Munchkin.

We already have too many munchkins playing this game as is;) Though a monster that acts like those kind of players would be...just as annoying.

I think they meant Munckins like the little annoying things that sing about being in the lollipop guild

A monster based on what they try to accomplish (but may have blatant weaknesses if min/maxed).

I would love to see some monsters inspired from FFX/X-2 and Phantasy Star IV.

PS IV? Specifically? Off the top of my head, outside of the tech stuff...

Grasshound/Locusta/Grass Assassin: A Large- to Huge-Sized Centauroid Preying Mantis-like creature. This would actually be kinda doable.

Fractal Ooze/Zol Slug -- I'm not sure on the name part, but two Slime variants where one could split into smaller oozes on it's own, and the other where a group of smaller oozes joined into one big one. They also had a ranged attack (like they all did in this game).

Ripper & Piercer/Hakenleft & Bladeright -- Medium Aberrations with a large blade and a Fire(Ripper/Bladeright) or Acid(Piercer/Hakenleft) ranged attack. The latter can combine into a Large monster called Twinarms. This one, I loved. I'd like to see a few combining monsters.

Stoneheads -- Looks like two dinosaur fossil skulls stuck together. Can attack with an extending tongue or a Fire/Ray attack. This comes across to me as being more like a Construct.

Dimensworm -- An Outsider/Aberration that hides in a hole in another dimension. This sounds like it could be annoying as hell to fight if it were extrapolated to RPG levels.

Igglanova & Xanafalgue -- A huge monster than steadily buds off smaller creatures. Very open to abuse by players, though.

Well SAMAS, you mentioned most of the creatures from PS IV that I would like to see but I also like those moles on the ice planet and those cute but strange birds with antennae.

Use androids, add the interplanar police flavor. I'm actually satisfied with the quantity and diversity of robots as presented in the Inner Sea Bestiary. Clockworks, golems, and other miscellaneous constructs help round out a very diverse set of mechanical creatures. Unless you're looking for an inevitable analog to aasimars and tieflings, which I could get behind.

From each mythology collected I want to see the following creatures in bestiary 5.

Starting with Greek and Norse mythology I work my way down to the leftovers.

***GREEK MYTHOLOGY***
Aerico = (Outsider/Demon) (CR 7 / 10) (Medium) (Chaotic Evil) (Disease demons that can take the form of a diseased cloud) (They are much like the Meazel from D&D in their natural forms, resembling horned demons with a terrible skin disease that hides its real skin.) (Likes to poison the water supplies of other creatures, making them suffer the same disease as they do.) (Aerico loves to eat diseased flesh only.)
Agrios = (Humanoid/Giant or maybe Lycanthrope) (CR 8 / 9) (Large or Huge) (Evil) (Giant and evil werebears the size of Ogres or maybe even Frost Giants) (Wears armor when transformed that also suits its werebear form making them also look like evil giant Otso.) (Many of them are born twins, most are black bears but there are also brown and polar bear versions known to exist.)
Alastor = (Undead) (CR 10 / 13) (Large) (Evil) (Based on the Greek Mythology vengeance demon, Castlevania uses the same name for a very different creature with the same behavior of vengeance) (These possessed giant swords started out as powerful warriors of vengeance and wrath, when killed these creatures bound their own souls to their powerful weapons, animating them with their own vengeful spirits, living on forever in their oversized weapons.) (Many of these living swords serve the Sinlord of Vengeance/Wrath.)
Antaeus = (Monstrous Humanoid/Giant/Troll/Elemental) (CR 12 / 14) (Large or Huge) (Neutral Evil) (One of the most horrid of Troll breeds, half earth elemental creature and half troll flesh.) (Can't be killed by any means while being in contact with the earth, must be lifted from the soil if you want to slay it forever.) (Has many magical abilities over earth and soil.)
Cacus = (Outsider/Elemental or Vermin) (CR 12 / 15) (Large or Huge) (Chaotic Evil) (Much like a Bebilith on fire these burning spider horrors have three horrid human-like faces and resemble mostly brightly colored tarantula's with ever burning fire surrounding them.) (While looking like dumb mindless creatures these horrors are extremely intelligent.) (They enjoy gathering other creatures around them and use them like a farmer would use cattle.)
Campe = (Dragon) (CR 15 / 17) (Huge) (Evil) (Horrid purple dragons, Campe are always female and enjoy guarding duty for more powerful creatures.) (Campe can transform themselves into beautiful females with long blonde hair and always dressed in purple clothes to give their male victims a false sense of security before they strike.) (Campe enjoy roleplaying with their victims, and it can take days or even years before they actually strike a victim, enjoying the victims horrifying reactions to their true forms.)
Chrysaor = (Monstrous Humanoid) (CR 8 / 11) (Medium or Large) (Chaotic Evil) (Probably the most ugly creatures alive, these red skinned boar-men have small bat-like wings on their backs that are much to small to actually fly with.) (Their favorite weapons are the burning whip and burning swords.) (Chrysaor hate pretty and cute creatures and always attack and murder them first.) (Chrysaor love power over other creatures such as Orcs and other such ugly creatures and are very cruel overlords when leading raiding parties with their slaves/toys.) (When their blood hits the ground it will turn into swarms of stinging scorpions or flies.) (When a Chrysaor is killed it's corrupted heart will mutate into a giant Scorpion creature that will burst from its decaying flesh and attacks anything it finds.) (Chrysaor themselves are born from the blood of Medusa's, they often act as bodyguards for their mother-creatures which show no love for their own brood.)
Dactyl = (Humanoid or Construct) (CR 4 / 8) (Small or Medium) (Lawful Evil) (Some evil dwarves and duergar got so obsessed with replacing their own bodyparts with those of iron or steel that they became constructs all together in the end.) (Dactyl are also known as Dwarf Golems, while there are still Dactyl left that still have fleshy parts or hearts and brains.) (Some Dactyl became insane in the progress and started to replace the flesh of other creatures as well against their wills, this alerted the Kytons which see great potentional in Dactyl.) (Dactyls are mostly offshoot in dwarf and duergar society, but sometimes they took over control and rule over them as cruel dictators) (Dwarf and Duergar cities ruled by Dactyl's are more dangerous as the Dactyl leader often forces cruel experiments on its own folk turning them into monsters of flesh and iron as well.) (Dactyls are always expert smiths and weapon/armor creators, many evil creatures use weapons created by Dactyls and their shields are legendary.)
Empusa = (Monstrous Humanoid) (CR 8 / 12) (Large) (Evil) (Hunters of male creatures, these centaur-like creatures have the upperbodies or demonic females with burning green hair and the lowerbody of a giant preying mantis, their arms and faces are also twisted in mantis-like parts.)
Eurynomos = (Outsider/Demodand) (CR 1 / 3) (Small) (Chaotic Evil) (Looking like small, zombie-like versions of the horrid Vrocks, these small creatures have black feathers and are covered in black tar-like substance.) (Eurynomos are often found in flocks devouring the corpses of demons like a ravenous pack of humanoid vultures.) (The most cruel of Demodands often keep flocks of Eurynomos in their lairs as they enjoy the company of these weaker creatures.)
Kallikantzaros = (Humanoid/Goblinoid) (CR 4 / 9) (Small) (Chaotic Evil) (The most cruel and probably one of the most powerful of goblin-breed, the strange Kallikantzaros look like hairless brown goblins with large and sharp fangs, goat-like legs and a Babau Demon-like horn on their heads.) (Every Kallikantzaros carries with it a magical axe weapon which they use to cut down magical plant creatures which they hate and eat.) (Kallikantzaros are often found in small groups laying waste to entire forests by cutting at their heart tree, they hate Dryads and other such fey creatures and attack them on sight.) (Every plant and fey creature or creature made from wood that is struck by their magical axes becomes sick and they start to wither away into nothingness, the axe is just a weak non-magical weapon to other creatures though.)
Laestrygon = (Monstrous Humanoid/Giant or Outsider/Giant) (CR 11 / 12) (Large or Huge) (Chaotic Evil) (These strange giants have much in common with the Astral Stalker from D&D, at least they look like a completely skinned red version.) (Laestryones are a cannibalistic giant breed that preys mostly on other giant species, especially good giants which fear Laestyrones beyond limit.) (Probably the most cruel of giants the Laestyrones love to flay their prey alive and often drag living flayed Hill and Wood Giants on chains behind them to express their cruelty to the world.) (Laestrygone are not natives of Golarion and probably found their way into Golarion through portals or were brought there by other creatures or demons.) (Laestrygon create huts, clothes and jewelry from the skin of their victims.)
Makhai = (Outsider/Daemon) (CR 9 / 14) (Medium or Large) (Neutral Evil) (Makhai are a breed of War Daemon that are created from the souls of war victims that received the fatal blow in their backs, giving them no chance to defend themselves.) (Makhai look like twisted humanoids with only one lowerbody but with three upperbodies of which each points in a different direction so that they can never be surpised from behind again. Each of the torso's carries a different weapon or shield.) (Makhai dance their way into battle and are often used as weapons of war by Purrodaemons.)
Nemean Lion = (Magical Beast) (CR 10 / 14) (Large) (Neutral) (Huge monstrous lions with skin that can't be penetrated by any weapon spare for its own magical claws.) (Nemean Lions are also known as Shield Lions or Siege Lions as their abilities prove usefull in war and many different creatures like to tame these creatures into weapons of war.) (The huge manes of these monstrous lions are often full of arrows and weapons that got stuck in it.)
Odontotyrannus = (Outsider) (CR 15 / 20) (Huge or Gargantuan) (Evil) (Much like a demonic version of the Tyrannosaurus Rex with a black/red tigerprint, but these infernal behemoths would make short work of a real Tyrannosaurus as they are more powerful and more intelligent.) (Much like Baregara, Xacarba and Bebilith these monsters appear to be demons but aren't.) (These colossal beasts make up the dinosaurs of the Abyss.) (Their fangs are really chaotic and every Odontotyrannus has a different set of fangs, it has multiple rows of teeth in its huge maw much like a shark and the fangs even grow out of its maw, it's entire back is also covered in fang-like growths.)
Planctae = (Outsider/Elemental) (CR 10 / 15) (Large, Huge or Gargantuan) (Chaotic Neutral) (These strange rock-like horrors are also known as Wandering Rocks.) (Planctae are always born as twins and make a sport out of crushing their prey between the two of them, feasting on the pulverized bloody remains of their victims that get stuck between their stone-like arms.) (If one of the two twins dies the one that is left alone twists and mutates into a very different creature known as Nargun.) (While the Planctae are humanoid land based creatures there are also aquatic and sea version of the Planctae known as Symplegades, these appear as twin Dunkleosteus creatures made entirely from living stone, they love to crush ships between their twin-linked rock bodies feeding on the morsels that fall into the water.)
Pyrausta = (Dragon) (CR 1 / 10) (Tiny, Small and Medium) (Neutral or Evil) (Half dragon and half insect, Pyrausta are also known as Vermin Dragons.) (Many different species of Pyrausta exist like Mantis, Wasp, Moth, Locust, Toe Biter, Bee, Spider, Walking Stick, Scorpion, Ant, Beetle and most commonly Dragonfly Pyrausta.) (Faerie Dragons are often thought to be the good alignment variant of Pyrausta.) (Pyrausta's behave much like the vermin-species they are based on while much more intelligent as they also have dragon intelligence.)
Teumessian Fox = (Magical Beast) (CR 4 / 9) (Medium or Large) (Neutral Evil) (Also known as Silver Fox or Quicksilver Fox these are large and swift foxes with a beautiful silver pelt.) (The Silver Foxes are so swift and agile they are rarely caught by their enemies this gave them a status as uncatchable.) (While they can be caught, only magic can help you with this as they have extreme evasive powers.) (Teumessian Foxes are faster than Pards.)
Vrykolakas = See one AP it is already in.

***NORSE MYTHOLOGY***
Berserker = (Humanoid) (CR 2 / 4) (Medium) (Any Neutral or Evil) (While they appear to be nothing more than Barbaric humans painted full with war tattoos, the Berserkers real form only appears when they become mad, then they turn into beastly creatures with huge fangs and feral burning eyes, their muscles also grow out of control when they become bloodlusted with rage.) (Their powers hide within their blood and tattoos.) (Many Berserkers end up as Einherjar when killed.)
Haugbui = (Undead) (CR 9) (Large) (Neutral Evil) (More powerful versions of the Draugr and often seen as their leaders, these ogre sized Draugr are much more powerful than their weaker kin.) (Haugbui have many powers over the weather, especially over hail and fog.)
Hraesvelgr = (Outsider/Giant) (CR 14 / 19) (Huge) (Evil) (While very deadly the Hraesvelgr look like beautiful winged giants covered with feathers instead of hair.) (All types of evil bird creatures are flying with them as their pets.) (Hraesvelgr are the favorite minions of Pazuzu.) (Hraesvelgr are probably mutated Cloud Giants or corrupted Storm Giants as they hold powers over the storms and winds.)
Nidhogg = (Dragon) (CR 20+) (Gargantuan) (Evil) (More powerful version of the Red Dragon)
Ratatoskr = (Magical Beast) (CR 1 / 5) (Tiny) (Evil) (While looking like cute little squirrels these are actually very nasty creatures that spread lies like poison.) (Their deadly, hypnotic lies are addicted like drugs and many Kingdoms have fallen because of the small creatures addictive lies corrupted the King and made him fall into paranoid madness.)
Yggdrasil = (Plant) (CR 19 or higher) (Gargantuan and bigger) (Chaotic Good) (These are ancient more powerful and much bigger version of the Treant.)

Hmmm if we're going to have Yggdrasil as a monster might i suggest turning it into a Kaiju. I think it deserves all four of these things that come with that: 1: Being REALLY big, 2: being functionally immortal, 3: being Mythic, 4: being unique.
Being the tree of life giving it cure, heal and resurrection spell-likes seems prudent.
Also possibly make it extraplanar.

Also I'd give nidhöggr more credit than being a bigger badder red dragon. I think as the tormentor of the souls of the dead he should have some related abilities, and be extraplanar as well.

I'm not really sure what to do with Nidhogg yet, that's why it got the weakest description of all creatures in this list.

In my own RPG they are the Red Dragons of my game, but because Pathfinder already has Red Dragons i'm not sure what to do with them yet.

I think I can agree with the Yggdrasil being Kaiju thing.

That would be great. I'm a chaos fan so could you do a protean angle on that as well

Not a bad list Gancanagh. I like your ideas. The conceptual Laestrygon and Hreasvelgr are particularly cool.

Dark Archive

I agree

Lol, I stole the idea from the Laestrygon from Michone from the Walking Dead, in which she does the same to her ex-lovers who turned into Zombies and which she leashed on chains to follow her.

In real mythology they were just normal giants who were cannibals because they ate humans?

Their name means something with skin, so I think it would be great to make them skinners of other creatures skin. They hate skin so much they even took away their own.

Ecorche is familiar I must agree, I pretty much put Laestrygone in my own RPG to cover up the role of Ecorche and Astral Stalker because they are both such awesome creatures that have no connection to any real-world myth too bad... + I wanted a giant-species that was very monstrous and not just a big human. Thanks to MM i've now also have the monstrous Yehwe Zogbanu or horned giant.

Dark Archive

Your Laestrygon are way better than the Ecorche... Paizo should hire you

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Don't be silly! :-p But thanks for the compliment anyway!

I forgot a Norse creature:

Fafnir = (Dragon) (CR 15 / 20) (Huge) (Neutral Evil) (Fafnir are said to be cursed creatures, they were first humanoid but their extreme greed for gold turned them into greedy dragon creatures with pure golden skin but with the curse also came a hunger for more gold.) (Because these creatures are born from a curse and because they can't reproduce there are actually only few Fafnir left.) (The first Fafnir was once a Dwarf, it is still alive and it is a truly ancient creature.) (Fafnir become encrazed when they see, smell or sense more gold, they go to great lengths to get their hands on the gold, human caravans carrying gold doesn't prove much of a challenge, but other dragons like Gorynych and Red Dragons can be fatal to a berserking Fafnir.)

Dark Archive

What about Fenrir?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I already use the Inuit Amarok which is also a huge wolf.

I never felt anything for Fenrir being a group of creatures, I like it as unique Amarok.

Fenrir = (Mythic Magical Beast or Outsider) (CR 29) (Gargantuan or Colossal) (Chaotic Evil I guess) (Fenrir is a Mythic wolf creature probably the first Amarok to have ever walk the earth.) (Many Gods and deities fear the Fenrir, even Demon Lords rather see the beast dead, too bad the creature is immortal and can't be killed by any known means.) (Fenrir is chained inside a immense cave with chains created by the crafty Dactyl, it is said some non-insane Dactyls are working together with the most crafty of cyclops to create a weapon that can finally lay the beast to rest.) (Amarok, Winter Wolves and other canine creatures hear the beast talk to them with telepathy and through these creatures the beast can act like it is free, giving them grizzly tasks.)

Dark Archive

As long as we have a big wolf I can call Fenrir

Well if I cover Unique creaturs I also can cover the following:

Jormungandr = (Mythic Dragon/Linnorm) (CR 30) (Colossal) (Chaotic Evil) (The biggest of all Linnorms the immense horror known as Jormungandr looks pretty much like an immense sea serpent version of the Linnorms.) (The creature is believed to be so long it can cross the entire ocean.) (Nobody knows where Jormungandr is at the moment, but most scholars believe the creature rests on the bottom of the ocean resembling an entire eco-system down there, when it is to wake up many species probably are driven to extinct.)

I like it. With the curse thing, maybe Fafnir should be a linnorm too. That could lead to a nasty curse power--you beat one and you turn into one in a couple of days unless someone casts wish.

Fenris makes me think they should have Eclipse Monsters as a type.

Silver Crusade

So let's go to Japan...

Abumi-guchi - (Magical Creature)(Tiny)(TN) A furry creature formed from the stirrup of a mounted military commander. They often form from the stirrup of a fallen commander, and wait for that man or woman to return so they can serve them. However, they can be taken as familiars by worthy people.

Abura-akago- (Undead)(Incorporeal)(NE or N) The ghost of a baby, has the habit of licking up oil from oil lamps.

Abura-sumashi -(Kami)(Small)(N) A stone person who's a guardian of mountain passes

That is also an awesome idea. Maybe I should turn Nidhogg into a Linnorm-type of creature as well, the Linnorm term suits all Norse Dragons.

+1. I always assumed he (she?) was the inspiration for the 2e corpse-tearer linnorm.

Maybe the Nidhogg could be the only winged Linnorm like evah :-p

I'm gonna read into the storylines on wiki again to see if I can come up with some cool Death Curses for the Nidhogg, Fafnir and Jormungandr. I like the Fafnir death-curse you came up with, but another possibility is maybe that the victor turns into a golden statue?

There is already a Linnorm with a similar curse and name (in Land of the Linnorm Kings).

I did not know that. Thank you.

Nemean Lion couldn't be harmed by any weapon including it's own claws and teeth but was strangled to death. This guy would have to have mythic ranks and whose hide becomes a magical cloak or hide armor. In fact they should have some very rare or unique monsters whose body or body parts become magic items. It make for an interesting treasure.

Yggdrasil would make an awesome plant based god. A god that bridges the gap between worlds/planets.

Nidhogg would make a great unique fire based linnorm. While wings would be interesting, linnorms don't need wings to fly.

Tuemessian Fox(N or CN) small magical beast CR7-9, speed 100+, constant freedom of movement, uncanny dodge(and improved), improved evasion and extra move action each round.

Ratatoskr sound interesting, there is a shortage of squirrel monsters.

Hercules used the Nemean Lions own claws to cut off the hide, otherwise no weapon could pierce it only its own claws, you can't kill it with its own claws but after you strangle it or kill it with choking magic gas you can use the claws to skin it to gain the hide.

Teumessian Fox is an evil creature in the myth, it is intelligent and also huge.

I like the Fox to be medium at least with a beautiful silver fur, as I find silver to be the color of speed and it just suits foxes.

Nidhogg in the myth mostly have wings and there aren't winged Linnorms yet, while they don't need them to fly maybe the Nidhogg could have some sharp wings to harm creatures with?

Use androids, add the interplanar police flavor. I'm actually satisfied with the quantity and diversity of robots as presented in the Inner Sea Bestiary. Clockworks, golems, and other miscellaneous constructs help round out a very diverse set of mechanical creatures. Unless you're looking for an inevitable analog to aasimars and tieflings, which I could get behind.
That would be great. I'm a chaos fan so could you do a protean angle on that as well

I'm running a Law vs. Chaos game right now and the lack of proteans and inevitables is making it rather difficult. One of my players will actually say, "of course another chaos beast" every time they encounter one. 0HD native outsiders for inevitables and proteans would help alot. Axiomites don't quite cut it. In general, I would like to see the other outsider groups expanded to even half the diversity of devils, daemons, and demons.

True, even if Nidhogg didn't need wings to fly, it could still use them to attack.

I feel your pain for the lack of LN and CN outsiders.

I wonder if the purple people eater is still copyrighted.

Anyone keeping track of the monsters in modules?

I glanced through the most recent one "Tears at Bitter Manor", and the bestiary at the back is pretty decent sized, and includes the Delgeth, Tizheruk, and Caliban, along with about 4 other new original monsters.

Still haven't seen the Alkenstar focused one, and Dragon's Demand had some good Dark Tapestry critters.

Yeah I noticed that Tears at Bitter Manor had several new monsters unlike the last two wich had like 2-3. This was a lot more then I was expecting.

We need Golarion Bestiary hardcovers.

It should be for a couple of decades to come.

It's time for some Engish-Fun!

Many types of Bogeyman in here! The English must really hate their own children to make up such a horrors!

Also many Fey.

If I forgot some truly amazing, unique and otherwise stand-out and original Celtic monsters in here please let me know!

***CELTIC MYTHOLOGY (English / Scottish / Irish / Manx)***
Afanc = (Magical Beast) (CR 4 / 7) (Medium or Large) (Evil) (With the creativity of the beaver and the agressivity of the alligator while looking a bit like both the Afanc is a strange horror.) (Extremely creative the Afanc are masters in creating horrible traps from the bones of their past victims.) (Afanc often block rivers and dams with the bones of their victims and the wood from treants they killed, heroes and villagers from dried out villages that go and search for the cause of the drought end up as the Afancs next victims.)
Arkan Sonney = (Fey) (CR 1 or lower) (Small) (Any Good) (Small little luck piggies which if you catch them will bring you magical luck for as long as you possess the Arkan Sonney.) (Arkan Sonney are extremely rare, but Baba Yaga is said to possess a few in her hut.) (Arkan Sonney's have little quills on their bodies, if you get stung by those you will have badluck the rest of your life, so catching them isn't without danger.)
Awd Goggie = (Fey/Bogeyman or Aberration) (CR 8 / 11) (Large or Huge) (Evil) (A bogeyman in the form of a huge horrid colorful caterpillar.) (Guardians of beautiful gardens and natural places where many food is found, the Awd Goggie eats everyone who plucks from the fruit that grows in its groves.) (While the fruit in a Goggies garden taste better than normal non-magical fruit, it also makes you slow and lazy, turning you into a easy prey for the slow monster.) (While they look like dumb brutes the Awd Goggie is actually a very intelligent creature, more intelligent than the average human.) (Nobody knows if the Awd Goggie can morph into a butterfly monster, some believe they can others believe they are born caterpillar and will never grow into butterflies.) (Of course a horrid monstrous butterfly monster is cool, so paizo can make up a Awd Goggie butterfly version as well!)
Bloody Bones = (Fey/Bogeyman) (CR 10 / 15) (Large) (Chaotic Evil) (A very powerful bogeyman breed, these crawling horrors are nasty on every frond.) (They look so horrid other creatures freeze in fear when they see a Bloody Bones drag itself over the floor leaving a vile trail of blood and puss.) (They look like skinned, bloody human monsters that have very long arms which they use dragging themselves on, they don't have a lower body as if they were cut in half, but their entrails are turned into monstrous tentacles and they drag them behind them, leaving a neverending supply of transforming blood, their faces are monstrous and skeletal with huge monstrous fangs.) (When somebody dies by the blood of the Bloody Bones they turn into Bloody Skeletons or Bloody Zombies, really vile creatures that die by the cursed blood will turn into new Bloody Bones, other creatures that are not evil and which see another creature turn into a Bloody Bones will be horrified for the rest of their lives as the transformation into a Bloody Bones is something that corrupts even an Angels mind.) (While Bloody Bones aren't picky in their victims they love nothing more than the bones of children.) (They often stalk their prey for weeks before they attack, many of them hide in cellars, sewers and even underneath the stairs of houses, every dark spot is good for them.)
Bocanach = (Undead or Fey or Magical Beast) (CR 4 / 5 or 6) (Large) (Evil) (Large horrid goat monsters that have this eerie green-or-blue fired lantern hanging around their necks.) (These goat-horrors are collectors of the souls of the dying, they can sense dying creatures from afar and will race to the spot to claim the creatures soul.) (They are also known to kill creatures to gain their souls.) (Fear will overwhelm another creature when a Bocanach draws near.) (If you kill a Bocanach its lantern will break and all the souls it claimed are free.) (Bocanach can use the souls inside its lantern for fueling its other magical abilities and to heal itself.)
Bodach = (Fey/Bogeyman) (CR 5 / 10) (Medium) (Evil) (Another bogeyman, Celtic mythology must really hate their own children!) (Not to be confused by the D&D Bodak, the Bodach look like old grumpy, monstrous men with huge grey beards they can animate and which they sometimes use to walk on like a spider-like horror.) (The Bodach really looks a bit like the old-man Jafar in the beginning of the Aladdin disney movie, with the same horrid teeth.) (Because they live in chimneys they are always covered in ash, giving them an even eerier look.) (Bodach feed on the breath of young children, sometimes killing them in the progress.) (They also love to eat burned flesh that turned to ash.) (If you hear sounds coming out of the chimney at night it must be a Bodach lurking there, there is no known means to banish them from your house and they often will follow a horrified family that moves to the next place, the only way to get rid of them is to kill them.)
Boobrie = (Magical Beast) (CR 8 / 12) (Huge or Gargantuan) (Neutral or Evil) (Enormous ibis-like birds with green feathers of all shades, the Boobrie is the Roc of the swamps.) (While they can fly, they don't see use in it, they just wade through the huge swamps they call home and eat alligators and other big creatures living there, of course humanoids taste best!) (Living in the same areas as the Catoblepas, the Boobrie often turns up in fights over kills with the big beasts, Boobries being larger, faster, more powerful and immune to the poison of the Catoblepas being victors in most cases.)
Brollachan = (Fey or Aberration) (CR 11 / 17) (Huge or bigger) (Evil) (Some believe the Brollachan to be an animated Phantasmal Killer spell.) (These dangerous mist horrors can appear to other creatures as their worst physical fear, some see their own children die in the mist, while others see horrid creatures or visions of their own death.) (In their natural form the Brollachan looks like sickly greenish fog that animates horrible screaming faces inside its mass all the time, the faces scream in pain and fear.)
Cat Sidhe = (Fey or Magical Beast) (CR 1 / 5) (Small) (Neutral or Evil) (Black cat witch/hag familiars with nine lives, bad-luck powers and extreme intelligence and sarcasm.) (Always found around witches and hags, some people believe the creatures to be transformed hags and witches, but this isn't true, they are just the favorite familiars for witches because they give them much information and even bonusses on their spellcasting and luck.) (A Cat Sidhe can give one of its lives to a dying creature, mostly the Hag or Witch it is the familiar from, but many Cat Sidhe have great symphathy for little girls and are known to sacrifice one of their lives to dying girls, people believe these girls will turn into witches when they age as nobody really trust the magic from a Cat Sidhe.)
Clurichaun = (Fey) (CR 2 / 6) (Small) (Neutral or Evil) (Nasty Leprechaun variants, the Clurichaun wears magenta or red clothes instead of green.) (While Leprechauns are all about luck, the tricky Clurichaun is more about the bad-luck.) (They are always drunk and grumpy and extreme greedy.) (They are covered in red four-leaf glovers.)
Cu Sith = (Fey or Magical Beast or Plant) (CR 7 / 9) (Large) (Evil or Neutral) (Also known as the plant dogs, these huge green dogs have vines, leaves and other plant material growing between their hairs.) (Cu Sith have many bizarre abilities over nature, their footsteps will spawn forth plants off all types but mostly small agressive vines, their drool will do the same, but the plants growing out of their drool are mostly Assassin Vine like creatures that entangle their prey or enemies so the Cu Sith can make short work of them.) (Their aura will animate plants and trees in the area, when the Cu Sith moves on again the plants will return to normal.) (Being bitten by the Cu Sith will make vines grow from the wounds, if not treated they will grow inside your body and will rip you appart from the inside out, creatures that die this way will spawn forth horrid plant monsters like Shamblers, Mandragora or even Viper Vines.) (Cu Sith will give plant creatures such as Treants, Viper Vines, Shamblers and Alraune's boosts in power, so many intelligent plant horrors love to have Cu Sith around and while being intelligent dogs the Cu Sith often enjoy guarding duties for powerful Alraune and evil Treants.) (On some full moon nights some Cu Sith gather in large groups and start to hunt with their Erlking master, these events are now known as the Wild Hunt.)
Dobhar-Chu = (Magical Beast) (CR 5 / 9) (Large) (Evil) (Huge, colorful otter monsters with cute puppy eyes but with humongous oversized jaws.) (Dobhar-Chu hate other otter creatures and kill them for sports while leaving the carcass to rot as they find their flesh unworthy of eating.) (The Dobhar-Chu is the fastest water creature known to exist, being the Quickling/Kamaitachi from the rivers and lakes.) (They lure other creatures close to the waters edge with their puppy-like eyes, then they leap out of the water with their huge maws much like a crocodile to suprise their prey.) (No other creature hates the Dobhar-Chu more than the Abaia, they often overfish the lakes the Abaia calls home and because they are so fast the Abaia can do little about it other than watch how their "children" are being eaten by the oversized otter horrors.) (Ahuizotl are known to enjoy the compagny of Dobhar-Chu, and half-breeds of the creatures are known to exist.)
Dunter = (Fey) (CR 10 / 15) (Small) (Alignment same as Redcap) (Redcaps that absorb more than a thousand fresh souls into their caps will turn into Dunters, even more vile than an army of Redcaps, these horrors become slayers of entire towns, fearing nothing but their cap being not fed with the blood of their many victims.)
Fear Gorta = (Plant or Fey) (CR 2 / 4) (Tiny or Small or Medium) (Neutral) (Dangerous patches of magical grass that force thoughts of extreme hunger into their prey so they start to eat their own flesh in progress and eventually killing them on the spot so the vile grass can feed on their corpse.) (Many evil Warlocks and Hags collect the Grass and use it as weapon or protection.) (Fear Gortra sucks away the lifeforce of all other plants in the area, making the beautiful green grass stand out in an otherwise eerie looking grey landscape.)
Fir Bolg = (Fey/Giant) (CR ??) (Large or Huge) (Any Good or Neutral) (I'm still figuring out what to do with them! If you have any cool thoughts please let me know!)
Gancanagh = (Fey) (CR 8) (Medium) (Neutral Evil) (Extremely beautiful male fey dressed in classy clothes and hats.) (Gancanagh are extremely narcistic and vain, they only care about themselves and all other creatures are toys to play with for them, they use them to make their own lives more confortable or just to have some fun with.) (Their skin creates a addictive poison that will turn every other intelligent creature that touches it into a slave-like admirer of the Gancanagh, doing everything the Gancanagh asks from them and attacking every other creature that is getting close to the Gancanagh they became addicted to.) (When Gancanagh become bored with their toys they banish them away to wither and die alone by suicide or a broken heart, because like a drug-addict that is denied it's drug the creature looses it's will to live and it loses what is left of its sanity.) (Gancanagh love roses and always carry them around, the only way to restore a creature that is addicted to a Gancanagh is by stinging them with the thorns of a rare black rose.)
Jack-in-Irons = (Fey/Giant or Outsider/Kyton if you being creative) (CR 10 / 15) (Large or Huge) (Evil) (Nasty giants covered in chains and the heads of its past victims stick to its belt.) (These giants are addicted to torture and hunting/stalking their next victims.) (Like some Kytons the Jack-in-Irons can animate their chains.) (Jack-in-Irons often terrorize their victims with eerie sounds of their chains rattling against other steel objects, giving their prey a sense of being followed and hunted.)
Lavellan = (Magical Beast or Aberration) (CR 11 / 16) (Small or Medium) (Evil or Neutral) (The most poisonous creatures alive, they look like monstrous rat creatures with sick fur and appearance.) (They feed on poison and other poisononous creatures making them even more poisonous.) (Water destroys the creatures poison so a Lavellan fears nothing more than water, water however can't restore a poisoned creature, the poison works too fast so drinking water is mostly too late.) (Because they even have a poisonous aura the best way to deal with Lavellan is shooting them with water spells or ranged attacks.) (When a Lavellan dies it will spoil a wide natural area into being corrupted wasteland for many years to come.) (Lavellan are so poisonous that they are even poisonous to creatures that are otherwise immune to poison.) (Nuckelavee are the only creatures that are immune to their poison and they often command the vile beasts around.)
Shellycoat = (Fey/Bogeyman) (CR 3 / 6) (Medium) (Chaotic Neutral or Neutral Evil) (These are beach or river bogeymen.) (They look like old hermits covered in exotic and bizarre shells they stole from all kinds of creatures.) (Shellycoat not only dress in shells they also use the shells for protective armor and as dangerous weapons, using only the most bizarre of shells as slashing weapons.) (Shellycoat love the flesh of young children but before they eat them they will steal the childs voice and store it in one of their many shells.) (Shellycoat always live inside a huge shell which they turned into a house, they live on beaches far away from civilization.)
Sianach = (Magical Beast) (CR 6 / 9) (Large) (Evil) (These look like horrid Elk or Megaloceros monsters that don't like to eat plants but rather feed on the flesh of humans that dare to hunt them.) (Sianach are the favorite mounts for Hags and evil witches and changelings.) (Hags often decorate the huge antlers of the Sianach with skulls, bones and other chants that give the creatures magical aura's, protections or even spells they can use in battle.) (Their eyes and hooves are burning with green magical fire.)
Water Leaper = See one AP it is already in.
Wizard's Shackle = (Vermin or Aberration) (CR 4 / 8) (Medium or Large) (Neutral or Evil) (Large leech-like horrors with ten burning blue eyes.) (Called Wizard's Shackle because they love to eat magical creatures and they block the ability for mages to cast their spells correct.) (Every spell cast becomes twisted and the Wizard Shackle is immune to all magic, they just absorb the magic and after absorbing more than they can store inside their horrid bodies they release a terrible magic nova attack that obliverates everything in a wide area, making them dangerous magical time bombs for magic-users that don't know what they are dealing with.)
Wulver = (Humanoid / Lycanthrope) (CR 1 / 3) (Medium) (Chaotic Good) (Good and gentle werewolves that hate and attack their evil kin on sight.) (While being very gentle creatures many people confuse them with their evil brothers and attack them, the Wulver would never harm the creatures that attack them and just flee.)

I've noticed that the bestiaries have a distinct lack of moths. I mean actual vermin moths, not just magical beasts or outsiders resembling them.

And because the Phooka turned out to be a bunny girl.

Puca = (Magical Beast or Fey) (CR 8) (Large) (Neutral or any Evil) (Beautiful black horses with silver manes and hooves) (Loved by evil and neutral fey as mounts, the Puca enjoy nothing more than being riden by royal fey.) (Puca can fly even though they lack pegasus wings.) (Puca dislike the sun and disappear during daytime to an unknown location only to reappear again during the first lightrays of the moon, for this reason they are also known as Moon Horses.) (Some people believe the Puca will teleport to the moon during the daytime, others believe they just become invisible as only the moonlight can reveal them.) (Their manes are beautiful and pointing upward like its full of holding gel.)

And because I dislike the Kelpie from pathfinder:

Each-uisge = (Fey) (CR 10) (Large) (Evil) (Each-Uisge are evolved Kelpies and are much more powerful than the normal kelpie.) (Each-uisge can shapeshift into the most beautiful of horses to attract female or male riders on their backs, then they jump from a cliff and feast on the remains of their rider in the water.) (Their true form is that of a green horse with kelp-like manes and tail.) (Each-uisge often control the lake they live in and have many Kelpie slaves to serve them, everything a Kelpie catches must be delivered to the Each-Uisge.)

Dark Archive

each-usige ftw (v kelpies only I don't like them either)

Cat Sidhe is already an alternative name for the Silvanshee

Silvanshee is a good/gentle creature... doesn't suit the witchcat from folklore at all

From the Arcadian thread.

American Horror Story Asylum Spoilers:
Never got to finish American Horror Story Season 2, but apparently, these guys are concept art for the grays that were in the show. I think they look suitably alien and cool.

I would think that would be it's nick name until the real Cat Sidhe gets stats.

I would prefer more traditional looking greys as apposed to those guys who look way to close to the aliens from independence day.

That's fair. Though I got more of a Cloverfield meets Greys feel from them.

I like those grays models. Grays are the only SF based creatures I would like to see in bestiary 5. They got this cool vibe around them that suit with every theme.

So between the Technology Guide and People of the Stars books coming out, I'd really love to see creatures similar to the Xenomorph aliens and the Predator aliens. In particular, the Xenomorphs' design is so evocative of fear and, well, alien physiology while still having a resemblance to something familiar. To me, that's the essence of horror. And there are few that can really capture what Giger did. Although I'll admit, the Nightmare Ettercap in the Bestiary 4 came close :)
