They're two pretty different things after the first few episodes.
Alos, looking over the summary of Armada, it sounds a lot like a rehash of The Last Starfighter. If that's your thing though, then you want Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko.
Um... Right Stuff released the OVA twelve years ago, the TV show was never was licensed here.
So... Places...

I'd normally recommend tracking down the Animego or ADV release of SDFM, but from what I've seen those are pricey these days. The story's much better and more mature and Mari Iijima's voice acting and singing are far better than Rebecca Forstadt's. It's a shame A&E (who I think did the box set you have) haven't released the original Macross series as well.
Yes, but the two DVD sets I mentioned have been out of print since ADV went under.

I started watching MY love STORY!! from the Spring last night. It's a nice, very low key romantic comedy about a over-earnest gentle giant type guy who falls in love with a sweet girl who he's convinced is in love with his bishounen best friend even though she's really in love with him.
It's just swell.

That one has been our favorite of the season. I have this big goofy grin on my face every episode because it's just so darn cute.

Just came from Dragon Ball Ressurection of F. Lots of fun, simple with a bit of a Deus ex Machina ending, but fun.
Lesson learned - Goku is a Kill stealing SOB.
Side Note - Talked to the guy selling tickets. Theater was only doing 2 showings of the film this week only and both sold out entierly. I was lucky to get a ticket when I showed up an hour early cause there were only 6 left. Meanwhile apparently they can't even fill one showing of Fantastic 4.

"Dangaio BEEEAAAMMM!!!" is cooler then "HEART...BREAKER!" tho i give you that both shows were solidly enjoyable!
Let's not forget the move that NEVER worked. "Boost...Knuckle!"

I'll probably get back to the Slayers after that.
That would be it.

quiet you. That move worked wonderfully, setting up enemies for later attacks.
The dangaio team were professionals.

Looks like Rightstuf is releasing Mobile Suite Gundam next on both BluRay and DVD (Turn A was only on DVD). I have to debate this one as I purchased a DVD copy of the whole collection a year ago for a lot less money. Doesn't look it it's adding anything additional.
I hope Zeta is next.

so I just binged the first 6 episodes of Shimoda (A Boring world where dirty jokes do not exist)
and once I got over my "Holy Crap" reaction there is some very interesting themes being delt with here.
The basic idea here is that Child protection censorship laws have been taken to a rediculous extreem and now after 10 years the current generation of teens are totally clueless on matters of sexuality. They wear collars that keep them from saying banned words and bracelts that monitor their hand movements to prevent them drawing banned imagery.
Enter a terrorist named Blue Rose using dirty jokes and pornography to raise people's awareness.
At first it seemed pretty silly, and indeed the show is primarily a comedy but around episode 3 and 4 something happens to one of the characters that really drives home the message behind the story.
Because of the excessive censorship meant to protect these kids, they have been left comepletely and totally unprepared for puberty. Even the Biology books have been reduced to "when mommy and daddy share a special hug a baby is made"
They have no idea what is happening to them, what they are feeling or how to deal with it and nobody can tell them without breaking the law and going to prison.
Thee is one girl named Anna, who hs been raised so deep in this censored enviroment (her mother is the politician behind most of these laws) that she completely snaps over her reaction to the main character. Not funny ha ha break down either. She has twice now tried to rape him without really understanding what she is doing. We are talking tied up, blindfolded and ripping the cloths off assault here not flirty fanservice comedy accident either. It's really only luck that she's been stopped both times so far.
and in her mind it's all Pure Love.
Even though much of it is played off in a semi-comical way, In Anna, the series shows just how much damage you can do by being over protective of your children.

My wife and I are gonna watch the first 5 episodes tonight on Hulu, before the first one vanishes (I wish they had a flag or something that says -THIS show loses episodes and THIS one does not).
We also finished both seasons of Chaika: Coffin Princess. Loved her line towards the end..."Give Father funeral!"

Shinometa is... how should I put this... it's the kind of show where there was clearly a point where they needed to stop, and they knew where it was, but they just said "Screw it, let's keep going and see what happens".
Have fun. XD
What line do they cross if I may ask? This may effect whether or not I watch it with my wife or I reserve it for early morning viewing while she is still asleep.

probably the attempted Rape in Episode 4. Since it's the Girl attacking the guy, a lot of people found the scene funny but had the genders been reversed no one would be laughing. Maybe I'm just a bit overly sensitive but to me it was a bit of a shock. The episodes that follow drive it home, this girl is very very broken and very dangerous.
That said it's a good show and is taking the concept of an overly censored world to a rediculous extreem. It's funny and stupid at times but there is a message under it all.
but that girl....she scares me

I don't want to give any spoilers - that takes away from some of the impact and fun. I'd just... let the wife know that the series is somewhat more insane than many other shows, and you don't know how weird it's going to get.
Because it IS going to get weird.
Just watched episode four and.......
And I say the only thing needed to make the scene more disturbing was a pinball machine.
But she is anxiously awaiting the next episode....

you should try Gakou Gurashi (School Live). It's a remarkably well done series. The mix of cute slice of life against survival horror is fantastic. The most recent episode in particular was heartbreaking, especially the subtle points like how they did the ending credits.

You mentioned end credit stuff and I thought of Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - the typical end credits was Yuuko singing that sad song of hers (Calendrier I think), but after the show ands an episode with her unable to recognize Techi, the end credit song plays but it's the empty window Yuuko sat in for the earlier credit scenes. That was the first time I had seen an end credit change without a season change, so it really stood out to me.

I've been devouring School Live tonight with reckless abandon.
I'm really enjoying that one as well..the sheer amount of mood whiplash in every episode makes it like a train wreck (in a good way...if a train wreck could ever be considered good), you know it can't end well but you can't look away.
Another one I've been watching is Charlotte..It started as a fairly odd ball show about kids with supernatural abilities, mostly humorous with occasional bits of seriousness...until episode 6&7 which is a double whammy tearjerker, especially for folks who have younger siblings.

So thanks to a friend of mine giving me a temporary Premium pass to Crunchyroll, I've been watching a lot more anime lately (and yeah, I'm probably going to end up subscribing now, darn it). One of the very first shows I watched was a thirteen-episode series called Campione!
...man did I ever choose poorly.
An action-harem show set in modern-day Earth, Campione's background is that the old gods from mythology - apparently every mythology - are real, and that every so often some among them will get upset with the status quo and try and change things to suit themselves, which usually causes massive disasters with tremendous loss of life for anyone in the surrounding area. When these "rogue gods" begin a rampage, there are people who are called on to stop them.
The "campione" are the foremost among these. Called "god-slayers," they can kill these old gods and take their powers for their own. The series follows a young man named Godou Kusanagi as he inadvertently becomes one of these campione, being the tale of the misadventures he (and the girls who chase after him) go through.
If that sounds like an interesting premise, then I agree that it is. The problem with the show isn't so much the premise as it is the execution. Watching Campione was like an object lesson in what happens if you cut too many corners: the entire thing becomes unable to support itself.
I'm tempted to blame this on the thirteen-episode format, but it's unclear to me that the show necessarily did so badly because it was pressed for time. As it stands, the show has an interesting dynamic for things like how, exactly, Godou fights various deities, and why he gets tangled up with so many women, but the presentation regarding why things work that way ends up being rushed. This, in turn, makes it seem like the plot is progressing in a way that only sort of makes sense.
For example, despite the power he gains in the show's debut, Godou's ability to fight deities is directly proportional to the "Words of Power" that he can invoke against them. This is apparently related to knowing the mythological development that a given deity has experienced over the ages, e.g. how their names, portfolios, and relationships have changed across time and cultures. He'll recite this when fighting an enemy god, and then just sort of smack them down. But it's never made entirely clear why his knowing that means that whatever deity he's fighting is suddenly so weakened. It just happens.
Moreover, you'd think that - since knowledge is literally power for Godou - he'd hit the books quite a lot (for whatever gods are local, at the very least), since his life tends to depend on what he knows when he gets into these fights. Except that's not the case; he instead relies on a cadre of women (most of whom belong to various organizations, and are trying to recruit him) who literally kiss the information into him...the explanation there being that campione are apparently immune to magic unless said magic is administered internally, so they'll use a "teaching spell" to imbue him with the requisite knowledge via a kiss.
Oh, and Godou will resurrect in about twelve hours or so if he's ever killed. I think that gets a one-line explanation tossed out at some point, but apparently it's not a big deal.
It's for these reasons that Campione wasn't a very engaging show. It's internal logic was never made entirely clear, and because of that it became hard to become invested in the show's action. While the idea of relying on the actual mythology of deities as being key to defeating them could have been cool, the show faltered with regard how that knowledge is useful in a fight, which is the most important aspect.
Even the show's harem aspect wasn't very interesting. There's supposed to be a sub-plot regarding whether or not the leading lady is trying to seduce him into working for her organization's goals or whether she genuinely cares about him, but the show fumbles this as well, since other than the main character's initial suspicions there's nothing to suggest that her motivations are done out of anything other than honest affection. The secondary female characters are supposed to have similar motivations - adding a layer of intrigue to the show's background - but again, this angle is never developed. Even as eye-candy the series fails to deliver, since the show keeps even the most soft-core fan-service hidden via camera angles.
Overall, Campione! is a series that desperately needed some divine intervention, but whose prayers were never answered.

If you are just starting on Crunchyroll, at the top of the page you will see a symbol that looks like a d6.
Push that and you get a random 1st episode. It's fun to give it a whirl if you can't make up your mind on what to watch next. Sometimes you strike gold, sometime you get dung, but it's worth the gamble

Rednal |

Campione is okay as a novel, but was not animated especially well. It knows that it's silly... but there are some fairly good parts (most of which, sadly, don't involve the protagonist).
On the bright side, at least everyone in that series recognizes his claims of "I'm just a normal person who enjoys peace!" as the nonsense it is. XD

Hm, this seems to depend on what device you use to access Crunchyroll. I'm getting it on my Wii U, and I can't find that option.
