It says "your purchase helps" but I'm not sure its all the money.
I think its nice that they finally contribute to the Gygax memorial.
Its too bad that they seemed to marginalize Gary during his living years, and ignore his contributions to gaming by distancing themselves from Gary at GENCON.
I like that its seems gamers respect for Gary is finally being heard by WotC. The memorial, afterall, is for all of us, and although I am estranged from WotC - we are all gamers afterall. Its equally nice to see WotC change their "bad boy" personna (the one that used to make fun of gamers during GENCON speaches) into one that shows a little heart and respect.
Is the OGL included in the reprint? 4e was not OGL, but if they wish to mend broken fences with the community, an Open Game Licence with 1e/2e material would certainly decrease much of the enmity and friction generated by the GSL.

I'd buy it, but I know I won't get any use out of it.

This is interesting, though my 1E books are actually in surpisiningly good shape considering how much they were used.
Would be a better idea if they also made the pdf's of old versions available again...

Yeah, those were some durable books. Except for Unearthed Arcana -- that one fell apart almost instantly.

Actually I think I got one of the better ones as mine didn't fall apart like many others did, it still in excellent shape.
Now I want to run some 1E adventures...

I want this very much, but it might be a bit too expensive, especially since I already have a copy of all of the books they're offering. I really wish they'd release the original boxed set as well.
When are these reprints due to be released?
Yep, the info page for them says April 17th, though it does not says if that is the date they go on sale in gaming stores or if it is the date they ship out to the stores. Though since they are supposed to only be available at retail stores and not online, I would think it is the date the stores would put them out on the shelves.
So far the info I've gathered is the AD&D 1st edition reprints of the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manuel will be released via hobby stores on April 27th, 2012. Also they are going to release a new Drow city of Menzoboranzen campaign book, and Elminster's Forgotten Realms campaign book. If the sales for these books are good enough, they will consider reprinting some more stuff from campaigns, continuing campaign storylines and etc...Rest assured the books are exact reprints from the original core books, the only thing different is the new covers, and new sales adds in the back of the book. These are exciting times for D&D fans, with more than enough options and versions of the game to make several diverse gamers happy.
Well, the Menzobarranzen book is for 4th edition, and Elminster's Forgotten Realms is not based on any edition. It is compiled from a lifetime of Ed Greenwood's notes on the setting, so there may be a few minor things in it that are edition-specific, but that is it.

Ed's Realms is as system-neutral as possible. I believe that it was acknowledged at DDXP over the weekend that there will be a handful of edition-specific references in it, if only because Ed's games actually used rules.
I haven't seen any indication that Menzoberranzan will be edition-neutral. I expect it will be a 4e book.
