I think that building multiple archetypes (lets say more than two) at the same time is detrimental for them. In my experience, when you have to throw around that many ideas at the same time, you risk them becoming generic.
But I didn't build them at the same time. I had the basic concept for several of them jotted down, but I designed them one at a time. When one was done I moved on to another. I've gone back a couple of times and made some minor tweaks the the older ones, but the ideas are not conflicting. It is true that out of my five archetypes, I only used three classes. But then the second ones I did for class A and class B are better than the older ones for the same two classes. And are the two I'm considering to be my entry (provided I make this huge first step) are just these too. Consider the other three to be practice.

Well, you know if that works for you, it works. But in my experience, its best to focus on fewer ideas and fully flesh them out, even if they don't seem to have much potential. Often you'll get good, maybe even great results. Of course its always best to work on a great idea, but you don't always get to do that.

I have one drafted, and another I am having difficulty drafting. I keep working on it, then going: No, that would be better as it's own class if I keep going in this direction. *flail* And I really like this particular concept, I'm just having a horrible time.
What scares me about all of this though ...
What if I do well?

Fear of success is the same as fear of failure. If you do well you might find yourself running in a new career direction.

I'm wondering if deep down, I'm in a similar place to you here. I think I'm one of those sporadic flashes of inspiration/imagination people and I might have had one of those moments for the Wondrous item round. What if I get in and I have to have another flash to stay in it, and then another and another? I think it would be an exciting ride but certainly very stressful. Perhaps you have to look within and focus on how much you want the huge opportunity this contest represents, and that keeps the fears and doubts away.
Best Regards
