On The Locking of Threads

Website Feedback

Hello all, this is on a problem. Namely, the locking of threads left right and center. Especially when they are killed prematurely on or before page 2, because of a few flagged posts, or cancelled mid-discussion, which is not very respectful of the discussion going on, and the non-trolls which are posting.

Of course, this is in response to, and a continuation of, the last thread. Which ended when the mods made their long posts, and then quickly locked the thread before there could be further replies.

I believe it is worth some discussion.

Careful. This thread might go "nuclear" and the whole forum will explode!

I do not have the bomb.

What was the last thread you saw that shouldn't have been locked kmal?

the l and 2 make an R (people always confuse my nick), but since you asked..without even taking any effort to dig, this one:

link

Instead of just saying to return to topic..or let a topic in the gaming section (which is basically gaming off topic anyway) just run its course, it was locked.

Read the forum rules. Especially the bit about not being a jerk.

Have to say I'm usually quite happy with the moderation on the forums and agree with locking the previous thread. It had run its course and wasn't generating anything more than finger pointing and arguing rather than meaningful discussion.

*edit* Also agree with what Kajehase said.

That is really strange. It seems to be taking a detour, and it got perma-locked.

I remember this one. It was good on page 2 and 3, covering quite an issue in gaming, when an observer comes to visit and acts up.

Telling someone to read the forum rules and going after them personally and accusing them of being a jerk. Gee, what type of person would do that?

Jerk is very subjective, and the claim it was going nuclear was a clear exaggeration.

I for one am baffled by that question.

And even if the thread does go off topic...its a forum..its inevitable. Calling a thread "hopelessly derailed" is beyond silly. As if everyone in the thread is in a bus heading one way and can't turn it around. All you have to do is tell people to get back on topic and the future posts should go back to being on topic.

Its not like the thread has to reverse course in a linear fashion and slowly change topics back toward where the conversation started from. It can abruptly go back to being on topic.

I wonder what the next thread will be called after we, The Flag Tyrants, will do our good work here.

I'm counting for "On the nature of a Man" or "On origins of species".

Can you post a link to a thread which was locked for that reason? (Hint: no).

Surely you mean "On the Origin of Species".

Don't call me Shirley, that's not my name.

If a thread dies young, only a few posts have actually been made.

So no then.

Why keep pretending something is happening when it isn't? That hardly makes your arguments persuasive.

"BEEP!"

"This thread is reversing."

"BEEP!"
"This thread is reversing."

"Hey, why don't I just take a step to the left? Oh, yeah, aaaand we're back in OnTopic Land."

You want the quick and nasty win don't you? An answer now or I am wrong eh? This isn't about quick wins, it is about an on-going problem. As with the last thread, time will make it only more relevant, not less-so.

Now I've checked my post history, since I came across an early shut down recently, but it isn't in my post history since it was dead before I got there (NOOOOOO! I couldn't save it). Making it difficult to give you the link.

They are about, I have seen them, they will be found. Not right now though, I am doing other things buddy. So the closing message is, all in good time Steve, all in good time.

Now, should anyone want to share info on locked threads, and past occurrences, griefs and beefs, this is the place for it. I will be posting when I have more (and some free time).

Have a great weekend everyone.

How about we show some respect to the moderators and actually follow their suggestion to let things rest until they've made a decision?

And if you have a problem with doing that, well:

Ahh, the old leave or cease your criticism choices. This is becoming more familiar every day. It is like a reflex.

Lot of choice there. Hmm. I choose option 3.

Once threads go off topic, only Keanu Reeves can save us all and get the thread back on topic.

Why do we need the mods? Because they are the hero that the forum deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll criticize them...because they can take it...because they are not a hero...they are a silent guardian, a watchful protector...the Dark Knight.

Uh oh. This thread is going slightly off topic. And minor insults were made. Where are the mods? Without them here 24/7 the forums will descend into anarchy! SAVE US!

What I really hate is now that they locked the Locking of Threads thread we can't discuss the locking of threads anymore. Oh why must you stifle debate, Paizo!?

Is that the "Call Trevor's Mom, tell her he's acting up on Internets again" option? If yes, I may actually shell out for a long distance call to Australia, worth every money.
