Ok, I'm pretty new to Pathfinder, but I now have Andoran "Spirit of Liberty" in my hands. I love the feel of the country, but (and I know there is only so much room per page) I was wondering about the University of Almas.
It mentions lessons in bladework and callisthenics daily, but I have more questions. I'm assuming that it teaches philosophy, political and economic theory, perhaps the natural sciences, that sort of thing.
1) Does it have the University District all to itself, or are there more academies and the like sharing that same district with it?
2) Does it teach magic? The dueling blades and the like seem to indicate more martial than magical training.
3) Is the dueling encouraged by the university, or simply something that has occurred on the side? Are their paper tiger rules against it?
4) How much would tuition cost?
5) Beyond the knowledge itself that might be learned (A prize to be sure), are there any other benefits in Andoran society from having attended? Is it expected of those who wish to join the political process?
I realize the answer maybe "Well, you're the GM, do what you WANT to do with it" but if there is official mention in other sources about same I'd love to hear it, as well as just opinions of those who know the setting better than I and have already used it in their games.

Well the wiki says that Jalus Ebincott is the Professor of Mwangi Studies there (From Vaults of Madness, p. 60) But that is the only other reference I can find right now. I'll try to do a PDF search when I get home to see if there are any other references.

This is very much appreciated, thank you!

There is very little extant canon information on Almas University, Ridge. The info in "Andoran, Spirit of Liberty" is pretty much all there is about the university itself. As Cpt_kirstov mentions, Jalus Ebincott is referred to in "Vaults of Madness" (part of the Serpent's Skull AP) and there is also a mention of a self-important don named Chulo Varotien from AU in the Pathfinder Society scenario "Web of Corruption", but neither entry reveals anything further about the institution itself.
EDIT: Oh, and "Guide to Korvosa" also mentions that members of House Leroung are important at AU as well.

PFWiki,
I was thinking that might be the case, but still wanted to be sure. I'd still be happy with any conjectures from those more experienced with the setting than I am, naturally. So any ideas I can rip off...err "be inspired by" are welcome ;)
At this point, the mention of dueling has given me visions of young musketeers in training (Despite the fact that there's no 'king' to protect, obviously). I may embrace that flavor, more or less, add to it a healthy dose of non violent education and see if I can't get an adventure or two for my players if they ever visit it.

Ridge,
In case you need some inspiration from RL in regards to students who take up fencing and other martial passtimes, you might take a look at the German "Studentenverbindung" tradition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studentenverbindung), which is probably where the inspiration for that part of AU came from. They're pretty different from U.S. fraternities.

I assume that's where a lot of Maguses might trace their roots.
Ah, The Living Force Campaign. Good ol' Cularin System....

I was hoping that Almas would get a passing mention in Episode 3 when the Purge is started. I ran a Jedi from Almas who managed to end his career without killing a single sentient being. He gave up his life to redeem the Oblee from a Dark Force prison and was declared a Jedi Knight posthumously (I was one anthill away from 7th level when the module started)

Sounds like I should consider getting the Advanced player's guide sooner rather than later

Maguses don't make their entry until Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat also has a lot of magus material. enough to be almost mandatory.
