Your Favorite Evil Cleric Build?

I have need of 2 evil clerics of a deity of Fire and Corruption for tomorrow night. It was an improvised encounter, so I used the generic ones out of the GameMastery Guide.

The party does not have a dedicated arcane caster, just a bomb-flinging goblin and a cleric of a different fire god. (an insane fire god whose physical manifestation make you go blind or burns you to death... very Cthuloid, what with his mad dreams guiding his deluded priesthood....but I digress)

So the party is 4th level, but there are more characters than normal. 7 when they all show up for a APL of I figure about 6 or 7.

So one High Priest of about 7 and an under-priest of probably 6. The remainder of the encounter is filled out with level 1 and 2 worshippers and acolytes of various stripes.

What do you like for the two main clerics? Keep in mind the high priest masquerades as a good guy when he's not culting the joint up at night.

I don't need full builds... just ideas...I'll jump into Hero Lab later and bang out the actual statblocks.

The Exchange

Make the High priest someone who looks quite harmless, and at the right time just make him explode. Figuretivly, of course. Make him sit until the fight is over, and when the PCs are busy looting bodies... FIREBALL!!! That might be what some of us call overkill, but they did just kill his cult... Fire Domain gives him Fireball, or he could be a Fire Wizard, that would kill any hopes of hurting him with fire(Like with a bomb or a Fire Bolt).

The under-priest could use a special weapon that makes it seem like he is the real leader. If the High Priest is supposed to be a Good guy, and the party doesn't know it, then all the better for you.

Also, keep cultists coming out of hallways for a while. 3 level 1-2 Commoners every other round will keep them busy for a while. 6 rounds of torture will do quite nicely.

Make them dhampirs or give them their second domain as death (whichever one eventually heals you with negative energy). I did that once and focused them on channel and they killed the party by themselves on accident. Didn't mean to, it's just so much win when you're healing your side at the same time as hurting theirs en masse.


CE battle cleric of Lamashtu, with the demon and trickery domains (many people dislike trickery). Uses eldritch heritage feats to get claws. You never know what this guy is going to do as he is sort of insane.


I built a cleric of Asmodeus once, with the fire and trickery domains. Everyone said WHY IS THE WIZARD WEARING SO MUCH ARMOR?


I always go for the Undead Lord archetype, not exactly in keeping with the fire and corruption portfolio, but a cleric of only moderate level can control a small army of burning skeletons.
