Can this build work without being overly dependent on magical items? I know that monk/assassin stretches the stats out pretty thin, and that drow doesn't help that any except with dex.
Can it be a decent combo, able to function inside a party and not be a drain on resources, or not able to pull its own weight? The concept I have is of a monastery of drow live dangerously close to the surface, and practice the deadly arts of killing. It's their life, their doctrine. They spend almost all of the day honing their martial skills, and practicing their methods of murder. And for a price, they will take contracts.
I made this character out to level 10, and with no magic items, her AC was only 19. Do you guys have any ideas?
I was using 20 point buy, standard WBL.

I'll post it when I get home. I think my main question is what feats and what traits to take in order to keep it from having to rely a magic items to be workable. Also I'm trying to figure out which way to set up my stats so that I'm not min maxed but I also have the correct stats where they need to be. I considered ninja, but I think I like the monk levels better for the roleplaying side of it.

Honestly, monk because of the role play of the character. I want her to be martial, but mystical, and all of the monk fluff. I just don't want my character to be a total brick because of its stats being spread to thin. Of course, if it ends up being not feasible, I'll have to compromise with another class combo. I am just curious too see what you guys with more PF experience than me can come up with. I did build a monk/assassin a long time ago, in 3.0 I think, but it had more compatible racial stats. I just don't remember what race it was...

See if your GM would be open to these alternate rules. :)
Outside that, getting ascetic flavor to work with just the official rules is really tough.

By Assassin do you mean the Assassin class? If yes, the normal Assassin or the Red Mantis Assassin? Why aren't you going ninja, which seems to offer both the martial and mystical sides you are going for?
Monks make fairly awesome Assassins by themselves, by the way. Either solo or with buff support. They lack an instant-kill ability, but eh.
Anyways, assuming you mean the class, don't take more than 4 levels of Monk. Your other level should be in Fighter or Ranger.

The concept I had for the character was the essential monk, fast movement, unarmored, kick-grappling things to death, and flinging poisoned shuriken around with flurry of blows. I haven't had a chance to post the build up yet , I've been very busy with work.
A drow ranger would be great too. Just take two weapon fighting, home brew the oversized two weapon fighting feat from 3.5, and grab some scimitars.... Sounds original, right?
(I'm kidding. Really.)
Now, here's a curveball. What if i drop the martial idea all together and run a class I have NEVER run before? A drow mystic thurge sounds like it could be awesome. Take a domain that gives sneaky powers and combine that with poison use, and i may even be able to pull off assassinations anyway. Thoughts?

Actually, the Unarmed/Brawler Fighter can be both Martial, and mystical.
The Nightmare Fist, and Moonlight Stalker feats will help fill this role.
You mistake that a class name defines you.
This is not true.
This, with the fighter class, may very well be the best way to go for the martial idea. How would I get access to a decent amount of skills though? traits?
