Supernatural Light vs Spell Darkness

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Divine Defenders get a special divine bond that has their armor shine like a torch. How does it work vs. Darkness and Deeper Darkness spells (which has rules for spells lower than the dark spell level in the spells).

Divine Bond (Su)

At 5th level, instead of forming a divine bond with her weapon or a mount, a divine defender can form a bond with her armor. As a standard action, a divine defender can enhance her armor by calling upon the aid of a celestial spirit. This bond lasts for 1 minute per paladin level. When called, the spirit causes the armor to shed light like a torch.

I'm wanting to say there's a rule somewhere for calculating an effective spell level if you need it, but I can't think where to look...

I actually asked about a similar effect a while ago (the Sun versatile channel) and there doesn't appear to be a relevant answer. It would be a useful thing to have, not just for Darkness but also for other effects (like Globe of Invulnerability) that rely on spell level. I propose the following FAQ question:

For purposes of effects such as magical Darkness or Globes of Invulnerability, how do you calculate the effective spell level of a Supernatural effect?

If you think this is a question worth answering, be so kind as to FAQ this question.

Sovereign Court

Well (Sp) abilities count as the highest level of spells you could cast at the time you acquire them. I'd probably use something similar to that with (Su) abilities, especially if they reference a spell.

Vrock: I've never seen that. Could you show me where you got it so I can reference that in the future?

It says it acts like a torch so I would treat it like a light spell with a caster level equal to the caster level of the magic armor. So said supernatural light would be negated just like all other light sources of same or lower spell level.

This is nothing new or specific to Divine Defenders. 30% of all magic weapons also give off light and in that case it specifically says it is as a light spell.

The rule of thumb is that the powers equivalent spell level is based on 1/2 the level at which you get them, FRU. I.e,. a power that you get at level 1 is equivalent to a 1st level spell, a power you get at level 3 is equivalent to a 2nd level spell and so on. But I think it is not spelled anywhere.
