Intelligent Construct?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Is there any way in the rules for a spellcaster to build an intelligent construct?

There are Intelligent constructs in the Bestiaries you can build (homunculi, soulbound dolls off the top of my head). Just use the feat Craft Construct from the Bestiary.

Or are you asking for a way to craft a normally unintelligent construct as an intelligent one?

A construct can be given sentience as an intelligent magic item (Core Rulebook, pg. 532). Note that intelligent constructs have much greater freedom of action than a standard intelligent item and "should be treated as NPCs" to an even greater extent.

The Items against Characters section on pg. 535 should also be reviewed. "Possession" of a self-willed, mobile construct is tricky to define and intelligent constructs can and will act independently of their creators to achieve their goals, even to the point of abandoning their creators if necessary.

I have longed for Paizo to provide support for this. A sentient, medium sized stone golem-like fighter is my dream PC.

I think intelligent items [read: constructs], per RAW, would either follow their creator or (failing that) wander off on their own in an attempt to live out their purpose until they were destroyed.
