Bastardhall next appearance in 4713. Any big plans for Bastardhall in 2013?

As the subject says. Golarion's years coincide roughly with real years, so are there any big plans for Bastardhall in 2013? Bastardhall sends out its black carriage every one hundred years, and last time was in 4613. Two more years and the accursed carriage will be leaving Bastardhall again.

I know Carrion Crown was already "the Ustalav/horror AP" but I really hope we get to see an AP for Bastardhall or a multi-part module arc in the module line, or something in 2013 for Bastardhall.

Please do something for Bastardhall in 2013. Adventure Path? Multi-module story arc, or a Campaign Setting book on the dungeon itself similar to Dungeons of Golarion but for Bastardhall?

I know I basically said the same thing twice.

I'm guessing asking about plans for 2013 is a bit premature, but think about it?

(I initially had this post in the Pathfinder Campaign Setting forum but I deleted that one and put it in the Products forum instead. I think it makes more sense here.)

I wondered that too. Maybe '13 is the year were the experimental AP is The Evil AP? That would be my preference, at any rate.

Maybe Bastardhall is a module that year. I kind of doubt they would go the I6 route, though. Skeletons of Scarwall really covers that ground well, right down to the awesome map.

I'd say an early tell will be how they handle the scheduled reappearance of Baba Yaga in 4712.

I vote for a couple of PFS scenarios.

I wouldn't mind something similar to the ruby phoenix tournament happening now - where a bunch of scenarios got around plotting a way to do something to it, and than a module to tie it together..

I would buy the hard copy and the PDF of Bastardhall if this were to happen. And buy copies for my friends. Just take all of my money.

Yeah, I want to see Bastardhall in print (on paper). Since the scenarios are PDF-only, I'd be disappointed if it only saw a scenario treatment.

Since Bastardhall is basically a mega-dungeon and I think Paizo are shying from a mega-dungeon AP, I'd rather see part of Bastardhall presented as a module. Then, if that module does well, they can have another part of it as a module. Treat it as an adventure site, rather than a mega-plot.

This sounds like a Pathfinder Module.

Well, Wes Schneider did mention some time ago that he'd finished a massive outline...

Sovereign Court Contributor

Well, from what I played at the last couple of PaizoCons it would have to be a pretty big adventure...

Dark Archive

Well, did they announce any 64 page module after Dragon's Demand?

Not yet.

Dark Archive

Than that would be a good guess. Unless the MMO needs further support ...

The next Module will be due in August (so Gencon), which makes me suspect that it will be a Mythic module to tie into the release then. Now might Bastardhall be a Mythic module? Possibly, but I'd actually guess not.

The module after that would be November though, which isn't far after Halloween...

So here's the secret. Bastardhall reappeared in 4609.

It was supposed to reappear in 4613. But it did early.

That's the plot of my yearly Bastardhall Paizocon game, which I've been running at the convention for 4 consecutive years now (and will run the 5th session of at this year's convention).

Year 1 - 2009 (4609 A.R.), The Blood of Bastardhall: The black coach rolled into the town of Cesca in the Ustalavic county of Varno and demanded that several particular residents climb aboard. The PCs were not able to prevent all the townsfolk from being captured, but with the aid of the young fortuneteller, Miamara Vitters, and the ghost of her father, they were able to discover the townsfolk's connection and prevent more abductions.

Year 2 - 2010 (4609 A.R.), Beyond the Gates of Bastardhall: The heroes journeyed to the ruined town of Maiserene on the banks of Lake Laruba, once the town that supported and owed fealty to the Arudora noble family and served as the coastal passage to Castle Arudora. Encountering several haunts suggesting details of the town's history, ruin, a mysterious traveler, and something terrible lurking within the lake's black depths, the heroes manged to rekindle the light atop the chapel of Aroden and restore a ghostly version of the ruined bridge crossing the lake to Castle Arudora, now known as Bastardhall.

Year 3 - 2011 (4609 A.R.), Within the Walls of Bastardhall: The heroes made their way across the bridge to Bastardhall, exploring the castle's gatehouse, a series of monuments mid-span, and other fortifications still manned by remnants of their ancient keepers and a gigantic centipede. (Note: The PCs did NOT actually get within the walls of Bastardhall.)

Year 4 - 2012 (4609 A.R.), The Black Gardens of Bastardhall: The heroes finally make it within the walls of Bastardhall, entering the island's vast tiered gardens. A plague of mosquitos and a horrible piping harried them to the greenhouse, then through the lower gardens. In a shrine of Shelyn they encountered a despondent, faithless huecuva who suggested much regarding the Arudora's family's fall and the coming of a dark rider bearing a squirming bundle. Trying to avoid the garden's other dangers by traveling upon the walls, they faced a grotesque satyr piper playing upon the proboscis of a gigantic mosquito, then faced his gigantic, bloodsucking pets. The heroes finally managed to make it to the outer walls of the castle proper... and knocked.

Year 5 - 2013 (4609 A.R.), ___________: To be continued.

Okay Wes, so its nice that you have a pet game in your pet nation, wanta back this up with facts? Sure!

Pathfinder Adventure Path #48, Page 61, Blood of Bastardhall: Once every 100 years the a spectral bridge leading to Castle Arudora appears and a coach driven by a headless rider storms across, scouring the countryside and claiming victims with mysterious deliberateness. Yet this century, the bridge to the ruin known as Bastardhall has appeared early, not long after a mysterious figure calling himself Caydserris Arudora passed through Cesca headed for the castle. Who is the mysterious new master of Bastardhall? What has changed the balance of power within its haunted halls? And what lies imprisoned within its catacombs that even angels would kill to keep secure?

If you want more material on Bastardhall, page 54 of Rule of Fear includes more on the Arudora family, while page 58 includes an overview of Bastardhall itself, along with a side view map of the island. Page 42 and 43 of that book also present the town of Cesca, along with a plot called "Witch's Hunt" that talks more about Miamara Vitters (a poster map of this town also appears in the Carrion Crown Poster map Folio). Page 6 of Inner Sea Magic also includes Caydserras Arudora among the list of the Inner Sea Region's most potent spellcasters.

The most important details, though, are in the three black moleskin notebooks I've carried since I started running this adventure. The first and most tattered includes a vertical view of Bastardhall and its various dungeons, crypts, and caves; the map of Cesca; my notes for incorporating the Harrow into character creation; the first adventure; and my overarching notes for the campaign. The second includes the map of Maiserene and Bastardhall's gatehouses, along with the second and third adventures. The third includes a top down view of all of Arudora island and the fourth adventure.

The fifth adventure hasn't been written yet, but debuts at Paizocon 2013 and will feature the heroes setting foot in the courtyards of Castle Arudora. (It will also mean my notes for this adventure creep into a fourth moleskin.)

As for publishing the adventure, well, I'd have to finish creating it first, wouldn't I? At this point, characters are around level 6, so I'm about a third of the way through. ;)

But the most important mystery is:

What relationship does the castle bear to the terrifying figure after whom it is named?

Even my players high level heroes avoid this place like the mists of ravenloft used to be...

Hmmm...now I have a new toy to replace ravenloft in their nightmares!

An update of what's come before and what's yet to come for Bastardhall.

The heroes finally managed to make it to the outer walls of the castle proper... and knocked.

Year 5 - 2013 (4609 A.R.), The Bleak Bastion of Bastardhall: The heroes slip past the outer curtain wall of the castle Bastardhall. Within, they find an immortal creature snared and tormented within the citadel's repeating cycle of resurrection and destruction. Is death truly a mercy to an immortal? Beyond, the quarters of the castle's staff and several once idyllic overlooks of the grounds below suffer the same corruption as the gardens, with many of the Arudora servants lingering on in various states of terrible half-life. The servants' chapel of Shelyn still stands, the resident priests having given their lives to imprison terrible twins. Twins, with an undying hunger for souls.

Year 6 - 2014 (4609 A.R.), The Silent Servant of Bastardhall: To be continued at Paizocon 2014.

My dream right now is that one day Bastardhall will get its own hardback treatment like Emerald Spire, except F. Wesley Schneider has to write all of it. (Well, other contributors can work on the bestiary section, maybe.)

Any news on Bastardhall?

5 people marked this as a favorite.

well...Wes Schneider is no longer with Paizo. I mean he might still be interested in helping out with that product, but it seems like him being gone decreases the chance we'll see a dedicated hardcover on Bastardhall by a substantial amount.
