Vordakai and the WWW

Kingmaker

My group is running Kingmaker VERY slowly. We play online from different parts of the country using MapTools (awesome program).
Currently, my group is exploring the abandoned town of Varnhold.

They discovered an entry in the wizard's journal (at the Inn) describing an ancient being called Vordakai. The Cleric in our group immediately asked me how to spell it, so I told him. The Bard took a 20 (KS History 17) to learn more about the name, but I told her that it was a name unknown to her (DC 40).

That's when the Cleric interupted, saying, "Vordakai is an ancient and powerful wizard cyclops... lives near some place called Casmaron."

I was too shocked to reply, but the other players immediately asked, "How do you know that?"

The Cleric answered, "I just Googled it."

Why bring a Bard when you have Google.

So, do you use Obsidian Portal or any other online information for your PCs?

Cause what's good for the Good Guys is good for the Bad Guys... ;)

"Toadie!"
"Yes, Your Majesty?"
"I just Googled those upstarts building that kingdom to the East. Seems they have a Wizard amongst them with a staff of fireballs, a Cleric of Pharasma, a rogue who wields a magic shortsword, and that king of there's is actually a Paladin of Erastil! Also, seems the wizard just got a new Imp familiar, and that holier-than-thou king is big on Leadership--just got some stupid fighter cohort. So, here's what we're gonna do..."

That’s the difference between player knowledge and character knowledge, sure they can know whats going on but there characters don't, kind of like cut scenes in a video game showing what the BBGs doing just so you get the story.

Also if it’s an issue I’d just tell him to knock it off and if it seems like he is "seeing the future" with his character just change things a bit so his plans don't work.

There should be a divination spell that allows you to google one term per level, and use the first result you get as your divine answer. But what spell level would that be?

I hope your answer was something along the lines of "**** you, you are such a *** * *** *** ****" and then told him to go play a MMORPG with walkthrough stapled to his forehead?

Seriously, someone in my party once googled the answer to a riddle her character was supposed to figure out in-game... I told her this is not how we do it, and to go play Neverwinter Nights then.

She was shocked, but the rest of the party agreed it was the right line to make her see the error of her ways...
Also, but unrelated, she died that session due to being a lawful stupid paladin, and 2 crits...

Well, if the players can make use of Google, why not even the odds a big? If the players have Google, give the Vordy a googol. HP that is.

For those who don't know, a googol is a one with a hundred zeros (or, if you want a more mathematical description, 10^100). Or, if you want an excuse to use the suffix -plex, it's 100plex.

If they complain about an enemy that is basically immune to all instant death spells and can survive a galaxy falling on him, tell them it could be worse. It could have been a googolplex HP.

:D

Huh. I wonder why I lived in erroneous belief that it is written gogol instead of googol?

Googling such information without explicit permission from GM is sin equal to reading the adventure book before playing and should have it's consequence. Grave.

Aaaahhh... the googolplex, such memories, as an aside regarding that term, mixed with an rpg campaign and a movie.

Spoiler:

Oh geez, that term reminded me of back in HS, the GM was running a starwars D6 game and he had to just bring in the whole terminator stuff... T2 had came out back then, yes, we were young, he was impressionable. So we not only had Ah-nold on our side, but T-1000 as well since our foe was... the T-One Googolplex! I really, really wish I was making this up. *sigh*

Wow, Good thing it was an online game. I know I wouldn't of been able to resist punching that player in the face...
