To RP / Build a Strix

Advice

Scarab Sages

I've been poking around the Wiki and such trying to find info on the strix race. I want to play one soon, but they don't seem to be very well documented. All I was able to find is where they live and the fact that they hate humans.

So, how on earth do I come up with a hook for one of these to go adventuring with a human (or more than one possibly)? There's good tension there for some RP, but the strix seem to be cornered as human hunters, essentially. Is there lore that I'm missing?

Just need some advice: How would you play a Strix? Focusing on Hook, but I wouldn't mind some class/build suggestions connected with said hooks. If someone has some insight on the race and how they operate in a party I'd be grateful for that as well.

Probable campaign info:

Spoiler:

Occurring around a central town as a kind of Hub with adventures happening in the surrounding country. Neutral to good oriented campaign. No 3PP/3.x/Fan-made allowed.

The easiest way to play this type of character is as an iconoclast, someone who secretly or openly and obviously defies the traditional traits and characteristics of your race (an orc bard who writes beautiful poetry or an elf barbarian who acts like an animal).

In any case you can play up some of the other traits mentioned in the creatures description. Strix are slow to trust and easy to anger, you could be deeply reserved, perhaps even ashamed of your heritage, or you could be proud and overly boisterous about your superiority to other races, reminded them of your wings and ability to fly most of all. They're also stubborn, so once you set your mind on something make sure it takes exceptional measures to change your perspective.

Hope that helps a little, there really isn't a lot to go on, you're right.

Thankyou, Jorda. That's one idea that crossed my mind. The other is to be an outcast, but that would require extensive back-story and more info on Strix culture than I think we have. I know they operate as one extended tribe, but nothing much is said beyond that.

The lack of info on a race that they officially stat out as a PC option race is really bugging me. Maybe they'll expand on them with the upcoming races book.

I sure hope so, I've already got my pre-order in, ha ha. For now I would suggest you be as free with it as your GM allows, you could simply make up a tribal culture of your own, perhaps he was cast out for not passing some crucial test, or even something as simple as a birthmark or odd color of eyes could have been an ill omen and he was left to die in the wilderness.
