I wanted to avoid the stereotype of hive mentality equals hive mind.

Olaf Stapledon (one of the really early authors who wrote back when antediluvian was still a catch word to use in speculative fiction), conceived a tier system for the Fifth and Eighteenth Men. Where each person maintained their own individuality, but would also put time in the communal mind. (kind of like reporting for Jury duty, save wholly voluntarily) in "First and Last Men".

Word to the wise though, if anyone decides to read the book, I would strongly advise skipping the first four chapters on the first reading and just go straight to the Fall of the First Men. Stapledon wrote when there was a lot of justified bad feeling against America when the latter had snubbed the League of Nations and that comes out in those chapters rather strongly and may unfairly prejudice one from reading the real meat of the book.

I like Toaster!

And I will look into that LazarX, sounds interesting.

well other than the dreg being super obvious Aberrations i would like a better idea of their abilities and appearance.

Will be glad to share later, but I have class in ten.

Alright, let's examine what makes for an average Dreg.

First, what I imagined for attributes: +2 Int, +2 Con, -2 Wis

Next: Wild Talent. Dregs culture rarely dabbles in magic, besides alchemy, yet psionics is prevalent in the society. They need to be natually psionic.

Despite being fish, my vision sees them as poor swimmers. They built their cities on the bottom of oceanic trenches, only recently moving inland to construct cities half on the shore. So I was thinking that maybe they have Slow and Steady to show how they would trudge across the bottom of the ocean in full plate to wage war on one another.

Also maybe an ability to use Int in place for heal as they treat anatomy with cold logic in place of eased practice.

Wait this setting is using Psionics?

I put them in every game I play. I hate to admit I am a bit of a kitchen sinker. But I bought the damn Psionic books- I am going to use them. Plus I love mental abilities!

I might PM you some questions on how the Psionic System Works...

What Psionic Books do you use?

I normally use all Paizo Sources... & I normally modify the Classes.

I have a setting where knowledge is so easy to obtain that every class gets +2 to its base Skill Points per Level and the Minimum Skill Ranks possible is 2 Skill Points.

Psionics might be nice... Though I would prefer them to follow something similar to the Spell Slot System as that would make it a bit more even and allow an easier meshing of Psionics, Mages, & my Modular Spell Slot System.

I use Dreamscarred Presses's Psionic-Point System. Though I do also have a psychic class [which uses spells with and interesting cast system] from the Tome of the Bizarre and my own homebrew Psychic which is a 'psion warlock' and is mostly inspired as a direct pull over from the 2nd Edition Psioniscist. I hate using spell slots for psionics because then it's just another type of magic. I hate that. I aslo use Pact magic, updated incarnum, riven magic, ki, spell weaving, and a homebrew take on the Force call Focus/Will.

Nice.

What is Dreamscarred Presses's book called?

Psionics Unleashed and so on. Really never heard of it? Besides the Core Paizo stuff I thought everyone made that a priority on the core books needed. It IS the Pathfinder Psionic system!

Meh, I tend more towards Traditional Fantasy rather than Psionic Fantasy. Is it covered on a Site like the d20pfsrd?

i wonder how much RP wildtalent should be? oh by the way i apologize for my late post, i had to work 12 hours today.

Wait there are other Psionic Books in the Psionics Unleashed series?

And isn't it a Feat they get for free? So Static Bonus Feat is 2RP.

I might just need to run a Magic Disabled Psionic Enabled campaign soon...

Say I run it as a PbP & you help me out as a Co-GM?

yes and true. so 2 RP for a static bonus feat. the second Big book was called psionics expanded, which was a collection of previously released classes.

So this seems to be shaping up to be an interesting campaign.

Side-Topic: Sweet. But I still am very leery of mixing Mages with Psionics...

Sorry for the sight Thread-Jacking...

will be brainstorming the dreg on the morrow.

I can hear you; I have had many players come along who voiced the same issue when I ran things. But I honestly feel alternate Supernatural systems are bad when balanced. Dreamscared's is balanced, as are the other 'magic' systems I use in my campaigns. Player's who find all of these different sources off putting usually change their mind when they encounter my Worlds spanning order the Five Chasers.

And Toaster, when ever you can man, no rush. I love your work with the Adv. Race Guide and can't wait to see what you do for the Dregs.

Alright, but before i get serious, how "fishy" do you want the dreg? swim speed and/or Amphibious are both traits i am considering. also, remembering the illithid comments, tentacle attacks are also on the table.

I will really need to go through them then.

Also I wish I was as good as +5 Toaster when it came to the Race Builder...

I tend to go for Basic Flat Bonuses. Nothing Situational...

Your welcome?

Well that all escalated quickly.

Toasty, I envision the Dregs as very fishy. Definitely amphibious, Iffy on the swim speed as they walked on the bottom, rarely swimming.

I can see Dregs using Swimming like we use Jumping & Running.

Azaelas Fayth wrote:

I can definitely see it like that.

Maybe not a Swim Speed, but a Swim Bonus.

That definitely, but I just do think a natural swim speed.

Hmm... Maybe base them on the Gillmen from the ARG?

Might work.

Water Dependency is perfect for them as well.

Might work. Any ideas for their feeder tentacles?

Tentacle Attack?

For face tentacles?
