So I have found the chart to buy always available magic items, and the chart that lists how much gold I can spend on any particular magic item at a time according to fame.
I can't seem to find the chart that shows which magic items I can buy via faction, even though I've read that such a chart exists and even thought I saw it when going through various threads at one point in time, but I can't find it again.
Also, other than the always available magic items, and those found during sessions, are the faction magic items the only other magic items you can buy?
What else is available to buy other than always available and faction magic items?

I have the guide to organized play.
There isn't a separate faction list for magic items in there though, just the list of what cost of magic items you can buy via fame.
So does this mean if I have 45 fame, which allows me to purchase magic items up to 41,000 gp, then I can crack open the Core book and buy a Belt of Physical Might +4 (which costs 40,000gp) at any time?
Or just when I finish a session and a GM can sign off on it it?
Or is there some other Faction list of Magic Items that I am only allowed to buy magic items off of? If so, I can't find this specific list.

Fame purchase and faction purpose are the same thing by different names.
Yes, you're locked into either always available, fame, or chronicle sheet.
Other always available things include mundane gear, alchemical items, and animals size large and smaller.
Ok, so just to be clear, you can purchase any magic item as long you have the fame and gold for it? It doesn't have to be listed on a previous chronicle sheet?
I had always thought you were not only limited by your fame level, but you needed to have picked it up as an option to buy on previous scenario (i.e. on your chronicle sheet).
For example, on a couple of scenarios, I've had the option to buy Cure Moderate Wounds potions as part of my reward. Until then, I had thought I could not buy CMW potions until it showed up on my chronicle sheet, but that's not the case? I could buy them at anytime, as long as I had the fame for it?

Any time you have the cash, a DM is present, and your character is standing in a settlement large enough to have a pathfinder representative. It can be at the start, end, or sometimes during the adventure, provided you're not say, in the middle of the mawangi expanse.

Its the same list. So if your fame is 45 the list is every single pfs legal magic item 41,000 gold peices and down including your belt of physical might.

After rereading the Guide to Organized play, it seems pretty clear that you can only buy magic items from chronicle sheets, the always available list, and certain items presented to each faction.
Here is the quote from the book.
"Beyond the gear noted above, your character is restricted
to purchasing additional items from his accumulated
Chronicle sheets, or by capitalizing on his fame within
his faction. Weapons, armor, equipment, magic items and
so on that are outside of these lists are not available for
purchase at any time."
So this references this "Faction List" again, which I cannot find anywhere.
It's not in the Guide to Organized Play that I can find, nor is it in the Field Guide that I can find, both books I have open in front of me.

Yes. Chronicle sheets are 99.44% useless for buying things (but they're getting better)
I had always thought you were not only limited by your fame level, but you needed to have picked it up as an option to buy on previous scenario (i.e. on your chronicle sheet).
You have the option to do either, whichever method benefits you more.

Yup. And if you didn't have the fame for them before they showed up on a chronicle sheet something went reaaaaaly wrong.

Aegys,
What do you mean by "faction list?" The part about "capitalizing on his fame with his faction" means your fame needs to be a high enough level and the chart is in both the Guide to Organized Play as well as the Field Guide. I know it is at the beginning in the Field Guide, the first 5 pages or so.
BigNorseWolf, thanks!
I will let my friend know as well, he's been playing it incorrectly also.

By "Faction List" I mean I've heard reference on some forums of a list of magic items you are allowed to buy from your faction, and I thought that those were the only magic items you were allowed to buy outside of chronicle sheets and always available, but BigNorseWolf seems to have cleared that up for me.
I'd love to find a place where it clears this up in writing though, since I have a friend arguing with me that you can only buy items off Chronicle sheets and always available.

It would probably make more sense knowing the definition of fame in PFS. Fame is your overall standing within your faction. At certain points (the ones on the fame chart) you reach a good enough standing within your faction that they open their vaults to you or use contacts to obtain these magic items for you. That is what the fame chart represents. Does that help any?

If you are a lvl 1 that gets up tiered to a 4-5, like happened to me, i got 1400gp and 2 fame. 2 fame = 0 gp limit in factions. so i could buy a cure moderate wounds from the chron... hey wait, a cure moderate is on the always available isnt it.
ok, forget that it was a potion LOL. In theory, your lvl 1 with 0 fame could get lucky to complete a 4-5 sub tier (hard to do, the party avg level has to be really lucky), and maybe theres a cloak of resistance for 1000gp on it. i dont think cloak of resistance is on always available 9frankly i think its just +1 stuff, pots and scrolls and mundane, ya?)
new fame of 2 has a faction buy limit of... 0. cloak is not on always available 9 i dont think, bear with me). but you have the cloak on a chron and have the gold for it so congrats.
but yeah, that 99.44% useless chron stat isnt too far off. this is the 0.56%
or if the chron had a really weird item on it.

There are three charts - two are wrong, very confusing, since those two agree LOL.
- Faction Guide Appendix 1, p54 - WRONG for fame 0-8 (it is too generous to lvl 1s with 0 fame)
- PFS Field Guide p3 - also wrong, same as above, 0-8 fame too generous for those with 0 fame, lvl 1
CORRECT:
- Guide to Organized Play p26. You have to have 5 Fame to buy from Faction, although chrnicles and 'Always Available' both still valid options at lvl 1 0 fame.
Note, all three charts are identical once you hit Fame 9, so dont throw those books out LOL.
I got burned by this one.

Ahh, I bet that's where I had gotten the 'chronicle sheet only' information from on purchasing items, when I was pre-5 fame.
So I thought "chronicle only" just was the way it was supposed to always be.
My fame is now 11, so I believe I can purchase up to a 1500 GP magic item.

There is no faction-specific list. Your faction will sell you anything legal (in the CRB or Additional Resources book that you own) that you have the fame to purchase.

The lists you're thinking of was something that was around during Season Zero, but has since been removed and replaced with the generic Item Fame list. There are a couple of items such as the Shining Wayfinder that are exclusive purchases of the Silver Crusade that are mentioned in the faction guide, but otherwise, Faction Item Lists have gone the way of the Dodo.

I apologize for the necro. But to be honest, my question fits within this particular thread. Which has already answered another question I had after tonight's session. And do we really need ANOTHER one cropping up on this topic?
Anyway, just to confirm, if a Core Campaign character has a chronicle which lists something from Ultimate Equipment, Ultimate Magic, or another AR source you are allowed to buy that item? But only if you own a copy of the book mentioned on the chronicle as the source?

Correct.
