Magekiller Rogue

Advice

Sovereign Court

Hey guys, here's a thought experiment: how would you design a Rogue to disable and take out a high-level (10+) spellcaster? Assume the rogue is sneaky enough to get the drop on the caster; how would you take him out without getting leveled by a Dominate Person/Baleful Polymorph/etc., or losing him once he goes invisible and flies away?

Called shot + sneak attack seems like a good combo

Make the Rogue higher level. Give him a number of levels more than the spellcaster equal to the highest level spell that spellcaster can cast.

AND give him the drop on the caster.

Well, assuming this rogue can multiclass, make him an assassin. Bump up the save DC for death attack as high as possible. It is a Fort save, which tends to run pretty low for arcane spellcasters (divine spellcasters are going to be more likely to resist).

Alternatively, take the Sap-feats and try to knock him out with nonlethal damage. If successful, perform a coup de grace.

= Dead Spellcaster

Also, make sure to grab a Ring of Spellturning when you reach sufficient level to afford one.

Don't.

The only real "mage killer" has always been another mage with a counter to what he will pull.

Paladin is the best non-mage at it, and even then it's not really that great at it.

Use Wait-for-the-enemy-to-fall-asleep-no-jutsu. With a scythe. And power attack.
