Duelist and shadow dancer, best way to enter the PrC?

Advice

hi, im kinda planning a character in case i die in my campaign (currently lvl 9 ) i like the 2Prc i mentioned in the title but im in doubt regarding the base class
shadow dancer does not add dmg to a rogue, so i was thinking about ranger(maybe urban) or straight fighter
same with duelist, i was thinking on a rogue/fighter or straight rogue, any tips??

The Exchange

I find the Free-Hand-Fighter with a rapier going into the duelist rocks hard. The only problem is that you lose many good fighter class abilities, like the Armor Training. Shadowdancer is a great class for a rogue or a fighter, but your required skills will be quite low. Have you thought of barbarian? When you stop raging, slip into a shadow so you can recover from fatigue.

My duellist went Dervish Dance with a scimitar, 5 fighter 1 ranger (guide for instant enemy). This is the progression I'd use for human.
1 weapon finesse, piranha strike
2 dodge
3 weapon focus scimitar, mobility
5 weapon specialization scimitar, spring attack
7 Dervish Dance
9 improved critical

I went with straight fighter, as free-hand fighter didn't get weapon training, and duellist gloves give you 2 more steps in weapon training (so 2 more +hit and +damage), stacking nicely with a +dex item that does the same.

so assuming level 10, 18 starting dex (+2 from level), +4 dex item and duellist gloves, you're looking at 1d6 +7(dex)2(weapon spec)3(weap training + gloves)4(duellist precise strike), AB 10(base)7(dex)3(weap training +gloves)1(weapon focus)...

so +21 to attack, 1d6+16(15-20x2 crits), not counting magic weapons etc, instant enemy gives +2/+2 vs 1 enemy a day on top of that (nice for boss mobs). Note that the 4 damage from precise strike doesn't get multiplied on crits.

piranha strike (power attack) makes that +18 to hit, 1d6+22 for damage.

piranah strike only works with light weapons. you cant do it with a scimitar. you need to use power attack

whoops you're right there, you'd have to have enough str to get power attack. But even without it your base damage is pretty decent.

I think later I also took a level of barbarian for the extra movement, and the feat Fleet, for a 45 base movement, great for spring attacks.

Rogue 2/ Fighter 5 works well. With a good int., you get lots of class skills, and evasion is always nice. Straight fighter gives lots of feats and gives you the weapon training to take advantage of the gloves, like somebody already said, then bump up your dex with the best belt you can get.

Dervish dance is almost mandatory for the class, because of the dex damage. Get a good bow, too. You'll be a good shot even if you don't take any archery feats.

nice !!

what about the shadowdancer??
