Oh, why not.

Elegy Medvyed

Spoiler:

Race/Sex/Class: Female Human Spellscar Oracle
Age: Early twenties
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 116lb

Physical Appearance
A young fair skinned woman in her early twenties, her build is slender but athletic. Her eyes are a light brown, nearly amber, and hold in them a slight glint of madness. Her jet-black hair, carefully braided, falls to her mid-back, though several rebellious strands of hair poke haphazardly free.

Equipment
Elegy looks the part of upper class trying very hard to look unassuming and touristy. She typically wears a very finely made tunic of gray-blue, a long skirt of somewhat lesser quality and high boots, both gray, with thick blue leggings beneath for modesty. Due to the current poor weather, she also wears a blue scarf and fur-lined green coat and gloves with a fur muffler hat. She carries a light crossbow.

Pose and Other
There is a very strong self-confidence underlying every action she takes. Perhaps she's in the middle of casting a spell?

Argh, I can't help it... I want another pic. Beware the long description. First 2 paragraphs are just background information, but might help in figuring out a look.

Wickard Worreck Wyvernjack:

(Human Wizard/Shadowcaster/Noctumancer)

Wyvernjack, as he was more frequently called, hailed from the mageocracy of Halruua in Faerun, where he was a popular mage duelist (after this point, FR fanatics would call blasphemy, but just work with me here). His forethought and planning seemed uncanny, and was prepared for nearly every move his opponent made. His counterspelling skills were hard to match. Rumors abound regarding whether he gets pricey divinations and subterfuge for knowledge of his opponents' spellbooks and strategies (not likely, as his family line was a minor branch of the much more influential DragonJack clan).

He did have many secrets, but he never crossed the line for a match, until one crucial battle. Nearly lost, and out of options, his opponent threw a massive spell to finish the battle decisively, he absorbed the spell energy and emitted a silver glow (he had Mystra's silver fire, and in 3.5 it can be used to effectively counterspell, but he didn't use it until that moment, and in-game, never again). Naturally, he knew he needed to escape. Escape he did, but that doesn't mean he was lost forever (King of Halruua being the best diviner in the realm as far as I know). Constantly on the run, from old friends to new enemies, his knack for slipping through and living on has made more of a name for him than his dueling prowess.

Wyvernjack is a duelist with a duality. His wizard half, and his shadowcaster half (which, in the ToM, used the Shadow Weave. Silver Fire on top for serious FR blasphemy. Noctumancer is the theurge prestige of the two, specializing in, of course, counterspelling). A man in his late 20s, he looks older than he is. His frequent, often frantic travels left him hardened yet malnourished, with shadow magic taking its own toll on him. Always wearing dark yet free-flowing clothing, preferring black, accented by small bits of electrum jewelry. He has glasses that had lenses made from minerals from the plane of shadow (collected himself; frame also electrum). His eyes are a bright gray, and his black hair is typically worn back.

As far as a pose might go, anything showing how he competently wields two very different forms of magic would do, with one colorful, eldritch spell and one very dark, shadowy spell. If there's room for him casting a shadow, make note that his shadow would be in a completely different pose than he is in.

Thanks again for the pics, these are fantastic.

@Orthos: Well I'm not allergic to money and I do have a Tip jar on my Deviantart page, I also added an link in my profile now. :)

This one was a bit tricky. I'm afraid I didn't get the romance novel feel into him. And also the Muscles are pretty much hidden. ^^° Hope this Amontillado is still acceptable.

I like him a great deal. Though my first thought was how sort of resembled the character of one of my players. At least he doesn't wield a shovel like that character

Considering some of the loot I gave my players last session was a +1 Adamantine Shovel, I got a chuckle out of this. Though now I'm glad they sold it to the village they were in instead of wielding it.

Well you still did him proud :)

You could trust him with your life, but not your money nor your wife!

Really great work, Ruloc!

Most of your character portraits seem to have the same yellow-orange-ish color tint. (Not in a bad way, but noticeable if you look at enough of them) Do you do this intentionally, to make all of these portraits appear to belong together? Or is it a side effect of the way you work to do these quickly? How do you go about choosing colors? Is it coincidence that the tint matches skin-color? (I.e. how difficult would it be to give a picture an overall green tint without making people on it appear green-skinned?)

(The reason I am asking is that I am looking for some tips. I am a hobbyist artist myself and I am struggling with colors.)

Cortland is completely pleased with his portrait. Very cool, thanks so much for all the hard work on this.

I'll put a new request at the back of the list, another character of mine called Jericho Korben, not a fantasy character though. You do non-fantasy?

EDIT: Also, me and my friends have a little disposable income and a hankerin' to get some character portraits. Would a small (3-5 dollar) donation get a rush job on a character? We'd all be happy to sponsor an artist.

Thank you. :)

That's mainly a side effect of the way I work on these sketches. I always start with the same yellow-brownish Background which has a gradient from top to bottom with an brightness between 70% to 50%.
For the first scribble I only pick the lightest and darkest colors of that BG and so it tends to get monochromatic.
After that Scribble is done I use an exposure adjustment layer to adjust the Gamma and add color via color and/or overlay Layers. From that I start the final coloring.

If you want an overall green tint you probably have to mask out the character to avoid their skin being influenced. Or you can start off right away with an green background.

Truth be told I also have a lot of difficulties with colors. I started out using only pencil and later sticked to anime style, which didn't need much color blending or realistic shading.

Best way might be starting right off with an colored scribble.

Ok, I have to admit I stopped checking in regularly, but I come back to alot of simply marvelous work getting done including a PERFECT rendering of my character. Thank you very much and I'll be sure to get a couple more characters decided on and descriptions/history added to get back on the list =).

Really great work and I'm kinda glad you left off the problematic bottom half of that coat, in the series it's a little wierd at times.

Well worth the time spent. Very cool picture, and the blue background provides a 'sky' feeling very appropriate for the character.

Love that hair, too.

Sorry, Ninjaotic, it's a winged Samurai. You can tell because he's visible. Winged ninja's hide in front of the sun.

Just a note on Yance's beard: He keeps it trimmed to about 1 - 1 1/2 inches long. He could be Jeremiah Johnson's brother.

As a matter of fact my player does. He is a Sorcerer (undead vampire bloodline)/fighter. By his own words he kills them and then buries them. He says its all very efficient that way

I just want to reiterate what everyone else is saying: your work is amazing! I am quite excited to see how future pictures turn out. (It's almost as exciting to see everyone else's as I am for my own).

I did want to ask, I had Akilah and Zalura for mine, but on the primary and secondary lists, Zalura is mentioned in both places rather than Akilah for one of them?

Thanks again for all your work!

I'd like to request art for this character.

Axis:
Axis looks like a tall and slim half-elf, with little black horns curving backwards from his forehead. His skin has the paleness of death, and his long hair is a pearly white-silver. His eyes are completely black, and when angered they glow like burning coal. He doesn't wear much jewelery: a delicate white gold and platinum circlet with saphires of clearly elven craftsmanship, a simple silver and pearl earring, the signet ring of the Vannya family and a silver ring with a row of small diamonds. He always has the ebon holy simbol of Freya his long dead mother gave him when he was little as a necklace, alongside a carved medallion of blessed mahogany. He wears elegant elvencrafted court finery of pure white with silver embroidery of leaves and butterflies. His familiar Cernan (a lyrakien azata) is never far from him, usually sitting on his shoulder, perching on his head or resting in his backpack. Cernan has dark skin, bright green hair in a ponytail, solid golden eyes and wings resembling those of a queen alexandra's birdwing. He wears a short linen tunic and white leather pants.

Incredible.

I think I stared at my computer, dumbstruck, for at least a minute upon seeing this. It's exactly what I was looking for. You, sir, are an extremely talented artist.

Thanks again for doing this.

Just want to point out that we actually used Ruloc's art piece of Vaidan Cross in Wayfinder #7, for our Pyromancy article by Ryan Costello, Jr.

Ruloc was pretty busy with our cover art, and I was browsing his sketchbook and saw this piece and thought, "OMG...that's PERFECT."

Also, as I see Ruloc doing the bulk of the drawing here, if you are an artist looking for a chance to show off those skillz to a bigger audience, please consider volunteering for Wayfinder. I am always looking for new artists.

Wow, that is beautiful and amazing. Your artwork just keeps getting better. I wish to thank you for doing this it's very generous and glad to see you getting some work published. Just wondering would it be helpful to put a more concise description of my PC Midori?

Liberty's Edge

@DSXMachina: Sure! There's no such thing as too much information. The more details you can give me the better.

I'm loving the work that's been posted so far and I can't wait to see your illustration of Girruth. I have another character that I'd like to add to the secondary list. Keider Paol

Keider Paol:
Physical description: Medium height with a slender build. Short unruly brown hair. Left arm carries a chaotic jumble of black and red runes. The tattoos seem to twist and swirl when he moves. Both shoulder blades bear an intricate raven.
Description of armor: Wears a mithral shirt that is crisscrossed with numerous straps. Has a leather pauldron on his left shoulder with a strap running down to his right hip. Another strap running from that strap up over his right shoulder. Metal bracers on his forearms. Thick belt around his waist. Wears knee high soft leather boots. Also wears a stiffened woolen great coat of a dark blue color with red piping around the collar and cuffs. Has a tricorner hat that he wears pulled low in the front to shade his eyes. Constantly smoking a pipe.
Weapons: Dueling sword on left hip. Four throwing knives on his belt. Four throwing knives attached to strap running across his chest which also has loops for small items (potion vials or more knives). Dagger in wrist sheath on left forearm. Stiletto on right hip. Cinqueda across small of back. Knife in boot sheath.
