Multi-classing and archetypes / also, con bonus changes

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

i started to ask this in the rules forum, but was worried it was different for Sanctioned chars, so here I am:

- According to my research, you can choose multiple archetypes so long as they dont both alter the same original class trait. So if they both modify heavy armor proficiency, even if in different ways, thats illegal.

That would imply that, when gaining a level, my Inquisitor (exarch) could pick a new inquisitor archetype to throw into the mix so long as it didnt also modify:

Monster Lore; Detect Alignment; Bane; Second Judgment; Greater Bane; Third Judgment

(ie the stuff Exarch replaces)

Correct?

- When I gain a level, I can multiclass into a new class - that can be an archetype as well correct? (say Fighter[Archer] for example)

- in old school Dnd, if you gained a point in con that resulted in a new Con bonus, you got retroactive hp. meaning if your con bonus went from 0 to 1 when you gained 8th level, youd get 1 hp *per hit die* so 8hp not 1hp. I dont see anything like that but just wanted to confirm - a change in con bonus only changes future HP gains, not previous levels.

Assuming that is true, if my con bonus DROPS, i do not lose any hp at that time, its just deducted from future rolls, correct?

1) As long as the first ability being replaced by the new archetype has not been gained, you can add a new archetype to an existing character in PFS. (i.e. if the first thing changed was an ability gained at 3rd level inquisitor, then you could take an archetype for inquisitor up to the point in time you're leveling to 3rd) General rule in Pathfinder is the archetypes must be chosen when you first take a level in a class.

2) Correct, each new class you take for the first time can have a new archetype (or an additional one at later levels as long as you follow #1).

3) Stat increases are retroactive in Pathfinder. If you go from 0 to +1 in CON, you get an extra HP per HD. Same with skills and INT, etc.

So, since 3 was not true, yes you do lose HP if your CON bonus drops.

wow thanks! i now see the logic of why 99.99% have to be done at lvl 1 - the archtypes almost always modify something you get at lvl 1, thereby violating the rule of altering something you already got. it appears exarch/preacher (my goal) is a rare exception, because preacher doesnt modify anything until you hit lvl 3. So at lvl 2 i could technically add preacher. But not randomly at lvl 9, after i already had solo tactics. this makes sense, thanks! Im just gonna go ahead and pick up preacher at lvl 1, but im glad i see the logic now, thanks!

holy crap, you can lose skill points if your int drops??

Yes, but the only way your int would ever drop is if you took some kind of ability drain (not damage) and never fixed it.

(Ability damage in Pathfinder doesn't actually decrease your stats at all, just gives you negatives on rolls sing those stats)
