The hyperlink "This item breaks the rules." is not a link to a page that tells you how this item breaks the rules, but rather the link you push to report it. I did this once with the first item I viewed. I apologize to the designer, and will happily tell the judges if they pm me which one I clicked on so they know to disregard it.

Again, the link "This item breaks the rules." is the button to report a rules violation.

Wow, this totally confused me. That is not clear AT ALL.

I have "Voted for neither" for the first 6 pairs that came up, as I was waiting for items that didn't break the contest rules. In addition, I have erroneously reported two items.

The text on this really needs to be changed.

It should say "Click here to report this item for breaking the contest rules".

Honestly, and with all due respect, this is a serious faux pas with regards to UX. Links that actively invoke actions on the same page as buttons which also actively invoke actions is just asking for trouble.

I also unwittingly did this on the first item.

I did the same thing. Fortunately, according to the voting FAQ, it merely flags the item for judges' review, and doesn't kick it out of the contest entirely.

We'll be review anything flagged for breaking the contest rules, and accepting or clearing the flags as necessary.

We might change the way that flagging link is presented tomorrow. Right now I want to leave it how it is so we can figure out everything that might need tweaking. But I can see how it might be confusing. Maybe we'll just throw up an "are you sure" type dialog once it's clicked.

Also, people please remember, as I'm seeing this everywhere:

Bad formatting or mistakes do not break the contest rules! They are errors, and should be judged as such.

flagging should be reserved for things like "Harry Potter's Wand" or for cursed items, or artifacts, or a 301 word item. Not for 'this item doesn't use bold tags'.
