I am working on a idea but while doing research I found an item with the name I was going to use for mine. The item doesn't do what mine does.
I was wondering should I change the name of it or is it okay to use the name, will it deduct from my item?
I'd say try to differentiate your item as much as possible. I love Thesaurus.com for when I'm naming stuff.
I'd err on the side of caution and change it.
As for naming it, try and think of what the item does, or what theme it has and think of names based on that.
Or do what I did and tie the abilities to the name.

Is the existing item in a book of magic items? The answer is definately change it.
Is the existing item a real world item, or a recognizable pop culture item? The answer is definately change it.Is the existing item in the feedback threads here? The answer is probably change it. If it did not get picked the first time, it likely won't the second time.
Is the existing item a Top 32 item? The answer is change it, but pay special attention to what caught the judges eyes and keep that element of the name.

I'll third the motion. You want something unique that won't be confused with another item. Using a thesaurus is an excellent suggestion. You can find odd, interesting, or archaic synonyms that have a better ring to them than the standard run-of-the-mill vocabulary would.
Thanks everyone. I have used the thesaurus and that is how I got my name but I guess it wasn't as unique as I originally thought :(
I'm a big fan of "Noun of (the) (Adjective) Noun" or "Noun of Verbing" sorts of titles. The first noun usually indicates the kind of physical object it is, and then the rest either says what it does or gives it flavor in some way.
