Political and civil engagement survey

Hi everyone!

One of my students is completing a project for her Higher School Certificate on how GEN-Y differs on political and civil engagement. She is conducting an online survey and needs as many participants as possible. Especially from Australia.

The project is worth 40% of her final mark for this course and she has done a lot of work to get this survey going. If you could spare a minute of your time to complete the survey, it is found here, your participation will help immensely.

Thank you!

EDIT: Fixed link!

Fixed it for ya

Sometimes you've got to put the quotation marks in or the link won't work.

I couldn't make it in to the polling place to vote, mate! I was attacked by a goanna!

Sovereign Court

Should question six be a radio button or a check box? Seems like there could be more than one answer.

I wasn't aware it was compulsory in Australia, either. Interesting to know.

Especially with the last question on the survey ... as I suspect a number of us can't get involved there because a lot of us may not be Australian citizens.

But hey, I understand the importance of getting these surveys filled out to fulfill a grade. Have to do such for my sociology class.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Not being an Aussie citizen never stopped me from pretending drop bears were real.

Thank you to everyone!

Just curious; what do they do if you don't vote?

Silver Crusade

You are fined!

What happens if I do not vote?

Initially the Australian Electoral Commission will write to all apparent non-voters requesting that they either provide a reason for their failure to vote or pay a $20 penalty.

If, within 21 days, the apparent non-voter fails to reply, cannot provide a valid and sufficient reason or declines to pay the penalty, then prosecution proceedings may be instigated. If the matter is dealt with in court and the person is found guilty, he or she may be fined up to $50 plus court costs.

Democracy is a responsibility not privilege - Everybody that can participate should.

You are free to register your disgust at the quality of candidates by leaving your ballots blank or donkey voting or graffiti-ing the paper and so on.

also

The sausage sizzles at the voting booths are good.

Interesting.

I like it.

Especially the bit about snausages.

Last time I went to vote I received a free bacon and egg roll with a coffee. Now that was an incentive to vote!

Well, that is the long way of saying it!

Any favourite fake write-in candidates in Rooland? Up here (Sweden) there's traditionally been a lot of people casting a vote for the Donald Duck party. (We don't have compulsory voting, but last election's turnout of slightly above 80% is considered worryingly low. Back before the noughties, voter-turnout used to be a bit above 90%)

In Poland King Julien acquired great popularity as an "alternate" presidential candidate during the last emergency elections.

During the last regular elections (2005) voting for Donald Duck would be controversial because both main candidates: (our current prime minister) Donald Tusk and his political opponent, the winer of those elections and later deceased in plane crash Lech Kaczynski were jokingly considered associated (while Mr. Kaczynski family name probably has different origins, accidentally "kaczy" in Polish happens to be adjective form kaczka - duck, which was source of lots of nicknames and jokes, and still is when it comes to his twin brother Jaroslaw).

Neither we have... Last elections saw 17 million votes. Out of 30 millions entitled.
