I'm glad I was able to toss in a pledge before the deadline this afternoon and throw some support for a fellow Ohioan. :)

Question: Will this campaign setting be available in downloadable format only, bound as a book, or will you have both options?

Also, I know you folks just hit your mark for funding but could you give us a rough estimate as to when the first glimpses of your project will be ready for play testing? I know you said you still need to get the website up and running.

It will most likely be available in both forms, but PDF will be the most common version we will have available moving forward.

Playtesting will commence throughout the summer. Our $150+ backers get first crack at playtesting, and then all of our others backers shortly after that, then to the public in the final stages. We won't get our fundings for a couple more weeks, so a rough estimate as to when playtests will begin is June or early July.

Can I ask what exactly will we be playtesting? This is PFRPG compatible, so what is in this that needs to be playtested? New mechanics, the steampunk items, if the setting itself makes sense, monster abilities, new classes? Is this to determine if the steampunk items/abilities are too overpowering, underpowered, just right? Will your website support playtest boards, or will we be reporting them to the paizo boards?

Yes, we will be playtesting for all of that.

Yes, our new website will have our own forums for playtesting purposes.

Curses! Missed it by a day =(

Sign-up for Kickstarter and start friending others you know through it to follow so you get notification of what they pledged for so you can see if it's something for you. That's how I'm beginning to discover such things.

Conveniently, if you have friends on Facebook who are also on Kickstarter, that can be identified easier for you.

But I realize that some people prefer to remain luddites and I respect that. But sometimes, a compromise needs to be made in order to gain access to awareness about the things that may appeal to you that you may not find unless you put some legwork into it.

I'm lazy. So I just get notified as to what my friends are up to.

It is a pretty nifty way to see what is new or popular if you can't check kickstarter everyday.

Sorry for thread Necromancy...

A general question to anyone out there that funded PURE STEAM on kickstarter or anyone involved in the design/development process of this product: Has there been any additional information released since early June of 2012, shortly after they reached full funding.

I ask because I have not seen any further updates on their website or their message board. Even the kickstarter page has updated recently.

Any information would be appreciated.

Seconded.

I asked in the comments on the Kickstarter page for updates and received this reply:

"We are polishing up the playtest; it should be in the hands of our high-end backers VERY soon!"

Thanks for the update. I just have one thing to say: This is the same answer that was given almost 2 months ago on June 9th. I'm not trying to be short or impatient but this seems like a cut, copy, paste & edited answer to your question.

Can they give us any reason as to why there has been such a long delay from June.

I understand the High End backers paid a lot of money to get certain perks, like first crack at the play testing. If its behind in development then I understand that.

I, and I'm sure there's other like me, were just waiting for the open play test for the rest of the public. Now we're finding out that the High End backers may not have even had a chance to play test it, and there has been no communication on kick starter or their forum since early June, which means we may not even get a shot the play testing until September.

So we're curious as to why there has been such a delay, when the material will be released to the high end backers and an approximate time as to when those materials will become open to the public for play testing.

Not trying to be rude, just been waiting for 2 months, anticipating this product.

Thanks
AK

Ergh, I hate reading these updates.

I have the worst luck with Kickstarter Project follow-throughs. I've only gotten one that made completion. At least three I'm currently on right now have semi-frequent updates and one of them happens to be in the same town and is a friend of mine.

I went to the Kickstarter page and 'seconded' Brian's request.

You are having a bad run. :/

I know a Japanese based horror themed campaign setting that is a pretty good bet. :D

On other fronts, there was another Pure Steam update this morning.

For what its worth, I'm not too worried about this one yet. Turnaround for an rpg book in the works should be somewhere between 3-9 months in my opinion. Longer than that and I put it on the back burner of expectations, but this one has been less than 3 months at this point.

We apologize deeply for keeping you guys in the dark on this. Ever since the project funded, we have been working on putting together our Alpha playtest for backers, as well as bringing content together for our Beta playtest for the public.

At the same time, however, almost our entire development team has undergone major life happenings; engagements, weddings, relocation, adoptions, births of children, taking on second jobs, and traveling. These events have been the primary factor in our project's delay and news blackout. This is a secondary project for the entire development team, as we aren't full-time developers (yet).

As posted earlier, here is an update posted on our Kickstarter page, pretty much saying the same thing.

Rest assured, the project is not dead. We have gotten much of the alpha playtest together for our backers, and should have it out to them in the next couple of weeks. Once we have collected our alpha feedback, we then hope to have our Beta playtest released sometime in September (which will be hosted here on Paizo).

The Alpha playtest will include:
- A 1st-Level module set in the Pure Steam campaign world of Ullera. It will feature anarchist shootouts, clockwork foes, vehicle encounters, a train encounter, and ticking time-bombs.
- Pure Steam artwork.
- The new Chaplain base class. A character who's charisma has the power to both inspire allies and demoralize foes. Something akin to a divine bard. A chaplain's association further defines their abilities; battle-field physicians, trade tycoons, spiritual icons, squad leaders, spies, and more.
- Several new archetypes.
- New feats.
- And more.

We hope to include much more in our Beta playtest.

We are also working with our website designer to get the official forums up and running for playtest feedback and general Pure Steam discussions. When they are fully functional, I will let you guys know.

I personally just want to thank you guys again for your support and your patience. Developing this project is truly a passion for us (me especially), and we are very excited for you guys to play it and give us feedback.

Thank you for the update. We understand that life gets involved. Just let us know that life is happening. It beats silence. :)

P.S. Congrats on the positive life changes!

About this part of the kickstarter $250 backer (not me) reward:

Also, you'll get a seat at the exclusive feedback gaming table with the developers at GenCon Indy or Origins (your choice). We'll run a game just for you and other $250 and $500 backers! We'll consider your feedback face-to-face and incorporate your suggestions into our release!
Est. delivery: Aug 2012

Origins has already passed and GenCon Indy is next week. Is there going to be a feedback gaming table at GenCon Indy for the (one) $250 backer to sit at since there has not been a release, alpha or beta?

Will there be a pure steam gaming table there? I have a friend going who also happens to be a big steam punk fan. Even if he could not get in a game I would like to point him that way so he can possibly watch and tell me what he thinks.

Thanks.

Yes! We will be at GenCon Indy this week on Friday, the 17th, all day. We do not have a table, but we will be set up in the Open Play area. You can check our Twitter (@PureSteamRPG) on Friday to find out exactly where we'll be.

We will be available for questions and will have a couple of rough drafts of the alpha playtest for people to look through. If we have enough people at one time, we hope to run through a couple of encounters of our playtest module.

We hope to see some of you there!

Thanks.

The Alpha Playtest has been sent out to all of our qualified backers. We will be giving our backers about two to three weeks to provide us with feedback before we begin compiling our public beta test.

Projected release for the public beta playtest is late September to mid-October. Stay tuned!

Congrats! A few of us here at AG backed you folks. I however missed it by two days. So I am anxious for the public beta.

Quick update guys, we are still hard at work getting our public beta playtest together. We are currently in the development of the Gearhead base class, one of the two headlining base classes in our campaign setting.

The Gearhead is a steam punk technosavant. His key class feature is his contraptions; weird science devices that supernaturally emulate the effects of magical spells, much like wands. A gearhead's other abilities revolve around innovating technology (armor, weapons, vehicles, and his contraptions), as well as his engineering expertise.

We are also currently developing new creatures, such as non-magical golems and scientifically reanimated zombies.

Stay tuned for future updates as we still have a good amount of content in the pipeline for development.

Do you have a link to buy this PDF/Hardcover?
looks spiffy.

This is not released yet - so links have to wait. :)

Our products will be hosted here on Paizo's website when they are released. We are pushing hard to get the public beta released within the next couple of months.

Any way to sign up as a playtester? I have two groups that would be interested in a setting like this.
One I'd run and another I'd like to play in.

Seconded!

The public beta will be posted here on Paizo as well. I will make an announcement here when it is. Stay tuned!

Quick update. Alpha playtest has concluded, so we are attempting to wrap up and polish the beta playtest. Also, our sculptor has completed our first mini out of our initially planned two. Preview can be seen here.

We are also trying to come up with a list of mundane items that add a little more steam punk flair to our world. Some current items included pocket watches, spectacles (normal and multi-lens), mining hat with lamp, and a compass.

Feel free to contribute your own ideas to the list!

The Pure Steam playtest is live and free to download. Please test it out and tell us what you think!

We have forums set up for your feedback.

Thanks guys, and full steam ahead!

Can anyone download the playtest anymore? Not working for me.

Unfortunately, our public playtest has concluded. If you send me a private message, we may be able to work something out.

PM sent!

any word on when this book will see my bookshelf? Im sure its been asked before, but I just now stumbled upon it

Testing... is this thing on?

I bought the PDF a while ago, no idea about hard copies. I do love the book though and will be stealing a lot from it for my own games.

@jimibones83 - I must have missed this at the beginning of December, my apologies!

We just sent everything to the printer yesterday. It was a tedious process, as we had to make a few revisions in our book and rebuild our front/back covers to fit their template. All goes well, books should be printed by end of January, and will be available for sale shortly after.

@Hark - Glad you love the book!

I'm glad to hear you're making print versions; I'll need to grab myself a copy.

This setting is great and I can see the effort put into it was extensive. Leveling with you I normally hate the idea of steampunk: it usually feels tacked on to try and make a setting feel 'original', despite everything using it nowadays, and it often just comes off as a artificial addition (in a not awesome way). However Pure Steam doesn't give me that feeling- the steampunk fits Ullera naturally (in an ironic way I suppose). Keep up the good work.
