ARG "...only available for characters of the associated race" restriction

Pathfinder Society

Hi,

I'd like some more clarification on this. I talked with a friend that is more attentive on the boards than I am. He said it's been ruled fairly conservatively "only available for characters of the associated race" means that only for that race. However, he also mentioned that certain things are exempt from this (like the Treesinger Archetype). So that implies there is a little more flexibility than at first interpretation of this ruling.

So my question is:

If I count as that race for whatever reason, but not specifically that race, can I still take these things as long as I qualify? Some examples of this are the Half Elf Racial Trait, the Aasimar Racial Replacement Trait etc.

Thanks!

This has been explicitly ruled on as "No."

For the ARG content no, for other books content the racial heritage feat for humans does actually work to pick up specific non human abilities (but the ARG has been explicitly locked to prevent this in several posts by the campaign management)

Liberty's Edge

Advanced Players guide has, Alternate Racial Traits.

Can we use these in Pathfinder Society?

Did they ever give a reason why they made a special PFS rule for the ARG?

Hope it helps.

Can a human with the Racial Heritage feat take levels in an archetype that requires you to be of a specific race?
Yes, the Racial Heritage feat allows you to qualify for archetypes that have the chosen race as a requirement, assuming you still meet all of the other requirements to take levels in the archetype.

For Treesinger, no you can not take it as a human. Jason's ruling is for the overall Pathfinder rules. For PFS, we are more narrowly defining the rule.
