Now I will watch the video.
PS:I would suggest posting the rules here also. That way people don't have to watch the video if they forget something.,

Sean, first let me say its nice to see you back making videos. I was pleasantly surprised to see in my sub box a new outsiders after a couple months absence. I have learned quite abit from your gm tips videos as well as others from the RPG Brigade.
Im still fairly new to ttrpgs but after work tonight i will draw up a combatant and hopefully not get brained in the first round.
One thing you didnt mention, are animal companions allowed for the druid, ranger, and cleric? Anyway, hope you get a good turnout.
P.s. for those that dont know there is a pretty strong rpg community on youtube full of good people and good advice. I recommend checking it out.

What are the rules of engagement?
Initiative and go, or do you have prep/buff time before each fight?
I will run the combat as a video.
It will be iniative and go.
Rules will be as the core book.
I will allow some time between fights how much I am still debating so characters being able to heal themselves will be useful.
There will be no spells cast before a fight starts to keep things honest but after that anything goes.
Equipment is for a fith level character as per the core book.
Any further questions email me Sean.connors68@me.com
Hope you decide to submit a character and maybe do a video about them come on pathfinder fans show me how ingenious you can be.
Happy gaming Sean

Forgot to add no familiars!
Zephyre Al'dran |
You mention no familiars. I assume that includes animal companions, but does it include summoned creatures? Need to know as this would severly nerf a Druid build.
Are you also limiting Item Creation feats? Scribe scroll, Craft Potion, Craft Arms & Armor & Craft Wonderous Items are all allow in core book, and while they may not all be tremedously useful in a fight but it could lead to the extra resources needed to win.
Are traits legal? These are typically used in everyday Pathfinder Play, but are not found in the core book.
outsiders68 |
No traits sorry
You can use item creation feats if you want of coarse.
There will be no spell casting before the fight.
You will just have to work on the worst scenario premise.
I agree full healing and spells recovered after each fight makes sense given my rules on no spells before.
Also no animal companions but you could if you can get it of summon a creature.
Good luck

Hi crysknife ,
Only using core book.
You can use anything from that.
You also have 32 point buy to build your character and 10,500 gp to purchase equipment.
It's will be like gladiator battle I will be doing the battles as a series of video's on my YouTube site theoutsiders68.
My hope is to get at least sixteen people but it could be 32 the ay it's going which is great.
You can't have any animal companions or spells up before a fight but once it starts anything goes.
Basically any questions just ask
Post character to Sean.connors68@ me.com
And good luck

I'm considering this, but I have a few questions.
What ends the match? Is it only going below 0 HP? Can you "concede" the match? Is falling asleep or other forms of helplessness another way to lose, or would a coup de grace need to happen? I'm mostly wondering if an Enchantment Wizard is viable.
I can answer this. Sean has mentioned that this fight will be to the death!! below zero hitpoints is the name of the game. I don't think you can concede the match. Good question about helplessness. That would suck to get in to a match "fall asleep" and then be helpless for the kill. I would say that build is definitly viable

Level 5 wraith
Indivar |
What is the arena like? a level 5 wizard vs a lvl 5 fighter 30' away is an init roll from death...We have had this debate for 20+ years and it is still true - up close, mage unfavored, from afar, mage favored. As the above poster hinted, if we know the arena ( is it domed? plants around? how far apart? difficult terrain/water? random arena per match?)
Also, do you know what you are fighting before hand? prepping spells to suit the opponent would be critical.
outsiders68 |
This is a gladiator match no prepared spells.
Iniative and go.
I am giving nothing away about the battle ground you have to use your wisdom and skill to build the best build you can.
Don't dismiss it till you give it a go?
Trust me many have signed up and the builds are very varied.
Any further information you need please read the whole post or email me direct Sean.connors68@me.com
Kind regards
Sean

I think i will submit the winning build tomorrow, atm i am studying for an exam (its tomorrow) but after it i should be able to squeeze out a build, hope i am not to late because i have something seriously off the wall in mind. :)
Also is potions or other consumables allowed? and if so then how would they work (only one fight or for every fight).
Jarleth |
Taking away animal companions (and to a lesser degree famaliars) hurt those classes. Also know who I will be fighting does impact my choice of spells to memorize which is the point of Indivar's questions which you clearly misunderstood. I have no problem with not having that knowledge it will just require a wider list of memorized spells. I'll think about posting something after tomorrow's finals.
Darksmokepuncher |
Sean,
You said you'd be running games via YouTube "to the best of your ability."
Does this mean that you will run both gladiators tactically and in terms of role play while the community watches, or will you post videos for the contestants to respond to?
I think the later would be very time consuming, but I'd be interested to see how it comes off.
cranewings |
I'm kind of sad: I've thought a bit about the challenge and I came up with unsatisfactory solutions. I'll submit soon the one less boring, I guess. I'll see if others were able to come up with more interesting ideas.
Well, the fact of the matter is we don't know what kind of environment he is going to give us, or how random the opponent selection will be. I really like the character I made, but admit certain environments could own him.
