Building a Rogue / Barbarian

Advice

Okay, this thread is sort of a continuation to a previous thread where I asked about a character idea I had, but I didn't focus enough on asking about the specific build, and nobody showed up to help.

So, how should I go about making a Rogue with a few levels of Urban Barbarian and possibly levels of Assassin? I could also go normal Barbarian and take the Coherent Rage trait (from the Faction Guide) but I think that wouldn't fit her thematically since the Barbarian class is only taken for the Rage ability (it fits the character since she's prone to going bat**** insane under certain circumstances) and not due to the "noble savage" stuff.

Of course, there's also the fact that she is VERY dangerously obsessed with one character (a fellow Player Character), and some people suggested some Teamwork Feats to show that, but yeah. Anyone got anything? Like what feats to take and what skills to focus on for making a particularly brutal but still relatively stealthy little sneak?

Urban Bararian 1/Rogue X:

1) Power attack
3) Gang Up, Weapon Focus (Luceren Hammer) as rogue trick
5) Furous Focus, Combat Reflexes (Rogue Trick)

Swing a Luceren hammer hard, and sneak attack when 2 allies get close. Take the human trait instead of skilled that gives you +1 AC when adjacent to 2 other PCs; the reach weapon helps her feel not as "squishy".

At 5 you should be (assume 18 Str, +2 item for 20, +1 hammer)... +11 to hit for 1d12+14. Sneak attack enabled adds +2d6 to that, and rage makes you +2 to hit, +3 damage. You have a solid AC when around allies, and 2 allies touching an opponent is enough to create flank. You can then toss some skill points into sneak and such; and if that ally is also sneaky the Sneaking teamwork feat makes sneaking MUCH more consistent (you both roll and take the higher roll). My other favorite is Lookout; also encourages setting up ambush (gives you guys full attack if you set up an ambush).

I imagined her wielding a shortsword or longsword (that looks like an oversized kitchen knife) but I guess a hammer is good too, if only to make enemies go splat in a nice way and because of what you just mentioned as well.

And, I am not sure about that whole AC bonus among allies, because she often either ignores or dislikes anyone who ISN'T the one she happens to obsess over. She'd probably only work with the party because her loved one is a member of the group (as in, friends with the others), but I think she can figure working with the whole group will help both her and her partner on the long run.

Dual wielding is a tough road; it does maximize sneak attack dice, but costs a lot of consistency and is flat worthless short-ranged. Also, it requires a lot of feat investments... It's not impossible, but pretty gimped.

As far as defense, defensiveness doesn't get much better than reach + combat reflexes.

You can think of it more as she knows how to push people around; but the "Gang Up" is Just a consistent way of getting sneak attack, it's not necessary by any means. Really the build I posted is good for any fight, and particularly good for haste / enlarge person buffs.

Who ever talked about dual wielding? Doesn't fit my image at all.

Rogue Barbarian...with spells!

Put ranks in Perform(Smash In Faces).

...doesn't really fit if you ask me.

She's a raging Rogue, not a warrior poet. XD

Try an Invulnerable Urban Barbarian/Ninja. Give it lots of Dex, Use a Tengu if allowed. Get yourself a pair of Agile Sawtooths. Your feats should include Weapon Finesse and Power Attack.

Another idea would be Mounted Fury/Scout. You'll be using a Large Furious Lance, and you'll be RAGECHARGESNEAKATTACKing your way into battle.

She's human, and I ain't changing that. And can Invulnerable and Urban be mixed like that?

...and are you just joking or what?

yes. archetypes can stack as long as they don't change the same class abilities.
no. I'm giving real advice.

Hi Icyshadow, I believe it could help if you could provide a link to the previous thread or copy that information here. For example you mention that your character is set as being a human, I assume that that was mentioned in the previous thread, because I didn't see that in this thread.

Some things that could help, method of ability score creation, starting level, and resorces availabe (books that you can use, if any 3rd party material is allowed) would help us give better advice to you.

With a urban barbarian, one option would be to use the feat Dervish Dance, which allows the character to use their dex for attack & Damage rolls, which is nice since urban barbarians can increase their dex while raging.

You wouldn't be able to take it at first level though, but if you took the first 2 levels as a rogue you could pick up weapon finesse at 1st level and then chose combat trick (Dervish Dance) as the second level rogue talent.

Having ranks in dance might not fit your character's image, I'll just have to leave that to your judgement. The feat is in the Campaign Setting: The Inner Sea World Guide is was thinking of including the feat in the post, but since it's copyrighted that might not be the best idea.

good luck in making your character.
