Did D6 inspired some of the d20 mechanics like DC or vice versa? the chart on page 53 of the D6 Fantasy book looks too familiar!

It's safe to say that a variety of systems inspired the D20/OGL system. The save mechanics are very similar to Runequest, if I'm remembering correctly, while the STAT + SKILL + D(X) vs DC mechanic is found in a goodly number of other systems (Interlock and Fuzion, to name one and a half).

I have to say, though, if they were going to be inspired by so many different systems, they could have gotten rid of fire-and-forget magics. ;)

Really, how much different from any mechanic in roleplaying systems is the DC? Even THAC0 is really just rolling against a target number. You just flip the math in that case.

In the end, we're all just adding one thing to another thing, and then adding or subtracting a like number from a die roll.

Anything beyond an old fashioned 4+ or 7+ test roll is all pretty intuitive, really. Most of this stuff writes (and re-writes) itself, no borrowing necessary.

Well, iirc, no one called the D6 system that until fairly recently (post 3.x D20). A system of skill check values and difficulty has been used in numerous games before and since this one. The first I remember was in the old Traveller Digest magazine which developed a systematic approach to skill difficulty and numbers required to achieve them. They had names like "Average", "Difficult" etc. as well. That was formalized in the Megatraveller rules which were built on top of Traveller... so early 1980s... not sure of the exact year.
