Looking for traits / feats / mechanics for fleshing out a sadomasochistic vitalist (partial healer / lifestealer)

Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of designing a sadomasochistic vitalist (taking the soulthief method and sadist archetype), and I feel like having some kind of DR vs non-lethal (aka DR/lethal) would suit the character.

Are there any pre-existing traits, feats, or other mechanics that would fit this feeling?

Also, if there isn't, I'd like to know about designing a custom trait that gives DR/lethal. (I know I'm sort of crossing forums here, but it feels silly to split it into two threads.) Does DR 2/lethal seem like a good value for a custom trait, or should it be increased/decreased? Would something like DR 1/lethal per CL be too much?

Also, in case anyone is wondering, I don't believe that this would give me any mechanical advantage. Further, I don't believe that the non-lethal damage taken from using Transfer Wounds would be reduced by any sort of DR, including this DR. The trait is purely for fleshing out the character.

Look into stuff reguarding the god Zon-Kuthon. There's traits and feats for his worshipers that should be in line with your plan.

Thanks for the guidance. Looking at what would fit a caster in Zon-Kuthon-based abilities just reveals causing bleeding and resisting dying from ongoing bleeding/conditions. That seems more on the sadist side (which I think I have covered) than the masochist side.

Thank you for the suggestion, though. I might see about getting the Endure Pain feat, which for some reason came up when I searched for Zon-Kuthon.

EDIT: To expand on this, I'm not against gaining regular DR (of course), but I don't see a good way to obtain it other than class features and items. If anyone has any suggestions on that, I would appreciate it.

Buy a whip. Hit your self at the beginning of each day, which means you'll have some no-lethal damage.

Not only does it fit, but it means you fall unconscious at 3 HP, and are therefore always stable.

Grand Lodge

Psionics are third party.

This is the wrong forum.

This is only true if a hit would take me to 0-3 hit points. Anything more than that is still dying. Interesting idea for low-level, though.

Fine. I'm making a sadomasochistic cleric. Are there options as I specified above?

The class itself is inconsequential. I'm not discussing the mechanics of the psionic class, but rather what can be taken to flesh out the masochistic portion of the character's attitude.

Grand Lodge

Pain Taster Prestige Class.

Endure Pain and Welcome Pain feats.

Suicidal trait.

Blood Money spell.

I also recommend going Oracle instead of Cleric. The Consumed Curse is fitting. Battle Mystery will settle well.

Going Oracle, I suggest taking the Eldritch Heritage feats for the Martyred Bloodline.

The thread has been moved. The best way to bring this sort of thing to the attention of the Paizo staff is to flag the first post as 'Thread is in wrong forum'. Posting 'this is in the wrong forum' does not automatically get staff attention, and is confusing once the thread is moved.

It seems that you have exactly what I was looking for. =)

Pain Taster is good, but the BAB +6 requirement makes it very late to get into for a 1/2 BAB, and a little late for a 3/4 BAB.

Endure Pain and Welcome Pain fit, so I'll evaluate if they're workable for whichever build I finally settle on.

Suicidal sort of fits, but I'm thinking that I'd go human for the extra feat instead of tiefling.

Blood Money is good, if I choose a class that can learn it.

The Consumed curse is a good choice as well, if I go with Oracle.

The Martyred Bloodline is fantastic, and fits very well with any class that I end up picking. Not sure yet if I want to take the Skill Focus feat tax, though.
