Totally ignoring the Civil Rights era and drastic change the parties made then. Yes, up until ~1965 the Dixiecrats were the party of Segregation and the racist South was solidly Democratic. LBJ backing Civil Rights changed that. The white south went Republican almost overnight when Nixon's Southern Strategy capitalized on that. Some Dixiecrat politicians lost, some switched parties, a handful hung on and even changed.
In 1860 the Republicans were the non-Racist party. Even in the 50s it would be fair to say they were less so.
Along with a whole slew of the usual anti-welfare, anti-government nonsense, including only one brief passing mention of surveillance.
