Why no printer friendly PDFs?

Website Feedback

Every time I print out something from a Paizo pdf it uses a lot of ink. Why not start including printer friendly pdf's?

Shot in the dark here- myself not being an employee of Paizo or anything- but.. maybe they want you to buy the books :)

Time and effort in laying out the same product twice.

Do you want them to delete all the pictures and leave blank spaces instead?

Do you want just blocks of text in single columns?

What exactly constitutes a 'printer-friendly' PDF for you that you cannot get by choosing the black and white option on your printer?

Even if you print in black and white there is still the border on every page that uses a lot of ink either way. Backgrounds also use up more ink. Many other publishers include printer friendly pdf's with the download. btw I do get the books. It is just nice to be able to print out a page sometimes.

I though that's why there were the "PDF Lite" versions of the books; that's what I use on my tablet, and for printing out pages.

Printer friendly to me, especially related to roleplaying game PDFs means effectively shutting off a) background textures, b) top, bottom, and edge dressing, and c) photos. Since these are produced in InDesign (unless I'm mistaken), shutting off these layers doesn't necessarily sound that difficult, but it is moderately time consuming to ensure each page displays as correct as possible. I would love something like this, especially to print out sections of AP's.

While i would let in the pictures, an option to blend out the background stuff for printing, especially with smaller booklets like the PFS scenarios amd similar stuff would be nice. That really eats a lot of color. It looks great though^^

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Our production process at the moment does not currently have time allotment for an additional PDF option beyond our Lite PDFs for hardcover releases. This may be something we evaluate later, however.

I second the OP in my desire to see printer friend PDFs. No background textures, edge dressing or art.

I would also love this. I suspect the people at work at wondering where all the ink is going. I use my own paper, but I'm sure at some point they're gonna start asking questions.

I'd love a printer friendly option. Mainly I want it for Pathfinder Society mods. I've found that for me the best way to run the mods is to print them out single sided. I'd choose to not print any of the images and then go back and only print the images I absolutely needed.

The PFS mods do not come pre-printed.
