Perception penalties apply to using spellcraft to identify spells so that roll is not high enough to identify the spell.

Action: Identifying a spell as it is being cast requires no action, but you must be able to clearly see the spell as it is being cast, and this incurs the same penalties as a Perception skill check due to distance, poor conditions, and other factors.

Round 27
Init 27

Darius simply waits where he is for the summoning spell to complete his bow ready. "Delay...hide...summon something to waste time...you are getting quite predictable. I do hope you are using your last few minutes wisely. Once you run out of spells please let me know when you are ready to run for your pitiful life."

Perception: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (14) + 40 = 54

DM Only:
Readied action to shoot Orion if he becomes a valid target.

(DM how high do the trees extend? I know this is not your map but there was very little info given by Tierce about it aside from the basic info from the start.)

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Keep in mind that the only trees you would be able to climb up are outside the arena. My rifts, I believe, cleared out all the trees in the arena.

Two more storm clouds pop into existance, above and to either side of the cup of force. These clouds still seem to have the malice the others did, but seem less dense than the two before. They rush down, booming thunder and sizzling lightning as they attempt to do what the other storm clouds did...leave Darius on the ground, without weapons. No other magic comes from Orion, though.

If successful, Cloud 2 will be holding the bow (since it isn't holding anything else).

GM Only:
Orion moves stealthly, flying out of the cup of force and staying adjacent to it (while not going out of bounds of course). Readied action: Cast Mage Hand on the bow should the Huge Lightning Elemental (Storm Cloud 2) drop it for any reason.

Storm Cloud 1 Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 17 + 10 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 17 + 10 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 46

Storm Cloud 2 Disarm Attempt: 1d20 + 17 + 10 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 17 + 10 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 4 = 57

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 53 ⇒ (3) + 53 = 56

Round 28
Init 27

Darius sighs. He casts Fear once more hitting both Elementals with panic that cuts to their core.

Casting Defensively: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (1) + 30 = 31

Will saves from both Elementals please.

DM Only:
Casting Defensively Fear on the Elementals. DC 27 Will save. For his Move action he will retrieve his bow if both Elemental are panicked.

(Also note that while #2 might be holding the bow it will drop everything when panicked and flee.)

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Oh don't worry...I know.

Storm Cloud 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Storm Cloud 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

As the cone of fear spreads out like a blast of the darkest terrors of the Abyss, the cloud who tripped Darius runs screaming off into the forest. The one holding the bow surprisingly resists.

Did you have a move action you wanted to perform? This isn't my turn by the way, just a response to the spell.

I will say the trees are 20 feet high, and things like this are why you guys will have a map, well whoever makes it to round 2 anyway. :)

Nope I'm good where I am.

(Just was wondering DM how they charge into difficult terrain of the trees then with 15 ft reach?)

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Didn't my rifts remove the trees since they were above ground?

(Rifts do not destroy the terrain they replace it temporarily for the duration of the spell.)

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Alright, I can fix that easily enough...though, as the tripping question was asked, how were you able to so easily shoot me through the dense coverage of trees?

(I've requested the DM to make a ruling as both are valid points. There is no sense in argument, let us just abide by whatever decision he feels is appropriate.)

(P.S. Though after looking in the rules a little trees do not usually grant miss chance, just degrees of cover would make the most sense. I still rolled miss chance for the concealment though and don't believe the two would stack.)

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

Aye, they don't. I definately wouldn't mind restarting to something a little more...structured. >.>;

The trees would be an issue depending on how dense they were and the trees would not removed by the rift.

The trees would have provided some sort of cover if they were thick enough, but not miss chance.

There is no simple solution or fair one at this point.

I can drop the trees to 10 feet, making the past actions more reasonable.

I can also restart this thing with an actual map, but both of you already know each, but then again had you met in round 2, you will have access to the same information as far as tactics.

I also have a 3rd solution that I will PM to both of you.

Who knows? Wouldn't you like to know...

The third solution has my approval. It stinks using the resources I had used, but those are the breaks.

The 3rd solution meets my approval. It is unfortunate but I think this would just be a long 40+ more rounds of endurance and delaying while spell durations fade and slots are burned up. That only serves to delay everyone else who wants to have some fun as well in the next round.
