How does the fetish mask work?
It states that: This ability otherwise functions like and replaces the standard witch familiar. But what does that mean?
- Is the mask just a magic item storing the spells or is it a living, intelligent thing?
- If it is intelligent, does it have an ego?
- What are its stats? It needs at least wis for it's saves (if it's an intelligent magic item) and others if it can use skills like a normal familiar)
- What is it's casterlevel? That is needes for it's saves if it's a non intelligent magical item and to determine if it can be repared with mending or make whole.
- What is it's hardness?
- Does it have the normal familiar hitpoints?
- Does it cover the complete face or can you still use your bite attack while wearing it?
- Do area effect spells affect it like a familiar or like a magical item?
- Does it get the normal familiar abilities depending on it's level? Like the following normally gained at first level: Alertness, empathic link, improved evasion, share spells, store spells
- I can enchant it as if I had the craft wondrous item feat. Are there any enchantment abilities that protect the mask itself?

Most of the questions boil down to the question:
Is it a living thing, a magical item or a mixture of both and which of the normal familiar abilities does it get?

Sczarni

picture it as an arcane bond, or better yet! The tiki god from the Brady bunch.

You can make it be however you imagine, but it takes up your face/glasses slot.

Perhaps I can make it look as I want. But I have to know the rules on what it can and what happens to it if it'S in the blast area of a fireball for example.

it's a bonded object, although with the ability to store witch spells like a witch familiar.

That would mean that you can't cast spells without concentration check while not wearing it and it would mean that I can cast one more spell per day from all spells in my spellbook.
Both are things not mentioned in its entry.
So I don't think that's it.

After thinking about it for some time I think it's not a bad idea for a HR. That way you have a clear set of rules to follow and it's not a heavy additional drawback for the witch because she has bigger problems than some concentration check when she looses her mask.

But even if my gm thinks it's a good idea to rule it like that some questions remain: Can you use a damaged bonded object for casting spells?
Which hardness/hp should a mask have?
Are there other enchantments that can be put on it to protect it?
I only know armor enchantments that do this.

Edit: forget about ironwood I thought it was permanent

If I wanted to add a magical property that protects the mask as with the book ward spell with unlimited duration and a protection thet renews itself regularily. How would I best do that?

I think I could add a command word activation book ward spell with 1 charge per day.
If I did that with CL 4 it would be like following:
It would be base price 1800, CL4, Spell level 2, one use per day, additional property.
1800*4*2/5*1.5=4320 gp

At first I thought making it a spell trigger item with charges would be cheaper but it is even much more expencive and I'd have to make a UMD check to use it.

So is there a better/cheaper way to give my mask a book ward effect than the one above?
With CL 4 it would stay for 4 days and it normally only takes damage from spells and the like if I roll a natural 1 on my save. But a lower CL would reduce the protection it offers.

Or can you suggest completely different spells/protections?
