Lantern Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Our table's most memorable character is the hireling of a ninja who never made it to level 2. It started when the player had spent almost all his starting money on weapons, leaving no money for rations, bedroll, etc. He began combing Hero Lab for the cheapest possible option to stay warm at night and to carry his belongings allowing him to remain at light encumbrance. Pack animals were too expensive, but he finally settled on an elderly slave for a few sp and named him Alfred, after Bruce Wayne's butler.

Yes, he was allowed to use a slave purchased for < 1gp as both a bedroll and a porter.

We speculated on just how elderly and frail Alfred must be to be sold for such a low price. Alfred became a thousand years old. Alfred carries a colostomy bag. How does Alfred carry all of the gear? Alfred must carry a colostomy bag of holding.

The ninja PC himself had such improbably awful luck doing absolutely anything that the player scrapped the character. Color sprayed in the first three adventures. Tried to acrobatics past a creature and was knocked unconscious. Tried to climb a tree and could not. The player vowed never to play this character again. But the legend of Alfred lives on.

Whenever Drandle Dreng appears, Alfred gives him a lesson on how things used to be in his day.

Also, whenever one of our regular PCs passes a saving throw, the ninja is said to have failed.

Laughing so hard, what a story.
