Well I care I love the generator.

Does it happen in a 64 bit version of excel too? If so I have no solution. If the sheet would still work in 64 bit excel, there would at least be that.

I really like sCoreForge i found it to be the most accessible free PFRPG character generation tool, but ive als been having issues with it, on my 32 bit excel, from extreme loading times to outright crashes and unreadable saves.

I care.

Actually I was about to ask if you could add another class, Gearhead.

I see your plate is full. Thanks for all the hard work and please keep the sheet going.

Love this sheet! Thank you for all your hard work over the past few years!

Liberty's Edge

I have to say yours was the best and only... until like 6 months ago, when excel 2007 decided it was too much and drop off on me.

Now I use PCGen.

But it was great while I could use it.

Idea: Different sheets for different classes/races? Try to break it down?

I love the sheet too, and it is my MAIN tool for my game. I so don't want to go back to the old days. I do not know about the 64 bit version, but I am now having major issues with my working copy of the sheet. (Sheet I work on before I publish). I have yet to try to break it into parts, but that might just delay it. And I wish MS had never added the stupid memory cap, or how they even do that memory limits.

I've been toying with the idea of rebuilding it in VB.NET or XML or something. But do we need another windows app? I used Excel because it was crazy easy to mod, and make work for me. I used PCGen, but I never liked its interface, and we always had custom everything. But that was 3.5 days, it might be better now.

So if I do totally build something new, but still 'like' what it is now, how should we do it? I would need it to run on PC, but running on Android would be good too. Web based? I'm not sure I know how to do that anymore. Give me some help. I need the love.

Liberty's Edge

You did something marvelous. In any case is Micro$oft fault, not yours.

Take a look at PCGen. It has it's issues, but it works. Maybe you can use it for ideas.

Web based? That would be great, if you could share them easily.

What about a kickstarter? You have the background and followup...

perhaps stupid question..but could the whole lot of it be transferred to the google spreadsheet program??

Shanwolf wrote:

I am not really sure. I know I would loose ALL the VBA back end code options. As well as the entire feats tab. I have never been able to get it to even load in the older versions of google spreadsheet.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

hmm..ok.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Open Office? hehe sorry, just spit balling to help you out.

My first thought was breaking a part class options but leaving all the racial and feat stuff so that you could have all the options; like core classes, APG classes and ACG classes but that would make multiclassing problematic and it may not break it down far enough to be manageable.

Seriously I have been using the forge since beta. Thank you for the work you have put in.

Thanks. I know when I first let this sheet out to the world I didn't think anyone would use it but me. And now I can't think of not using it.

I've been thinking of stripping out all the animal and familiar stuff to their own sheet(s). This might help in the short term, but maintaining all of this would be insane. 7.4 seems very stable (at least as a giant bloated excel file can be). I don't know how long it will be until I get something new set up. Honest I wish I could find a company out there that migrated Bloated Excel files for a living. Could price them out and see what our options are. I know there are several pay excel sheets out there, and I really wish I knew how they did it.

The future. OK I'm having some issues. I am not sure if this sheet can keep going. There are some major memory issues. And some of it might be my fault, but a lot of it has to do with how MS does things. I started added in the new classes for PFACG, and now the sheet isn't functional at all. It just crashes, and crashes. I've been looking into converting the sheet over to some other application, but is it worth it? I could break the sheet down again, but this will just slow down the same issue we are already having.

Thoughts? Ideas? Does anyone care?

I'm a little late to the party, but in in my best Luke Skywalker pathetic voice: "I care."

Idea time. So I've been digging, and I'm thinking of going with VB.Net (Windows Forms) with a XML based data structure. I'm very familiar with VBA and VB, so I expect the learning curve to be less. I'll finally be able to get away from many of the limits I hated.

Now my question, what the heck do I call it? Friend suggested sCoreForge Plus+, wife's idea characterCore. Anyone else have any ideas?

CharacterForge?

I also like CoreForge+ (cause Coreforge plus(plus) sounds weird.

Please keep it Mac /MS-Office compatible, I can't always print my sheets at work

and I care enough about this sheet, that I just generated all the NPCs of Fort Inevetable (Emerald Spire) with it.

Name: CharacterForge ?

Get a jump on product names for next summer and call it Coreforge Unchained.

Love this program other than the XL versus google/open office, I have to open it at work to get a sheet. My issue, not yours, im too cheap to drop 100 bucks on Excel.
Is there a plan to add a selectable spellbook at any point?

I'd like to add a THANK YOU to thebluecanary (and friends) for your efforts in developing and maintaining sCoreForge.

Like others, I to found sCoreForge the best and most accessible character generator for Pathfinder, and was always impressed by its flexibility and functionality.

Alas, also like others, having moved to a new PC with a later version of Excel, I'm unable to run sCoreForge any longer. Even returning to the old PC under an earlier version of Excel, the moth-balled system struggles under the might that is sCoreForge.

I look forward to your efforts in future, whatever direction you decide to go in with the product, and offer you simply words of encouragement...

Forge Ahead!

I am going to laugh now because that is the same name I came up with as well, and then I shortened it to charForge. But the name is still in flux.

As for the sheet, it will not be an Excel or office product. I am not sure if it will be Mac compatible, I would like it to, but I am not sure. I am going to make sure that all the data files are XML so they can be imported into different sources.

I like that "Unchained" part.

And if everything goes as planned, I will have spells, and character in one sheet. I might even go crazy and get some companions tossed in there. I do plan on added mundane items as well.

I'm going to try and add as many of the 'wish list' into this new project as well. I've got some wacky ideas bouncing around in this head of mine. Lets just hope I can make it stick.

Bluecanary, your character sheet is brilliant. I (and im sure many others) thank you for all your efforts. It may have risen out of a personal need but sharing it with us all and continuing work on it to help others is very generous :)

As for a new non-excel based program, i think that would be a great step forward. At a certain point the complexity goes far beyond what excel was designed for. I would certainly be willing to pay for it, whether you charge a set rate or simply open up donations for downloads.

I have a question with the sheet (my searching for scoreforge info lead me here), is the "black blade" feature of the magus bladebound archetype anywhere in the sheet? I haven't been able to see a way to add it (or other intelligent magic items) other than to modify a normal weapon and add the alertness and other effects through the magic adjustments tab.

Thanks again for your great work

Like many others, I care.

The nature of the game has outgrown the capabilities of excel. You need to move to something else, something with real programming power.

Have you thought of making it .net winforms application.

I am an experienced C# developer of 12 years, and classic ASP (vb) 5 years before that. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

I love this sheet and appreciate all your work :)

This is the 3rd time I have tried to post this. =P But I would LOVE the help. I could REALLY use an algorithm or some kind of evaluation function to do all the dynamic text. So I would very much love to have your help.

Would anyone else be interested in giving an objective opinion on how the new sheet functions? I am very much in alpha state, but would like to see how people like the new flow. Any testers interested?

I'm no good at programming, but I'll help by testing if you need/want it.

So you are doing it in Excel?

Not anymore.

Liberty's Edge

In what are you programming it, if I may ask?

VB.Net, its what I know, and what I got.

I would highly recommend making it web based. That is the future of everything.

I'm a front-end developer and could help if you were able to hookup all the backend data. We could potentially make something like mythweavers, but dynamic.
Just a suggestion~

I would love to, but it is just not within my current skill set.

Do you know if plans for the new hybrid class to come to this sheet as I love using it.

Short answer No.

Long answer, read back a few pages.

Thank you the reply.

I will have to make my player (shuder) make his bloodRager the old fashion way.

Well, I have posted a horrible version of the installer here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/scoreforge/files/characterForge/Alpha/

I am having issues with the 'Publishing' feature. It it is adding directories and things I didn't ask it to. The 'real' app is under the Application Files folder.

Very nice, far more along than mine. Your skill is clearly superior.

You are my favorite person today. =)

I just know enough to be dangerous. And about 15 years of coding. But only in out of date, unused code. =P

Also I FINALLY got a clean install uploaded. So now it might actually do something.

Grand Lodge

I tried it a little last night but maby I missed it I did not see a spot to print to test what a out put would look like.

Do you feel bad about our coding all I learned was Basic, lol

I learned on a C64, and DOS. And there is no printout yet. Remember this is still an Alpha, and I'm just poking for use and layout right now. I have many an idea for printing, but I am not ready for that yet.

Liberty's Edge

C64 forever! Did you use "Simon's basic"?

Corsario wrote:

We are getting a little off topic, and I really have no idea. =P

Grand Lodge

My first pc was a Comidor pc10. It was the side line to the C64 but it ran Dos instead lol. Now people know I am old :(

FYI: Pazio removed the playtest restrictions on mixing hybrid with parent classes, so you don't need the tblClassAlt.xml checks.

I still need it for Ninja and Anti-Pals, but as for Hybrid I guess not.

What are you using to make make this new sheet. I want to make a sheet to make towns with shops in them and using this and adding some random elements to it I think could make great random or main towns with changes as time goes on.

Bluecanary,
I just downloaded the latest version and I dont see any other discussion forum on the sourceforge site, so here I am. When I install the newest version 7.04.01 it isnt populating the specifics, traits or feats tabs. Could you include with the download a text install instruction, it may just be because im behind a firewall and worksafety adult child locks on my work PC. Or it could be because that hasnt been implemented yet, but clues lead me to believe its further along than halfway complete.
Thanks. Does this version somehow interface with Excel for printing a sheet out?

You are doing just fine. I am actually guessing you are talking about the Alpha install of characterForge. Most of the tabs are blank. I'm just trying to get an idea of how people like the setup. The blank tabs are just there as a holding place.

It does not link to the Excel sheet. I've had to move away from it because Excel can not deal with all the extra data I keep trying to feed it.

Weapons tab is just a simple display right now. I'm not sure how all the 'Save/Load' is working. I only tested it a little bit.
