Kangaroo Monk

Rules Questions

Could a Kangaroo with levels in monk and feral combat training make multiple kicks in a round? Also does "as well as effects that augment an unarmed strike" mean that the kicks would have their damage augmented at the same rate as an unarmed strike?

Grand Lodge

1) Yes, if the Kangaroo has an Intelligence of 3 or higher.

2) No.

Was there a official faq that said that the unarmed damage increase was not an augmentation and would not be effected by FCT?

1. A kangaroo cannot take monk levels. This was spelled out in an FAQ a while back to clarify the intent of awakening animals and what-not. However, RAW allows for a significant amount of wiggle room in that regard, so it's up to your group to figure stuff out.

2. Effects that augment unarmed strike don't actually include the class feature. Again, there's some wiggle room for interpretation, but generally MUS only affects non-natural weapons. However, Feats and Ki-pool still buff the natural attack, so there's that.

So here is the faq, and I've read it through and there is nothing in there at all that says awakened animals can't take levels in monk. Or whatever they want, really, since they have now been raised to sentience.

Even intelligent animals (ones with int raised above 3) aren't prohibited from taking character classes (though this falls outside the purviews of the rules, I suppose).

The only limitation it imposes is animals without opposable thumbs probably can't use swords and animals without vocal cords of the appropriate nature can't speak.
