wow... that was a LOOOoong downtime for scheduled maintenance. welcome back, all
Imm - Hope your visit with your grandfather went well.

Seijiro |

I'm glad someone else mentioned that magic water disappears after 24 hours since I only know that as ooc info. Also, since Seijiro mentioned at the time he spotted it that a walled fortress of some kind would probably have a water source, I assumed we'd have the casks with us... was I wrong? Anyway - yes, Dhaavan, Seijiro did pick up the perfume bottles with the other treasure back at the ghoul encounter, so you are free to use some of the perfume here.

Rain Taneththir |

I thought that Jiro mentioned in a much earlier posting that he was carrying a cask?
Immortal: Hope your grandfather is doing better and the visit went well.

Horatio Flynn |

I asked about the casks - and though the GM mentioned them, I didn't see anything concrete on what we did with them. In other words; as far as I know, none of us was carrying any of them, though he said we had them.
I presumed that we didn't actually have them on us, as a 5 gallon cask would be pretty bulky (standard water cooler cask is 5 gallons) - even if it was an empty wooden cask, that's not easy to carry around; slogging through jungles, hopping over wooden pylons, and fighting enemies with.
Also - while I would have known that the Create Water spell would disapear in character (my mom was a cleric, after all) - I wouldn't have cared.
I'm here to find my friends and have a frank and open discussion on how to assassinate Plugg; kill his allies, and take the ship. And I'd prefer to have that talk without him listening.
If we brought back casks and the water mysteriously gone - there is a hundred different ways to counter it - from recasting the spell again each morning and dumping out some water - to shrugging about the whole thing and come back and just do what we need to with Plugg.
Like I said - I came to this island for only three reasons:
1. Plan our move against Plugg without interruption or eavesdropping.
2. Find and get our friends back safe and sound.
3. And of course, because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Dhaavan |

Dhavan doesn't want to disregard loot, ESPECIALLY with the haversack. I jsut got online, but am prepared to argue my case.
Dhaavan also doesn't want to walk into a positon to give an excuse to be punished by not completing the task we were assigned. he wants plugg dead on his terms, not reactively.
getting our friends does not preclude getting loot that may help with getting them.
I'm checking out the rest of the posts, so i'll be looking at the main board. jsut wanted to give you a heads up

Horatio Flynn |

Dhaavan – I don’t understand your post. I don’t think anyone wants to give up loot.
The only thing I mentioned on the subject myself was the locket we found – basically I figured when we divide loot – Jiro should just get to keep the locket before we divide the value of the loot, as it was a keepsake of his friend. Other than that – I don’t think any of us want to avoid taking loot.
The only thing is – a haversack is kind of a large sack/bag. If we get back to the ship with it, and Plugg sees it – being as paranoid as he is – he may want to search it; and take what he finds. We won’t have room to hide the stuff we find, unless we keep it in the sack. And I don’t know if we can even hide the sack – but anyhow – I don’t plan on hiding it; I plan on killing Plugg.
Finally – to better articulate Flynn’s earlier comments – no; he’s not going to walk back to carry casks in a journey that is nearly seven miles to the boats – when the casks are 50 pounds when full. Even if we all had been carrying empty casks on us the whole time, I don’t plan on, nor intend to, fill the cask at a spring, than carry it all the way back to the boats, just so Plugg is satisfied with “sprint water” as opposed to water we create by magic.
He won’t know the difference, unless he has someone personally watch if the water “disappears” in the morning. But if we get back with full casks of water – magically made or otherwise – that still gives us almost 12 hours to plan an attack, assuming we decide to get back on board the ship and not fight him right away.
Anyway – that’s just my two cents, though. But I’m not planning on lugging 50 pounds of water around per cask for seven straight miles. But then, that’s just my character’s opinion, though.
As an aside, if our friends are on the western coast, if we find them (when we find them) and save them; I’m all for just walking on beach around the perimeter, rather then walking all the way up a mountain, then all the way down a winding path on the other side of the mountain. A nice walk of the beach to the north east side, once we find our friends and save them. It may have a few more miles via circumference then “as the crow flies”, but I figure it’s a lot faster than walking through jungle, and so on.

Dhaavan |

My bad. Thought you said casks refering to the perfume. Cause those would fit in the haversack and they won't spill. That's the loot. We got time to deal with the water later.
I passed out yesterday trying to get through the posts. When I get home, I'll check the board

DM Immortal |

Hey everyone I will be in meetings all day today so I won't be able to post. Will have something up tonight.

DM Immortal |

Word of warning, this is the penultimate battle of the first book and honestly will probably be harder than your fight (if it comes to that) with Plugg will be, as such I will not pull any punches. Make sure you are tactically on your game as I intend to use the monsters to their full potential. Don't forget about your hero points. Work as a team. Good luck!

DM Immortal |

By the way, by battle I meant the whole of the cave system. I haven't attacked you yet lol.

Rain Taneththir |

If this mighty battle happens over the weekend, just know I won't be online much. My weekend starts tomorrow. Honestly, what's up with battling over the weekend every single time? Because then I'll probably have to be npc'd every time. Sigh.

DM Immortal |

Rain don't worry this weekend is going to be busy for me so not much will go on. At best we might start back up on sunday your monday. Plus this will probably last a little while. Even though I am eliminating several of the encounters that you normally would have, the ones you will have will take a bit I think.
These battles I want everyone involved in so they will only happen during the week because they are pretty important...and pretty brutal.

Rain Taneththir |

+1 Boarding Pike of Repelling
I thought so. Dhaav keeps calling it something different every time he mentions it in game. ;) LOL Thanks, again.

![]() |

If I post an updated spreadsheet with loot would you fill in the blanks for values or do we need appraise checks on the items you didn't give us gp values for?

DM Immortal |

I'll fill in any values you don't have. Don't worry about appraise checks.
The boarding pike normally has a reach of 10' but this one is magical in that it can extend an additional 10' as a swift action. It takes another swift action to reduce back down.

![]() |

Loot list updated since the fight on e ship. I think that is everything from the boards. Let me know if I missed something please.
Yes Variel will cast light on the pike. How does that work since it ican reach 20 ft? Is the light centered on Rain's square then?

Horatio Flynn |

I've tried to connect to the "loot" page - but it keeps saying -
Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error.
Is that something that can be adjusted?
Thank you!

Seijiro |

Flynn - Dhaavan brings up an important point - HE has the MW dagger that we found, if you want to carry it - you'll have to talk to him.
Also - I'm looking at the spreadsheet and it says Seijiro has the amulet of natural armor - I thought Dhaavan had that. I don't mind having it but I just want to be clear about who has it before I adjust my AC and such.
Variel - you left off the +1 Short sword from the list - Flynn has it.

![]() |

Thanks will update and sorry about the amulet will put it on Dhaavan tab.

DM Immortal |

Hey Variel, a couple of notes on the loot tab.
The small gold ring with sapphire is the ring of swimming.
Nobles clothes are worth a total of 50gp.
Silver locket is worth 25 gp.
You are missing the +1 short sword that Flynn has/had which is 2300 or so. Not sure if he still had it though or where it went.

Horatio Flynn |

I still have short sword on me - the glowing one.
As for the MW Dagger - sorry, I thought we had more than 1.
In which case, if Dhaavan is going to use it, I'll give it back to him.

Horatio Flynn |

Dhaavan - the only reason I asked for the MW dagger was on account of the fact that I just picked up "Two Weapon Fighting". Thought that would be handy to have a second weapon - once I fired my pistol (didn't know I'd have a bow at this time) if we had been swarmed on the pirate ship than I figured in close range, it would do me more good to have 2 attacks on an enemy, rather than firing and having to step back every few rounds.
Of course, the same would be true in an enclosed tunnel area - especially if we were surrounded. But it's up to you about the dagger.
To GM: I don't know if you knew this - but if you enlarged the map a bit on "Map Tools" you could add a "grid" which would bisect the 10x10 water grid - making it 5x5. Also - you could add in coordinates, which may help in battle. Than, you could use that image as your primary image on the overhead map, as opposed the image without a 5x5 graph or coordinates. Just a suggestion, though. It would not compromise the picture, but if this is a really tough battle, I'd really like to know who attacks what, and where. But, anyway, for what it's worth - that's just my idea.

Dhaavan |

Flynn - One thing to consider is that the shortsword is also a light weapon. GOing into battle with a high threat-range rapier, and a magic short-sword is unequivocally better than either of those weapons and a dagger. Sure mwk gives a bonus to hit and damage, but the rapier does one more average damage, AND has a higher threat-range. It would be a good way to go with Rapier primary, and short-sword off-hand.
The gm is going to give us a aoomed in map with 5x5 grid when we get into a combat, he said. HE's just going to use this large one for now. it's way to macro to run a combat on at this point, regardless of the grid

Ah - thanks for the heads up on the map thing, I've been somewhat sick all week and haven't been up to my game on reading through the posts, as you may have guessed.
However - sadly - I left my rapier on the ship, as I was given the +1 sword. If I had it, I'd use it - but I didn't expect to level on the island, and gain the feat which would make using it handy.
Otherwise, yeah - I would have done that for sure. As it is - I don't have the rapier on me :(

Dhaavan |

there are mundane daggers, and the only difference is they lack a +1 to hit. but you should have enough bonuses to deal some damage, where that +1 changes dhaavan from a -1 to hit to simply a 0...

No worries - the MW dagger is yours.

Seijiro |

just checking in - I'm alive and well, just really busy.

DM Immortal |

hey all. Still lots going on right now. Will start back up tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

Horatio Flynn |

Hey - is it just me or is there some major issue with the site? I mean - I can't refresh my posting properly, can't post information properly, won't let me refresh information - the layout looks really screwed up.
Is anyone having this issue as well?

Seijiro |

layout isn't that screwed up for me, but the listing for each campaign isn't clearing when I click on 'x new posts' - it still says the same number after I've read them. sigh.

Horatio Flynn |

When I hit "refresh" on the main board, it taps me to some page that has no post - it doesn't refresh anything.
Gods damn it! The site was fine - I hate it when people feel it necessary to "update" things that work just fine with no reason whatsoever - especially when the update is worse than what they had.
Who did the update, Windows Vista? I mean - grrr.....

Seijiro |

*pat, pat* it'll all be okay, i'm sure they'll fix it, hopefully soon.

Rain Taneththir |

It looks fixed now. It was showing a phantom page 55 with no posting earlier on. But it's not there anymore. Notifying us of new postings however is still screwy. I'm just manually checking into each page now to ensure I don't miss a posting.

Rain Taneththir |

Clarification please: I read that on command, a boarding pike of repelling can be extended as a swift action, giving its wielder a reach of 20 feet for 1 round. I'm assuming then that the reverse is true too: that to contract it back to 10 ft would be a command (swift action) as well, yes? And by command, it is a vocal command? Thanks.

DM Immortal |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

When it says for 1 round that is the duration before it reverts without any action on your part. If you want it to stay extended you need to expend a swift action each round in order for it to stay extended. Not that big of a deal since you can still move and do attacks and such when using a swift action. Essentially it works like this, Swift action to activate, you still have your move and standard action to do whatever you wish but you can't use any other swift actions in rounds that you have the pike extended. Also, yes it is a vocal command word which you know (make it up if you wish - maybe it's Extend in Aquan or something). Command word items are normally a standard action to activate but this one is special in that it is only swift. I hope that clears things up.

Rain Taneththir |

Hello, everyone. I am unfortunately bowing out of this game due to lack of time and other external reasons. I would like to thank Immortal for being a cool DM and giving me the opportunity to play in his game and also to him and all of you for making this game interesting. I wish you luck in this campaign. :)
Immortal, if you can NPC Rain for this battle, that would be great. If Rain survives this fight, please drop her off at Port Peril (or nearest island) and she will make her own way home.
Thank you, again.
Rain.

Seijiro |

Well that's really a bummer... we are losing a great player and our captain as well... now what are we gonna do?

DM Immortal |

As I told you in PM I have absolutely enjoyed having you in the game and am sorely disappointed to lose you. I understand your reasoning and wish you nothing but the best. Know that if you EVER change your mind you would be welcome back with open arms. In addition, if I ever run another game I would be more than happy to have you.

![]() |

Sorry to hear that Rain. I will definitely miss having younaround. Now who do I have to temper me around Flynn ;p
In all seriousness, good luck and I wish you the best.

![]() |

Scene I am board right now thought I would throw this up since Rain is unfortunately leaving us. As far as positions on the ship what are people's thoughts now as to what they would like to be once we survive this devil fish and eventually mutiny?
Sko as captain since he has all the skills for it and nice spell casting to help
Dhaavan as first mate/Bosun to control the crew with his high charisma and arcane expert
Variel as master at arms
Flynn as master gunner/siege engineer and backup surgeon if something happens o Valeros
Valeros as ships surgeon and divine expert
Jiro as quartermaster and spy
This is just looking at skills and abilities not at players wants.

Seijiro |

Just want to say again how bummed I am that Rain is leaving... still, we must press onwards.
Variel, that division looks good to me. I think Sko would make a good captain and like you say, he's got the skills for it. Dhaavan as first mate and ship's caster seems like it would be good fit, esp. since he's not 'evil' anymore lol... they all look good in fact and I'm fine with that division of posts. Basically gives us all something to do and a position (or two) on the ship.
We might want to give some thought as to what to do with a few special npc's as well...like Rosie and Sandara, assuming we can even rescue them. I'm sure they'll side with us in our mutiny and just making them 'generic crew' seems like inadequate reward. Of course such consideration is all dependent on us rescuing them, so not something we need to worry about quite yet, but it might come up soon.
