Unsure of Disarm and Trip rules without a Disarm or Trip weapon

Rules Questions

Hey guys,

I've got a Two-Weapon Fighter I'll be using on Thursday who'll be level 4.

He has a +2 Strength, +4 BAB, Weapon Focus and a Masterwork Weapon. He'll also be focusing on Disarming his enemies, but uses two Wakizashi's.

His Feats will be as follows:

Spoiler:
Level 1 - Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Wakizashi), Two-weapon Fighting, Power Attack
Level 2 - Double Slice
Level 3 - Weapon Focus (Wakizashi)
Level 4 - Weapon Specialisation (Wakizashi)
Level 5 - Combat Expertise
Level 6 - Improved Two-Weapon fighting
Level 7 - Improved Disarm
Level 8 - Improved Critical (Wakizashi)
Level 9 - Break-Guard
Level 10 - Greater Weapon Focus
Level 11 - Two-Weapon Rend
Level 12 - Greater Two-Weapon Fighting
Level 13 - Critical Focus
Level 14 - Iron Will or Greater Disarm
Level 15 - Greater Weapon Specialisation
Level 16 - Staggering Critical
Level 17 - Stunning Critical

Wakizashi is a Deadly weapon, not a Disarm weapon, however. So, how would I go about disarming someone in this manner and what would my bonus to disarming be?

I have the same question for builds aimed at tripping.

By my understanding, you can still trip and disarm, but it'll be all based on your CMB, where as I think Trip and Disarm weapons allow you to add the weapon focus and enhancement bonuses to the disarm and trip attempts.

Am I right in thinking this? My GM thinks you can't trip or disarm without a trip or disarm weapon, which I'm pretty definite isn't the case at all.

Thanks! :)

You can always try to disarm/trip.
Using a weapon w/the disarm/trip skill gives you further bonuses (+2 to disarm,or the chance of dropping your weapon so you aren't tripped yourself).
Remember that you need the feat to proper use combat maneuvers, or you'll provoke AoO(attacks of opportunity).

Yea, I get the feat at level 7, so will be disarming from then onwards. :)

Weapons with the disarm property simply give you +2 to disarm attempts, but are not required to disarm opponents.

Weapons with the trip property allow you to drop them instead of being tripped yourself if you fail your CMB check by 10 or more.

CMB checks are attack rolls. If the maneuver uses a weapon (disarm, sunder, trip) and you have Weapon Focus and/or Weapon Training with the weapon you are using, you may add those bonuses.

Ok, so my Attack Roll for Disarming at level 4 for example, would be 6, as 6 is my CMB from BAB and Str?

Thanks very much!

Don't forget Weapon Focus; so +7 total. +8 if the weapon is masterwork.

You still get Weapon Focus even though the weapon is a Wakizashi? Well, I guess it makes sense because you're still using your weapon to knock the opponents out of his hand.

I'm guessing you only get weapon focus from this though and not your weapons masterwork enhancement bonus?

I know this is all on top of the +2 you get from Improved Disarm.

Yep; CMB = attack rolls. Anything that adds to an attack with a particular weapon adds to CMB with that weapon. Only a few maneuvers actually use weapons (disarm, sunder, and trip), though. So Weapon Focus, weapon training, masterwork/magical enhancement bonus, etc., all add in.

Ah, nice!

So, literally all a Disarm weapon does is give you an additional +2 to Disarm?

That's really helpful. Thank you!

That is all the disarm property does: +2 to disarm. Useful, but not neccessary.

Well thanks very much for going through all of that with me. :D
