I apologize about the 3.5 reference then. A lot of times it is where remembering how it used to be is the root of a lot confusion, and it helps to clarify that things have moved on I have found.

It's nothing you need to apologize for, I've heard the bit about light weapons and power attack so many time that I figured you couldn't power attack with light weapons. Same goes for clerics and heavy armor, but old rules is a different discussion topic.

In regards to the other bit, it's in the Equipment chapter (6) where it talks about weapon properties.

And I understood that as penalties, not as all things that modify attack and damage. I'd hardly consider adding strength to damage a penalty (for the attacker).

Anyway, before this turns into another RAI/RAW/BLAH issue, I should say I'm not looking to argue, argue semantics, or anything generally argumentative, I just wanted clarification so that when I play the paladin who rolls poorly on her attack rolls, I can play her properly.

So you apply the penalty to hit for power attack to both ends, full str and one handed power attack to one end, and half strength and half power attack to the other.

Overall, you get one and a half str mod and power attack spread over the two attacks.

One other thing to keep in mind:

PRD wrote:
The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder's size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. For example, a Small creature would wield a Medium one-handed weapon as a two-handed weapon. If a weapon's designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can't wield the weapon at all.

Therefore, a human (medium-sized creature) could not wield a large-sized Two-handed Sword, as this would change the weapon designation beyond the three allowable.

How does this interact with the katana? Do you need exotic weapon to wield one handed profeciently before you came wield +1 size category in two hands?

Liberty's Edge

Seven years necro. There are tons of more recent threads that keep into account new feats and archetypes.

Yes. Unless you can't wield the normal sized weapon in one hand you can't use the large sized version with two.
