I usually watch things about a year too late, so I've started on Konosuba, just finished episode 5. Very good show, though I think I may have watched too much anime since I called all the main characters' traits before the first words out of their mouth. Darkness especially.
My mom actually came over halfway through episode 5 and I finished it with her. She enjoyed it too, surprisingly, so that MUST mean it's good. She's not really an anime fan.

Wwwhhhhaaaa...?
I have no idea how you even human, bro?
I have no idea how you could have liked the film.
... how could you not?
Like, I'm genuinely curious - what was it about the film that bothered you so?
To me, it was a slow, but really sweet moment in the life of a girl - and that was all it purported to be.

In fairness, Konosuba is a parody. XD It's sort of meant for all the traits to be easily recognizable, since that's what they're riffing on.
I know it is, but I feel like if I hadn't seen so many anime the "reveal" would have been more surprising. =)
It's not a knock on the show, it's me coming to the realization that masochist characters really are THAT COMMON in anime. Which is just weird, man.

Ha, my mom actually comes around for afternoon tea to watch YowaPeddal. Kind of a tradition that started years ago with an Anime called Secret of Cerulean Sand

The only other anime we've ever watched together is Fullmetal Alchemist (the original, we actualy rented the DVDs from Netflix as they were coming out). To be fair, she says she'd watch more but A.) She usually doesn't want to read subtitles (and a lot of good anime aren't dubbed) and B.) She hates it when the artstyle shifts (particularly to chibi character models). This was the main reason she dropped FMA: Brotherhood, and hasn't watched anything since.
I keep telling her she should watch JoJo with me and my brother, but alas no luck.

I am notorious for my hatred of romances, so maybe I'm not the best audience for it, but this one was particularly slow. The audience (who was old enough to remember his work) would NOT stop laughing at the butchering of John Denver. It also didn't help that it was preceded by something a bit more pulse pounding (kikis, I think-which was shown dubbed, while this was subbed-talk about a mixup!!!) at the theater(saw it in an art house). It was... Ugh. Just not good.

Ah: wrong audience (not your kind of film), poor local experience (bad fellow audience, poor mix of films/emotional whiplash, not the kind of experience <sub/dub> you enjoy) - yeah, I could see that having a negative impact.
For me, I saw it at my brother-in-law's house, and enjoyed it more or less on our own, at leisure. It was so daggum sweet and fun!
I found the "butchering" to be something totally in-character. I understand why others wouldn't have.

Tanya the Evil
Tanya is her own worst enemy. She can almost effortlessly manipulate others, as nobody expects such thinking from a child but she has this wonderful tendancy to be too clever by half and stick her foot in her mouth. In someways God is a step ahead of her and just lets her dig her own hole.
The puppydog eyes and lip quiver she used against her rival at school were brutal. But to have everything turned around on her to find herself rocketing on a path to the most dangerous assignment she could get instead of a nice safe rear rank possition.
Beyond that the ending of the show is fantastic, great showcase of art from the books and one heck of a cool song.

Just out of morbid curiosity, what would be the verdict on Ghibli's Only Yesterday, with it's ending cover...

I'm afraid I haven't seen it! Sorry!
It's a hole in my Gibli experience, I must sadly admit.
No worries, Tacticslion- haven't seen any of the more recent Ghibli movies myself. What I can recall of Only Yesterday was that it pretty much also has a lot of "slice of life" elements to it. ;)

I love the ongoing conflict with "Being X".
Just remember: "Tanya the Evil" is great anime, "Tonya the Evil" is the Pathfinder Society Organized Play Coordinator.

Depends - what kind of genre(s) do you prefer?
This season's a bit eh, but Gabriel Dropout is okay for comedy, Masamune-kun's Revenge for Drama, and Urara Meirocho for the regular fix of Cute Girls Doing X.
Oh, but Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is consistently fun. o wo

As many of you already know, I work for an Anime convention in Pittsburgh. Rather than posting links to the cool AMVs that I find on Youtube in several different threads, I created my own thread in Gamer Life / Music-Audio to act as a public repository for everyone to enjoy. I also take requests. Post an anime and/or a song/artist, and I'll try to find something. You can also post the links for your own favorites, but I ask that you keep things PG-13. After all, children may be watching. Thank You all.

Well, Glynda can't really be a stand-in for anyone else but
ION, I was really worried we were going to lose either Ren or Nora in that last fight (I'm assuming the pink electricity when they both went down was supposed to mean their Aura was depleted. I don't think we've seen a physical manifestation of that before.) and was very glad we didn't.

Well, to be fair...
Plus, Yang has a motorbike, which pretty much lets her outpace anything except for a Nevermore.
Moving five times as fast down a path recently cleared out by the previous travelers? I've used that to explain why bad guys caught up to my PCs, seems reasonable to let the protagonists enjoy it in their own show. Not like that good fortune will last.
Sidenote: I hope the utter lack of Neo this season means a super-surprise appearance next season. Also, Neo McFarlane figure WHEN??

Finished watching Cyborg 009: Call of Justice on Netflix. Not sure what I think of the Blessed, other than they seemed way too much like a super-powered Illuminati.
Going to see if Netflix still has Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman, which I learned takes place in an alternate reality where their stories run concurrently with each other, and is thus non-canon. Edit: It does and I'm set to watch it.
Also going to watch The Seven Deadly Sins "Season 2" that just dropped on Netflix as well, even though I'm given to understand that technically it isn't a proper season 2. Edit: It's the 4 episode Signs of Holy War.
Been enjoying Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga. Much more personal than the previous series with regard to character building.
Enjoyed the 2 episodes of Granblue Fantasy that are out,and I'm looking forward to more. Also enjoyed Chain Chronicle as well.
After last week's episode of Dragon Ball Super, I've never seen so many fans turn on Goku. I get why, but wow, I never expected that kind of fallout.

Goku has rarely been anyone's favorite character. Him being the villain of this arc, it makes sense why people would turn on him.
What is the new Cyborg 009, exactly? Is it a reboot, or a continuation, or what?
I've been a fan of Vegeta since his appearance, but I know plenty of people who are fans of Goku (in RL and online). I don't think he's the villain though... it's not like he set the terms for the tournament, after all. There's something bigger going on and Goku is being used as a fall guy to facilitate whatever is about to happen, but that's just my theory.
Cyborg 009: Call of Justice is a three movie arc distilled into 12 episodes that takes place after the 2001 anime series. The cyborgs have basically retired from active service but are brought back in to the fight to deal with the Blessed. Edit: The movies were made to celebrate the manga's 50 year anniversary. Geez, I'm old (only 46).

He didn't SET the term but he did KNOW them, at least vaguely.
He made a willing and conscious decision to, no matter how this turns out, kill a number of people we don't even have a proper number to describe the number of.
And showed zero remorse and little dismay for it.
| Greylurker |
To be fair Goku has always lived his life with a "get out of shit Free" button. He is probably thinking "we'll wish everyone back after I win. No harm no foul. It'll all work out in the end"
The idea that He might not win or that the Super Dragonballs might not beable to undo Zen-oh Sama's actions just doesn't pop into his head.
Blayde MacRonan
|
He didn't set or know the terms. He found out what they were like everyone else at the time the High Priest told them. Goku's desire to match his strength against the strongest of the other universes brought them to where things are, there's no denying that. But I don't see this lack of remorse that everyone is talking about. He understands that the terms are bad for everyone and everything, but he's also not looking at the possibility of defeat either. Goku might understand better were it not for his brain damage, but he knows that there are people smarter than him who will figure something out. Besides, I personally think this is the arc where Krillin, Piccolo, and Gohan will really shine. I even think that Gohan, not Goku, will be the one to win it for universe 7 and that he'll be the one to use the Super Dragon Balls to undo the damage wrought by Zen-O.
| Alzrius |
He didn't SET the term but he did KNOW them, at least vaguely.
No, he didn't. He was told after the fact what the terms were, and he was upset by them, and offered to ask that they be changed, before being talked out of it. True, he's not freaking out over them the way that everyone else is - and this is an inadvertent result of his request - but taking an attitude of "eh, it'll all work out somehow" is entirely in-character for him.

Next season looks good.
more 'Saenai heroine no Sodetaka' - Yay!
Two manga I quite like have gotten adaptations.
Renai bouken - a BL obsessed cupid with what you might call a Love Note (write the names of two or more people together, they hook up) gets involved with a normal guy. Harem, supernatural, humor and the only yandere character I like.
Tsugumomo - guy has an obi that turns out to be a hot chick spirit with a strong S tendency. They fight possessions by evil spirits and the loser MC has quite the character development over the series (though we won't get quite that far in one season). It's also very ecchi, to the extent where you wonder if it's a very dirty story or a soft core porno with a great story.
Nothing else catches my attention right off the bat, but I'll check some stuff out when it comes.

Hero Acadamia
Shingeki no Bahamut

of the new stuff I'm interested in
Renai bouken
Book of Zero (Tiger man sold it to me)
Re; Creators (Fictional characters coming after the writers who created them. That just seems neat)
