Encounters look good

Hi everyone.

I just finished my final grades for the top 8. I have to say, some real good stuff.

I think you guys will be interested. THREE people picked the same monster and I bet you will be surprised. It actually proved to be an interesting lesson: A good designer doesn't outsmart himself or herself. Instead of waving your hands to show me you are doing something interesting and cool, just go ahead and do something interesting and cool and I will see it for what it is. I think a couple people outsmarted themselves this round. It's easy to do.

There is a lot to be learned about design from the submissions. I'm sure you all will enjoy reading them and learning from them.

This has been a good year of Superstar and this round doesn't disappoint. I found 3 really great submissions. Three that I felt didn't make the grade. Two were on the bubble for me and the one that got the nod I felt clearly was in the top group. I'll be interested to see how the voting shakes out.

Good luck to all the contestants.

I've said before that I couldn't win this contest so all of you have a lot to be proud of. Great work everyone and to all the voters, get out there and vote for your favorites.

Is it 2 PM in Seattle yet....no?...dang.

Actually, Sean ruined that surprise (to his credit, we were clamoring for spoilers).

Interesting words as always, Clark. I'm looking forward to the reveal!

I'm going to try very hard not to compare the three "same monster" encounters with each other.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's hard not to compare them. In 2011 three of the Top 8 used my villain in their round 4. Two of them came up with fairly similar encounters and hit the same snags along the way.

It'll be interesting to see how RPG Superstar: Battle Egelsee pans out!

Yeah, rereading what I posted, I realize I misspoke. I'm going to try very hard not to pick an Egelsee "winner" and three others. :)

I am hopeful the three encounters will be different enough from each other. Maybe naively so...

Well, the Egelsee does have more potential for variety than some of them, so maybe people went different ways.

I'll be super interested to read these. I've not done much other than some home campaign encounters and I always felt it was a lacking area for me.

Hard round. After a quick read of all 8 (will definitely re-read closely before voting), my initial impressions are the my favorites from previous rounds are not my favorites this round.

That will make for some difficult decisions.

After a quick look, I can see 5 entries that I could vote for.
