Ok hmm i wish my books were in front of me. I thought there was a feat you could take for helping out that spell. what about metamagic feats?
There is a feat for boosting caster level with a particular spell, but dispel magic does not use a caster level check. It uses a dispel check that is based on your actual caster level. The only thing I know that would work is the trait listed by BBT.

I think he'll be fine!
'In the event that a class feature or other special ability provides an adjustment to your caster level, that adjustment applies not only to effects based on caster level (such as range, duration, and damage dealt), but also to your caster level check to overcome your target's spell resistance and to the caster level used in dispel checks (both the dispel check and the DC of the check).'

where did you pull the Quote from?
I'm at work right now, so I can't give you the page number (it was on p.187 of the 3.5 PHB). In the CRB (just like the PHB) it's near the beginning of the Magic chapter, just after 'Counterspells', under the heading 'Caster Level'.
Hope that helps. : )

You could house rule that Spell Penetration applies to Dispel Magic attempts as well or create your own version of it where the checks apply to Dispel Magic attempts. That I know of though it's a function of straight caster level, making Dispel Magic kind of hit or miss. I rarely take it for that reason when I could just Fireball the offenders instead. Not a bad thing to have a wand of though!

Get a cohort / party member to play a cleric with the Arcane subdomain of the Magic domain, and have them throw down 'Arcane Beacon' right before you cast Dispel, and use the CL boost effect.

Just hope they haven't cast Protection from Fire, neh?
Second most important wizard spell (after Haste).
