Domains.

Advice

hey all.

So I am building a Cleric for PFS and would like the following 2 domains.

Growth (Sub of Plants)
and
Travel

I cant seem to find a diety that grants them, however I am no expert either.

Am I stuck with sepratist?

I don't think any deity has both plants and travel domains...

I could be wrong Though...

I'm fairly certain you are stuck with sepratist sadly.

Yeah I'm thinking Sepratist it is.

now comes the question do I enlarge less times a day?

or do I put off dimentional hop by 2 levels?

Right off the bat I think I will be enlarging less per day.

For what it's worth, the character is an Oread, so this is the only enlarge I will get for some time.

What do you mean enlarge less per day or put off dimensional hop?

@Azaelas Sepratist causes one of your domains to be a -2 to everything and loses you the favored weapon proficiency

@Thefurmonger i would definatly choose a god with travel and take the hit to growth if for no better reason than growth leaves you stuck with Erastil.

@Azaelas, As Bertious points out Sepratist makes one of your domains -2 cha/-2 Wis/and -2 levels.

So if you normally get a power at 8th? now its 10th.

normally 3+Wis mod a day? now its 2+wis mod (your wisdom counds as 2 lower, dropping the mod by 1)

@Bertious Yeah you make a really good point.

This is one place I HATE PFS, having to pick a god just based on the domains is not fun.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Strange...I thought playing a Cleric was about Roleplaying a servant of that Deity not Rollplaying the mechanical advantage of that Deity...

Strange... I thought you might have a helpful comment.

Looks like we were both mistaken.

My point was that having to shoehorn a concept in to fit a god sometimes becomes a really tough thing as far as RP goes.

For example this character is going to be a psudo-Living Monolith.

In other words he draws power from the earth and stone. thus enlarging him.

Sadly the only way to make that work is with the Growth sub-domain. I would dearly love to use that along with an earth diety. or just the concept of venerating the earth.

Sadly in PFS I really can't do that.

So I am looking at the sepratist archtype to be able to do what i want while staying within the rules.

Next time asking a question like "well why would you want to do this?" might be more helpful.

Well, looking at the gods...

You have Gozreh, Erastil, Daikitsu, and Lady Nanbyo that have the plant domain.

Gozreh, elements in all thier aspects.. this one seems like a good choice. Many that I have seen often focus more on a few aspects. Neutral god, so have a pretty open field for alignment choices.

Erastil, hunter and community builder, off hand seems a poor choice. Lawful good restricts quite a bit of the alignment spectrum, and a stony aspect does seem to be a "shoehorn" concept with him. (brick and mortar of the walls of a new town?)

Daikitsu, crafting and agriculture(more specifically rice), this "lady of foxes" seems an even worse fit. Though, ir your pseudo-stone person is a kitsune, it does become a tad easier. Also a neutral goddess, so alignments are easier to mesh.

Lady Nanbyo, technically does not have the growth subdomain.. I am uncertain if this is a rule in PFS or not. Saved for last. Now she is a naughty goddess, destruction, calamity, and suffering. Big disasters are her thing. But her emblem has a volcano, and earthquakes are in her purview.

As for the travel domain, I guess I kind of miss how it is a must for your concept.

Personally, I kind of like the decay sub to go with growth sub. But I also do not know if that is legal play. Decay could be skinned as being the petrification of those within your aura. And it is also a Gozreh subdomain.

But if it is not legal...Seasons might fit, the "endure elements" granted ability could easily be molded to be the endurance of a mountain.

Anyway, some thoughts!

Greg

Thank you.

It is far from a must.

One thing that I was thinking of was to take the Earth channeling so that I could create difficult terain then move in it due to the travel domain. I thought it fit that he could move in his own rubble.

If not then I would take the "Stony step" feat and let me ignore 5' of it.

The character is an Oread BTW.

Good news! This old blog post is PFS-legal. (See the sidebar to the right of the Additional Resources.) So, you can have Growth from the CG empyreal lord Valani. Domains: Chaos, Earth, Good, Weather. Subdomains: Azata, Growth*, Seasons, Storms.

And may I point out that the theme in question is that of growing earth, not plants. (But since Growth is technically a subdomain of Plants, you could still take Earth if you wanted to.) It couldn't be more perfect.

Wow, thats perfect.

Thanks so much for the help.

Liberty's Edge

Can't you also choose a philosophy in PFS? If so you could choose any 2 domains you wanted. That would cover everything except the free weapon proficiency.

There are no godless clerics in Golarion, so no.
