Hey guys,
I just stumbled upon some guy's house rule. He tied the distribution of Hero Points to a character's BAB progression, like this:
Good BAB: 3 Hero Points/day (Barbarians, Fighters, etc.)
Medium BAB: 2 Hero Points/day (Rogues, Bards, etc.)
Bad BAB: 1 Hero Point/day (Wizards, Sorcerers, etc.)
is reasoning was to balance spellcasters against melee types, which is a probllem because not every game suffers from this penomenon as much as internet hyperbole might suggest, but still. What's your opinion on this? I think the idea has some merit, barring questions of multiclassing between classes with different BAB progression and the like.

The idea isn't bad, though I'd rather base it on caster levels than BAB. Barring multiclassing, I could see giving 4/day to non-casters, 3/day to 4-casters, 2/day to 6-casters and 1/day to 9-casters.
That way, rogues would get more than clerics, which makes sense if you're doing it for balance's sake.
Also, at low levels, both your version and mine makes casters suffer. At 1st level, a wizard isn't overpowering a barbarian; giving the barbarian several more hero points can make the barb overpower the wizard.
The issue still is multiclassers though. Maybe those two issues can be fixed together through a progression chart based on accessible spell levels at certain levels granting more hero points?

What about something like this? You compare your highest-level spell access to your character level on the chart, and that gives you your number of hero points.
So for single-classed characters, it's as I mentioned above - full casters get 1, bard casters 2, paladin casters 3 an non-casters 4. Exception would be spontaneous casters like the sorcerer, which has 2 points on the levels they're after the wizard in spell progression. If you're multiclassed, you can still work it out (a fighter 8/cleric 3 has 3 hero points).
