Magic the Gathering "Kaalia of the Vast"

So I've been trying to build her. So far I have a tiefling half-celestial Master Summoner who takes the flight evolution with aspect to give her the second pair of wings. At level 10 when she gets aspect she has summon monster V which has some nice angel and demon summons. Unfortunatly there are NO dragon summons so I made her Eidolon the dragon. Any help and inspiration is very welcome. Here is what I have so far. Sorry if my formatting doesn't make sense. I added some other cr5-6 monsters to her SLA list to help with the flavor.

I'm pretty sure Kaalia would just be a very powerful Human cleric(of what I am unsure) her creature type implies no actual extra planar influence(at least not enough to change her type)

I do however think you're on the right track with everything else, It's quiet unfortunate that we don't even have Drake summons in order to have SOMETHING with the draconic subtype.

As for how you could provide her with the wings without being a half-whatever, you could have her possess the Eldritch heritage feats. I suppose though that they provide the same 'i have X in my blood' rather than simply being something she HAS. But feats are far more malleable than Race/Templates in regards to flavor or at least that's how it's always been for me.


So I just made her a Human/Half-celestial. I figure half-celestial doesn't cause as many physical changes as half-dragon or half-fiend. I also couldn't find any other way to get her proper angel wings before level 15 and I don't think shes that high level (only a 2/2). Here she is all done.

Even better: you could give her the Racial Heritage feat (Aasimar) to let her get Angelic Wings, and then let her take some levels in Dragon Disciple for the dragon wings (summoners can become DDs too).


Don't get more wings. Seriously, just don't. You can just describe your 'wings' ability, from whatever source, to appear as multiple sets.


Damn... It was a long time ago I played magic, but isn't that kind of a wicked card? I can see that being used in Extended (is it still called that? When it's like the last 5 years of cards?) as the centre of a whole deck, with fetch/spanklands and a few black searchers... If there are still any in the game as it is now. Getting those 8 mana creatures at turn 3-4 or so sounds nice.

Now I miss my Natural Order deck. Ah, the second round Verdant Force...


Kaalia is legal only in legacy, vintage and commander (aka elder dragon highlander), plus some misc obscure formats.

Not legal in standard (last year of core sets and blocks), extended (last three years of core sets and blocks) or modern (all core sets and blocks from 8th edition on).

Kaalia was printed in Commander, which sits outside of the conventional progression of sets and thus is not included in those formats.

Then, let her be an Aasimar with vestigial feathered wings. The second pair of (fully functional) wings can either come from Aspect or Dragon Disciple levels.

Alignment should be True Neutral, as she can summon both angels and fiends.

Silver Crusade

Nice writeup, as Umbral Reaver suggested, don't focus on the amazing visuals of the card illustration.

If you want to replicated how this card is usually used I got some suggestions:

since you can't easily acces higher level summon spells, go for masses of summoned creatures
spell perfection could be your friend, a quickened summon monster could be very effective
since “can't be target of spells or spell like abilities” from lightning greaves isn't an easy ability to get in pathfinder, SR is the next best thing, of course if you could somehow get your saves added to your saving throws,,
Blackfire aAdeüt could work for your concept
Inner Sea Magic allows you to enroll in Korovosa, one of the benefits of that school is that you can add creatures to you summon lists with comparable CR – now just add some nice creatures like vampire dragons, demon dragons.... I love that deck^^
