One concern I have is someone could stealth into your PvE comabt to intentionally get hit by your AoE so they could kill you without consequence.
The response to that is, "Don't AoE if you aren't sure whether there are people you don't want to hit in the AoE." AoE's will be used sparingly in this game compared to others, and stealthing that close without being detectable requires a lot of training time. In addition, the stealther would likely aggro the PvE monsters to attacking himself if he got close enough to be inside the mob, so he'd have to wait until the AoEr has aggro and then stealth inside the mob, while also remaining far away enough that the AoEr can't see him. It just seems like a scenario that is very unlikely to come up often in practice.

Still wonder if casters will trigger Friendly fire/Attacker flags with spells they cast that do not do any physical damage ..
Grease, color spray, haste, slow, even sleep..
I don't see any reason that using non-damaging hostile AoE's would be treated differently than damaging hostile AoE's. It would be incredibly stupid if someone could spam CC's on me without becoming hostile.
Haste seems to be the exception in your examples, as that is not a hostile AoE, so I wouldn't expect it to trigger an Attacker flag.

Thanks ryan,
I didn't mean the spells itself, but rather the damage. I should have been more clear. I was referring to the blog articles which discuss AoEs, specifically the part where a number of consecutive hits by an AoE will build up resistance to the damage, much like resistance to CC effects.
Since I usually play solo, I don't really experience the giant swarms of AoEs anyway, so obviously my opinion is skewed on the amount used.

I agree some spells should and some spells shouldn’t cause FF agro, color spray, grease both have negative effects and should. These are easy as they have an effect on the character even it if it is not physical damage it affects an area and is easy to determine if a character is in that specified area.
Slow is suppose to hit enemies no more than 30’ apart.. it’s the wording of enemy and ally that I guess I’m wanting to know more about. Ill add 2 more cleric spells, Bane Vs Bless as well as haste vs slow. One gives allies within 30 feet a bonus, the other gives enemies within 30 feet a penalty.
My question is how will we be able to use those spells? Will they be included at all? Do you define ally as anything not actively hostile to you and enemy as anyone with a hostile/attacker flag? Just trying to get an idea as to how casters will interact with everyone around them with spells like buffs or debuffs not just physical damage. What will cause friendly fire, who will be able to receive the buffs I put into AoEs etc..
