shield and sword

Advice

Sorry for english

For a Kingmaker game. Currently level 3, but I can make change to my character.

I'm the fighter. I want to play the shield and sword fight.

I've choose longsword and light shield. feat: 2 weapon fight, shield bash, power attk, weapon focus sword and step up.

With shield bash and shield mastery coming up, i'm thinking swithching to the large shield, with the short sword. Make the shield the primary weapon, invest money for a good shield with the bashing ability, and with shield mastery feat, use the bonus to ac for attk and damage.
Maybe add a defense short sword.

I realy want to use the shield each round for bashing and bull rushing with shield bash at level 6.

Is it viable?? Can I combine this with the archetype for 2 weapon fighter?

I want to go the step up and lung feat too realy control de battle field. The other player (sorcerer, druid and inquisitor) are built for damage.

Should I rethink my build?

With weapon training, and especially later with shield mastery, you'll probably just want to dual wield shields. If this is too conceptually weird for you, main hand heavy shield with short sword off hand works too. If you take the close weapon group you might just try to stick to weapons off that list.

Summary: what you are doing will work. It is a more popular way to do fighting with a shield. Carry on and have fun with it.

Yes you could go the 2 Weapon Fighting Archtype it does not specify anything based on specific weapons and you are using Shields as weapons...

I am just not sure its worth giving up Weapon mastery

I built this build a while back and it is a good build. U can easily sub out the Sunder feats by the way for the bullrush feats if that is what u desire.

Human
Fighter (Weapon Master Scimitar)

-Stats-
STR 14 (+4 Leveling)(+6 Magic item)
DEX 17 (+2 Racial)(+1 Leveling)
CON 11
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA 07

-Feats-
01 Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Shield Bash, Weapon Focus Scimitar
02 Combat Expertise
03 Power Attack
04 Weapon Specialization Scimitar
05 Improved Sunder
06 Greater Sunder
07 Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
08 Improved Critical
09 Critical Focus
10 Shield Slam
11 Shield Master
12 Bashing Finish
13 Greater Two-Weapon Fighting
14 Sundering Strike
15 Tiring Critical
16 Exhausting Critical
17 Sickening Critical
18 Critical Mastery
19 Greater Weapon Focus Scimitar
20 Greater Weapon Specialization Scimitar

-Method-
Use a Heavy Spiked Shield enchanted with +4 for defense and enchanted with Bashing, Holy, and Speed for offense so when u are shield bashing ur shield counts as a +5 holy weapon that does 1d10+str that also does not take the two-weapon fighting penalty and keeping shield bonus to AC. When ever u score a crit with ur Scimitar, on a 15-20 dice roll, u get a free shield bash and sunder while also giving the target the Exhausted and Sickened condition. Scimitar should also be enchanted with Speed to give u 5 attempts to get a free shield bash on those crits. If ur lucky u can get 14 attacks in a single round.

Great idea, tks.

I steal some of your Psion. But I dont want to go the critical line feat. I'll stick with step up and lung, trading damage for control. I will probably invest some feat for my AC, too play more the tank role than the DPR one. The other player already fill this niche.
