OK, I need a clarification.

You have to reduce your XP to 33 (lv 12.0) before starting a Tier 12 scenario or event.

So what if you played a module and got to 12.1 or 12.2 and then go on to play another module?

A module is not a scenario nor an event. It is a module.

Do you still lose the extra XP or do you get to keep it?

I think you only have to reduce XP if you intend to play Eyes of the Ten. There seems no reason to do so if you're just going to play modules.

This is correct. Only if you are entering Eyes of Ten do you need to adjust GP, PP. etc...

Hopefully enough information is out there that there will soon be no more need for exceptions, exemptions, and special cases and a simple line can be added to the next version of the guide.

For characters that did the Grand Convocation 4712 AR at level 12, if they want to play Eyes of Ten, then they essentially need to subtaract the XP, GP, & PA gained from that event?

The rule itself seems pretty clear - to start the retirement arc, one must scrape off xp and gold until one is at 12.0, which would include something like the GC.

Perhaps at this point a better question is: could an accommodation be made to those who've leveled to 12.1 or 12.2 through a "special" (Runecarved Key, Convocation) allowing *that* chronicle to be removed and then re-applied *after* the retirement arc is complete? This would alleviate the sense of a "wasted event", allow PCs to retire, and *wouldn't* put them ahead per se since they'd been getting level 12 rewards at level 13 (so it wouldn't be de facto "playing up").

I don't have a brand in the fire myself (the rule was made pretty clear to me a few months ago when I was originally planning to go to 12.2 with a module and then start the retirement arc!), but it *does* seem problematic to essentially render a Special "punitive".

Chernobyl, how did you get to 16? As I understand it, the options available really dry up at level 15. Really curious as I'm keen to take a PFS characters as high as they can get.

Eyes of the Ten gives 5xp, so finish at 13.2

Academy of Secrets, 13th level Sanctioned Mod, 3xp, finish at 14.2
Tomb of the Iron Medusa, 14th level Sanctioned Mod, 3xp, finish at 15.2
Played Race for the Runecarved Key at Pacificon, 15th level, 1xp, finish at 16.
We plan to play the 16th and 17th level sanctioned mods to plateau at 18th, which is as high as we can get, for now.

Mike, this latest thing you said seems to be in direct contradiction to what you said about two weeks ago. When I asked if a character who is 11.2 can just keep playing modules for full credit if they don't intend to play Eyes of the Ten, you said: "We are going to stick with what is in the Guide currently. If we make exceptions, then it gets too confusing. If you are not going to play in EoT, then play one additional 7-11 scenario to make it to 12th to then play a module."

Now you are saying that a character who is at 11.1 or 11.2 and plays modules and has no intention of playing Eyes of the Ten can get that full credit and doesn't need to stop at 12.0.

And that is why we are going to update the guide this month and put version 4.3 up in December.

Let me clarify once again. If you play Eyes of Ten, adjust GP, PP and XP to be exactly 12th level when you start, with the exceptions of if you played Race for the Runecarved Key or the Grand Convocation.

If you are going to skip Eyes of Ten, then you can play modules whenever you are eligible to.

You still can't run more than one character through Eyes of the Ten, correct?

Right now it looks like if you get to 12.0, your three choices are:

Acadamae of Secrets
Ruby Phoenix Tournament
Eyes of the Ten

After that there's only one module/scenario for each further level.

I've got one character at 10.2, with a game on the docket get him to 11.

I've got another character who hit 8th, that I switched to slow progression so that I can enjoy playing her for longer...but she's the one I want to run through Eyes of the Ten, assuming it hasn't been retired or some such before I play 24 scenarios with her.

If I were building this information into the guide, I'd format it like this:

If your character is <12: Play scenarios normally. If you play a module that takes you over 12, take partial credit under the normal rules and make yourself 12th level. 12th level is a transition point for Pathfinder Society characters. It is in your best interest to hit 12 EXACTLY, not 12.1 or 12.2.

If your character is 12: {List of Modules/Scenarios}
If your character is 13: {List of Modules/Scenarios}
If your character is 14: {You get the drill...)

That is correct. You may only play Eyes of Ten once for credit. You can also GM it once for credit so you could advance a character that way as well.

Thanks for the advice on wording.

ok ... Hypothetical question

and something Ive been curious about for awhile

Step 1 - GM Eyes of the Ten
Step 2 - Apply Chronicle to Character for Credit
Step 3 - Apply Boon to new Character
Step 4 - Play New Character up to level 12

the question comes here ... Could the Character which you applied the boon to .. subsequently play through Eyes of the 10 Thus resulting in having 2x Part 4 Chronicles on a particular Character

My Gut would Say no ... but curiosity abounds

Grand Lodge 4/5 Pathfinder Society Campaign Coordinator

No, you may only have one boon per scenario on a character, whether it was earned through playing or GMing.

I had a few minutes so I thought I would rewrite this into a format that could actually appear in the "Guide." (And that would block off all the loopholes I could think of.) Considering how much this could affect some people who are very invested in their characters if a change like this is incorporated into the Guide, I think the text should officially appear on the messageboards - as its own thread - well in advance of the Guide revision release (a couple of months seems reasonable) to give those who were planning to retire using the old series of clarifications time to start the scenarios.

Quote:

"Eyes of the Ten" is a special series of connected scenarios designed to provide a challenge to characters who have just reached 12th level unlike anything they have faced before. In order to begin Part I of the four-part story arc your character must have exactly 33 experience (XP). Once a character has begun "Eyes of the Ten" that character may not be used in any other organized play event until Part IV has been completed.

As of the release of this version of the Pathfinder Society Guide to Organized Play a character who has reached more than 33 XP by any means is ineligible to begin "Eyes of the Ten." If you have more than 33 XP there are several sanctioned modules and special events that such a character may take part in.

The Exchange 1/5

Well, we played Moonscar this weekend so our group of 5 is now at 17th level. I see they've now sanctioned some AP parts now so looks like we can get all the way to 19th level by playing runelords part 6 at 18th level.
