So is anyone else keeping up on the new season?

The latest episode ("Tanks for the Memories") might be my favorite from the season so far.

Yup, Tanks for the Memories is definitely up there. Right now, I'm considering it the redemption of the Vampire Bats episode.

Things I took away from this episode:

Before, I considered AJ's and RD's elements of harmony to be forced. AJ is the reliable one and RD is the one who lacks a brain-to-mouth filter.

This episode, on the other hand, marks the first time I saw Rainbow act in a loyal fashion without it seeming like ham-fisted attempt to justify their having assigned her the element of loyalty way back when. She went into the Weather Factory to stop winter for the sake of her friend Tank and for the first time, I thought "Yep, totally the Element of Loyalty."

Second, Spike confirms that dragons are not reptiles. Ergo, "dragonboobs" are totally a thing; MLP said so :D.

Funny I liked the Bats episode but thought this one was lacking.

Well, I think I have a new episode to add to my favorites. "Amending Fences" took a character and event mentioned in the pilot and built a very nice story out of it. (So many callbacks to the pilot.) It was a fantastic episode for Twilight, one she desperately needed. (But poor Moon Dancer... Twilight got a real lesson in how sometimes what seems like nothing to you might mean the world to someone else.) It's easily one of the season's best episodes.

(Somebody very interesting was also spotted lurking in the background.)

Interesting we saw a second broken friendship mended this season. (The first being Dash and Gilda.) Wonder if we'll see more? Broken friendships mended, current ones tested, and new ones made... Seems like an interesting theme going on.

I really dug the Bats one and still don't see what all the fuss was about.

YAKS DESTROY

Yesterdays episode was great, I also really like the griffon kingdom one, the discord one(of course), The Yaks one, the 100th episode, and Castle sweet castle.

So far this season has been getting top marks, at this point there has only been one episode that I really didn't care for. That being Appleoosa's Most Wanted. That one just felt a little forced to me.

Pinkie Pie becomes the second Earth Pony to fly under her own power (the first being Apple Bloom with a Loop-de-Hoop) and the first to do it legitimately (since Apple Bloom had the Cutie Pox at the time).

And with only one tail (take that, Miles Prower)!

Season 6will start later this year!

I'm strongly beginning to suspect season 5 only started as late as it did because of the Hub dying. If it hadn't gone down, I think s5 would have started a lot sooner. I bet s5 has been totally finished for quite a while.

Also, DVD/Bluray release date for Friendship Games - October 13

I hope they will show a season 6 preview at Comic Con this weekend.

My prediction for the panel would be a trailer for the second half of season 5, a snippet from the next EG movie and probably animatics from season 6. And they may reveal what the " Guardians of Harmony" trademark is for.

I'm thinking "Guardians of Harmony" is likely tied to the 2017 movie, possibly the subtitle or the toyline for it.

Second trailer for Friendship Games from SDCC with new footage, no sound. Hoping they upload that to Hasbro's Youtube after the con so we can hear the audio and see it clearly.

I'm betting that scene with hoodie-wearing Twilight and Sunset is probably the opening scene for the movie. Also, EqG!Cadance! Wonder if we'll see EqG!Shining Armor?

Friendship Games Speculation:
The cover art for the DVD/Bluray shows what is pretty clearly Sunset and EqG!Twilight front and center. Plus the two trailers, I think it's safe to say Princess Twilight isn't going to be a major player this time. She may cameo with some advice via the book, but she's not crossing over. I suspect Sunset will find herself having to step up to lead.
Plus, I'm really feeling sorry for EqG!Twilight. She looks like she's had a far harder road than her counterpart. Princess Twilight was mostly a loner by choice, this Twilight doesn't seem to have had one. She seems to not only be lonely, but bullied. I'm also suspicious of that amulet... I think someone gave it to her to manipulate her into doing something bad. I think now, her transformation into Midnight Sparkle is going to be an accident.

Maybe the amulet she has was given to her by this world's Discord or she created it by accident or on purpose without knowing how dangerous it is.

Also has anyone looked at the older looking principle from that crystal prep school. Does anyone know who she is, because I can't place her...yet.

Bad New: They are splitting season 5 up and there will not be a season 6 this year.

Yeah, whoever was manning the Twitter apparently screwed up. *sighs* I suspect this weekend's episode will be the last until fall. At least I still have Friendship Games to look forward to.

Season 5 poster. Some interesting things on there... like the CMC are in front but obscured. I suspect only one reason why they would hide the CMC... if it would give away a particular major development. If so, it's about time the trio had that plot resolved.

Also, Shining and Cadance are next to a cake with some interesting decorations.

I hope the CMC do get there cutie marks this season....it's long overdo.

I have heard the rumors about Cadence and Shining Armor.

The amusing part of the bit with Shining armor and Cadence is the expressions on their faces. Shining is ecstatic, while Cadence looks very worried.

As for the CMC...yeah, it's about time.

Rumors? What did I miss?

That on top of the cake is a baby carriage, which possibly means a royal baby? (I will be very amused if they call her Skyla to call back to that mystery baby alicorn toy that came out a couple of years ago. I still believe that toy was in fact meant to be Cadance, it was just based on an earlier version where her name and design weren't finalized.)

"Science of Magic" the first Friendship Games short just went up on the MLP facebook. Every Saturday until the Friendship Games premiere will see a new short.

Science of Magic:
The whole short is cute and funny... But the bit where AJ eats one of the magically conjured apples that dropped on Sunset just kills me.

This one proves Twilight and Sunset have a lot in common...

Friendship Games speculation:
I bet that's going to be key in pulling alt!Twilight back from the dark side after she goes Midnight Sparkle.
I really hope they don't have this movie end with the magic being taken away... I want the Canterlot High girls to remain magical girls, plus I don't want the EqG 'verse to end so soon.

I really enjoyed the second movie and can't for this one.

I was honestly thinking s5 wouldn't start back up until October, after Friendship Games aired. Nope, we get it going again September 12. (Plus, I think we can now say that leaked episode list was true. This confirms Episode 14 is "Canterlot Boutique".)

I am glad it is coming back so soon but I wish it was more interesting sounding episode.

September is going to be an interesting month for the show. Three episodes with heavy Rarity focus. "Canterlot Boutique," (linked above) "Rarity Investigates," and "Made in Manehatten." Which is an AJ/Rarity map episode. (Someone pointed out that this likely means Twilight will get her map episode with Fluttershy.)

Interesting note, this means we get a new episode of FiM on Sep 26th in the morning and Friendship Games that evening.

Friendship Games speculation:
Which is why I'm thinking Princess Twilight is definitely not involved in any major fashion with Friendship Games. At most, she'll send a note to Sunset. Sunset is certainly going to be the lead protagonist for this movie. Interesting mirror of the first one, with Sunset as the lead hero and alt!Twilight as the antagonist. (Though I don't think alt!Twilight evil. She may go kinda crazy when the magic surges, but it's been shown that magic doesn't mix well with dark emotions. And this Twilight looks to have been friendless with no confidence in herself.)

Friendship Games short #5 - "A Banner Day"

Yesterday also saw Discovery Family air a special that combined the first four shorts with a ten minute sneak peek of Friendship Games.

Friendship Games:
Luna hammering in that Sunset needs to keep the magic under wraps is interesting. Too bad we already know that's not going to happen.

Nice to see that Rainbow is still into music and not conveniently forgotten now that Rainbow Rocks is over. Seems they all still play together, since they mention music is still triggering their transformations.

Plus, that girl with Rainbow during the pep rally song sure looks like Sour Sweet. Wonder if they're sisters?

I'd actually rather they didn't put out things like that "sneak peek". The shorts are great, but having 1/7 of the film shown dosent whet my appetite for it, it just annoys me that I can't see the whole thing

I am fine with the 10 minute sneak peak though I wish it focused on that world's Twilight and how different her life really is to the pony version.

Not a fan of sneak peeks.

Trailer for the second half of Season 5 just released. Some neat little bits in there.

Trailer speculation:
The way the announcer said friendship never fades, but some things change with an immediate cut to the CMC? I think we are definitely going to have three very happy fillies at season's end. Who are probably going to convert over to helping other foals once their quest is over, considering the thread that's been running through their episodes this season. Yeah, it'll be a little sad to see it come to an end... but it means they get to move on to part 2 of their story.

Alt-Twilight using a PKE meter? My inner Ghostbusters fan approves.

I wonder if FG will give us a look at what happened to the Dazzlings after they left the stage last movie. I approve of Dash still playing the guitar and not treating that as only relevant for the movie that featured it, and I hope the Dazzlings get the same treatment.

Well, this morning's episode was fun. Totally did not see the ending coming, though.

Canterlot Boutique:
I was expecting a different ending, with Rarity closing the Canterlot location and resolving to make her Ponyville location famous. Instead, she gets to keep both and reveals she never planned to give up living in Ponyville. (Apparently, her desire to live in Canterlot already went away.) I also like that it turned out Sassy wasn't really a bad pony, just desperate and trying too hard.
Also.... those Luna and Celestia themed dresses were gorgeous.

Brotherhooves Social:
This one actually surprised me. Big Mac/Apple Bloom focus? That promises to be fun. I'm also gonna toss out a guess that Fluttershy and her brother will come into play here. And everyone thought it would involve Twilight and Shining or AJ and Big Mac with Fluttershy and her brother. No one even thought it might involve Apple Bloom and Big Mac. Which actually makes me think that Fluttershy's brother is the younger one. Fluttershy just totally strikes me as likely to be an older sister, not a younger one.

Crusaders of the Lost Mark:
No real surprise it's a CMC episode, since Crusaders is in the title. However, it is news that we're going to see Pipsqueak run for class president with the help of the CMC.

The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows:
Pinkie learns a secret about Shining and Cadance? Yeeaah, I think we can now officially say the cake that Cadance and Shining were looking nervous around on the S5 poster is a baby shower cake. Royal baby incoming! (Next season.) I've realized... I totally want their foal to be a pegasus. Just to buck the trend that the royals all seem to be unicorns/alicorns. Wouldn't even be hard to justify, considering Cadance was originally a pegasus before she ascended.

Applejack is excited to celebrate Hearthswarming Eve with Pinkie Pie's family but soon discovers that the Pie family have very different ways of enjoying the holidays at the rock farm.

I get the feeling we're about to learn the whole Pie family is just as eccentric as Pinkie. I mean, the rock farm should have been a clue about her parents, then Maud. I just think Pinkie is the extroverted one, and the rest of them are more reserved. Looking forward to seeing what Marble and Limestone are like.

What do you want to bet that "Scare Master" Airs on Oct 31st. If not I'll eat my hat.
