Enlarge Spell Eidolons

Does anyone know if the spell Enlarge Person effects a Biped Eidolon?

Through the wonders of the share spells feature, if the spell is cast by the summoner the answer is yes.

It appears you can, because of the 1st level ability granted to eidolons called Share Spells(Ex). Perhaps there is an over-riding rule somewhere I am missing, but I don't think so.

Oh, and it is not limited to biped eidolons.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

To be clear, if not cast by the Eidolon's summmoner, the answer is no. Enlarge Person (sans Share Spells) only affects creatures of the humanoid subtype. So no potions, wands, or other casters could affect it.

The problem is that Share Spells says "The summoner may cast a spell with a target of “you” on his eidolon (as a spell with a range of touch) instead of on himself"

The problem that my group brought up is that Enlarge Person is "Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)"

A summoner may cast spells on his eidolon even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the eidolon’s type (outsider).<-
Spells cast in this way must come from the summoner spell list.

This ability does not allow the eidolon to share abilities that are not spells, even if they function like spells.

Just trying to emphasize the right part.

Each is a separate statement, you may cast any spell from the summoners list, including those with a target of "you" on your eidolon

You have only read the first sentence of Share Spells. Here is the complete text, bolding mine:

Share Spells wrote:

The second sentence is fairly clearly referring to all spells, no matter what target type the spell uses.

Just to clear up one other potential point of confusion from the OP - it doesn't matter what body type an eidolon has, it is still always considered an outsider and never considered a humanoid. "Humanoid" is a game term that refers to a specific group of creatures, and not just to anything with that body plan. Aasimar, for example, look almost exactly like humans, but are Outsiders, not humanoids. Similarly, a Zombie is an Undead, a Nymph is a Fey, and a Medusa is a Monstrous Humanoid, even though they also have human-like body plans. All are unaffected by spells like "hold person" and "enlarge person", even though they have humanoid body plans.
