Way of the Wicked Witch Advice

Advice

Ok, folks. I'm looking at a level 2 witch, for a Way of the Wicked game. Rest of the group so far is a dhampir anti pally and an aasimar barbarian (Titan mauler).

For me, I'm looking at either samsaran, elf, sylph, or tiefling as race. All alternate facials allowed. So, I have 200 gold to spend.

I've already got my rolls. Focus Int (18), Foible Str (8). Rest of stats are Dex 14, Con 14, Wis 13, Cha 13.

I also need help choosing on patron. Was almost thinking Deception, Insanity, or Trickery.

I like the Time Patron.

That gives you Haste and later Timestop.

It definitely is a nice one. I'm just not sure I'm totally sold on it for this game. Which of three I listed would be your vote, wraithstrike? And the same question for race?

Samsaran, but only if you take that trait that lets you get another arcane class's spells added to your spell list. It is called "Mystic Past Life (Su)".

Other than that I would go with Teifling if you can choose the type so you can be flexible with your ability scores. If not I would go with the slyph.

Deception*(overwhelming 1st choice for me), then trickery, then insanity.

Invisibility, Confusion, and Time Stop.

The samsaran alternate racial is allowed, but I am limited to one class to steal from. I have heard summoner is a good one to steal from. What class would you steal from?

Deception is the patron then. What would you suggest the 200g be spent on, as far as gear?

Shadow Lodge

If you can't go with Time, Deception is the next clear best choice. After that, witch patrons get trickier to choose from.

I know it limits you to one class. Well the bard or wizard list both work. It depends on what you want to do with your character. I think the wizard list will work well. The summoner does get some spells early though, but if you are going to live to later levels the wizard spells will be worth it.

Instead of locking yourself into a class right now I would look over the spells and then choose a class.

One of my recent characters was a bard, so definitely there are some good spells, but so does wizard. I think I'll definitely take a look and see.

Ok, so I've definitely decided to prepare for a long life in the game, so wizard will be the one I'm stealing from. From the looks of it, Deception is alot of misdirection, so that definitely makes it a good combination with the usual debuffing & cursing of witchery.
So, now I really need to figure out what to steal from wizard list, since I have a total of 6 spells to choose. I'm thinking something reflex save based.

You have 5 spells if you starting intelligence mod is a +5..

Witches don't get fireball so that might be a decent choice for a reflex based spell.

So, since my starting bonus is +5, I get 6.

But any other thoughts besides fireball?

I don't think you need to many reflex based spells. The witch already gets lightening bolt.

I would add Gate to the list, and Wish if the witch does not already have it.

Greater Teleport is also nice.

I like disintegrate but I am biased. It is better as a utility spell than as an attack spell however.

If you really want a higher level AoE then Horrid wilting is not bad, and it does not use reflex saves, so evasion wont save any bad guys.

It also does not have to deal with the defenses an outsider has against energy types.

Look at Maze also. Many use it as an offensive spell, but if you are about to die you can cast it on your self, and just don't try to get out until you heal/buff yourself.

If you're not going with the Time patron, Haste is a nice one as well.
